Personally after seeing the film I couldn't have imagined any other actor playing the role of Lestat like Cruise did. It's actually quite a challenging one yet he defied all expectations by giving one outstanding effort. All credit to Pitt as well I thought he was satisfactory compared with the likes of Cruise. Dunst was also mindblowing as Claudia. I must stress the fine casting choices they made. Cruise is a fantastic actor despite what the media says

It seems like everyone's forgotten that Armand was turned when he was 14! All these actors suggested as well as Antonio Banderas were far too old and didn't capture the essence of Armand, a child devil and immortal. Regardless of that small blip this was an awesome movie.

Interview not only excels in terms of astounding performances from Tom Cruise as Lestat, atmospheric visuals and fascinating subject matter but also in the substance that lies beneath. For instance it not only encompasses vampire mythology but also philosophy if you study what's going on e.g. the destructive yet romantic relationship between Louis and Lestat

Yes I agree.But that was mostly because Bram Stokers Dracula film had to add in a romance that wasnt in the book about the girl being the reincarnated lover of Dracula.In the book he goes after her simply because hes evil and wants to make the heroes suffer if I remember correct..But in the film they had to add an un needed romance to beef up the story and make it more interesting for standard viewers who would get bored at a monster movie just about a killer Vampire.

@tw19771

Anybody who thinks Interview With The Vampire is better than Bram Stoker's Dracula must be a troll. Or blind, but considering where society is these days blind is probably more accurate. I mean sure Interview is probably closer to to its book in comparison to Dracula and it doesn't have the homoerotic parts between Pitt and Cruise like Interview does, which probably turns on a lot of women and gay men. But what Dracula does have going for it are the aces up its sleeve which makes it a better film. 1) Its the better story, period. 2) There is no CGI, zippo as per Coppola's demands and filmed in a more old fashioned way. 3) The cinematography is just plain better, many of the scenes in Interview are just plain jarring with how they are filmed, Dracula's just flows. I mean sure, Dracula does have the eternal love thing between Dracula and Mina added that the book didn't, and seems poised to make Dracula less creepy. But Gary Oldman and Coppola did such a good job with Dracula that the monstrosity parts were retained and even added to it. I could have lived without the eternal love bits between Mina and Dracula, but I guess they felt Dracula's motivation to be obsessed with Mina be addressed after traveling across Europe, to target the girl. Here is the sad fact about Interview, if Cruise and Pitt made a gay porn film, everyone would forget about interview and start praising that. Interview though is alright, mostly because Tom Cruise saved the film from being a complete mess. The part where he comes back after Claudia tries to murder him is my favorite part of the film. And Pitt complained Louis is flat in the movie, I agree with him, the character is a bore fest when he isn't attacking poodles that are barking his head off.

Tom was perfect as Lestat and Brad was perfect as Louis. . Looking back at them, it’s interesting to watch. I've read it 3 times, & it made me a committed fan of Rice's Vampire Chronicles books. I admit it's not for everyone, but it's well-written, with lush detail & sensuality. About1 1/2 years ago I read the first 2 Twilight books just to see what the big deal was, & I was not impressed. Still, people are entitled to their opinions & to like what they do.

Happy to see S&E's review of this! I remember when it came out, and all the controversy. This is the film that made stars of both Dunst and Pitt. Nor did it have "the vampire chronicles" don't know what's going on or how it happened but reality (and I know this sounds crazy) seems to be shifting between our universe and other parallel universes. @xcb15, so at least consider reading Interview With the Vampire, or if you don't want to start with it, try the next book in the series, The Vampire Lestat, or the book following that in the series, The Queen of the Damned. As I said, this world is full of differences, and even though I don't understand why many books & movies are wildly popular, it's guaranteed that some people will like what I/you don't, and there is no reason to attack them or their preferences Ü . I dont know whats the matter with all those people that don't like tom cruise , cmon guys he was perfect on this movie , my only complain on this movie was that they should've cast Daniel Day Lewis as Armand but thats just me

***** Banderas was good cast but he wasn't at the same level of the others maybe because of the way the character was written , I thought that Daniel D Lewis would've made that character much more interesting, but maybe Banderas was more closed to the Armand of the book I never read the book so I cannot tell

More sequels? unfortunately, not a good one (i.e. Queen of the damned). I wish they'd make "The Tale of the Body Thief" with the original actors of Interview with the Vampire.

I remember watching Tom Cruise on Oprah when the movie came out and he shut her down for a second because she was saying ignorant stuff about the subject matter and why movies like it shouldn't be made or words to that effect.

Hee hee hee hee hee-They liked it!!! They liked it for their own different reasons, but they liked it! It was somewhat bloody, and that's a given, but that's what Vampires are all about, and that's what they do-Drink blood from us "Mere Mortals"...or, at least, that's what they would do, if there were such things as Vampires!

+Carsey Jones Armand was around 16 when he was turned, not 14, and people didn't "forget". River Phoenix was supposed to play Armand, but died and they had to cast Antonio.

Correction. River Phoenix was to play the interviewer, Christian Slater's part. Slater donated his salary from the movie to a foundation in River Pheonix's name.

Why don't they just change the title to -A- instead of -THE- ... "Interview With -A- Vampire" just sounds so much more dark and mysterious with a sense of menacing suspense and foreboding, it conjures up such an special atmosphere about it because you can picture a reporter sitting in front of an unknown silhouetted mysterious figure shrouded in darkness asking questions .... .... .. BUT with Interview With -THE- Vampire, it sounds a lot less mysterious, more cheesy in a way. "THE" implies that the vampire being interviewed is a known (or well known) entity. "THE" is a word of reference to something of a definite known quality.
