wildcats is fun, its surprising that the same actor,bruce mcgill, who plays jack dalton on macgyver with richard dean anderson,would pull off a role as a athletic director, but you can tell that theres shades of his jack dalton character as hes delivering his performance

Clan of the Cave Bear failed because it abandoned the book. There was no way that it could work since the girl in the book is only like 12 and in the film she is more like 23 or 24. The stuff that happens to her (the rape) works in the book because it comes at almost the moment her period starts and the tension (and reason for the Rape) builds up over the course of the book. Also, since the Neanderthal don't have the moral burdens we carry today the story works better in a book where the reader's imagination lets the scene play out without wondering how what is going on in a film is effecting the mental health of the actress. Further, in the book Ayla was not a Super Heroine as she is portrayed to be in this film. She is just alot smarter than the Neanderthal and so in the book (not the film) the things she does--learning to use a sling, even though she knows that if she is caught it will be a death sentence, learning to become a medicine woman for the clan.--makes sense. I think that the film they SHOULD have made was Valley of Horses. In that film Hannah would have been better cast (Ayla has aged up by the start of the 2nd book) and since she is a pretty good actress she would have been able to carry the parts of the film that are basically a 1 woman show. There are lots of action scenes in Valley of Horses and some scenes of real wonder (her discovering that she can make fire by using stones instead of waiting for a lighting strike is one of those. What the film cutting between Ayla and the two brothers (who also have adventures) would have made a great film.

I'm not completely sure what it was looking back, but Clan of the Cave Bear didn't really grow on me. Maybe it was what Siskel and Ebert said about the two extremes (too much shock value and too sentimental), but it just wasn't a good watch, especially compared to Quest for Fire and One Million Years B.C.
