Siskel & Ebert - Crooklyn

Along with BlacKkKlansman, Do the Right Thing, and Malcolm X, Crooklyn is another great movie by Spike Lee. Crooklyn depicts family life in Brooklyn, New York in the early 1970s. Both Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert gave the film a thumbs up review.

It astonishes me that even though Spike Lee is still going strong as a director, few people have seen or even talk about this film as much.

Are you kidding? Crooklyn is a CLASSIC that's discussed & quoted on all forms of social media at least once a year. You can probably thank BET as Crooklyn is one of those movies (like Baby Boy & the Madea films) that have been heavily rotated on basic cable in the last decade or so.

This film is clearly a home movie and a peak into Lee's life. But there was no plot. No plot = no movie. But it if you want to analyze Spike Lee this film along with School Daze and Red Hook Summer tell you much about Spike. I didn't see Red Hook Summer but I understand that a young boy was molested. What does that tell you about Spike?
