@YT102008 And, though they ARE volunteers, keep in mind that they are pretty much the best in the Salt Lake area. I've known men and women that have been offered a chance to sing with them and have moved to Salt Lake to accept the honor. And they are indeed amazing for it. Sissel just adds to it, bringing it to a whole new level of 'wow'.

I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. Today (Jan. 2, Christmas 2), I filled in at a local Lutheran Church and played this as the opening hymn. However, it was to the tune, REGENT SQUARE, composed by Henry T. Smart, 1813-1879. And the refrain is "Come and worship, come and worship, Worship Christ, the newborn king." It is #275 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship.

In the United States, the hymn is today most commonly sung to the tune of "Regent Square" by Henry Smart.[1] In the United Kingdom, however, the hymn came to be sung to the French carol tune "Iris"[2] (Les anges dans nos campagnes, the tune used for "Angels We Have Heard on High") after this setting was published in the Oxford Book of Carols[1], except that the "Gloria in excelsis Deo" refrain is sung in place of Montgomery's original "Come and worship Christ the new-born King' refrain.

thank you...I grew up hearing better than this...& not thousands upon thousands were spent on set, costuming, & much more. Someone please tell me why they do not help their own...& many members leave & many die needlessly...lifelong acquaintances & relatives. I wish I didn't feel this way...but she managed to ruin 2 of my favorite songs. She did look the greatest I have ever seen her look (except in her youth) in one performance..but my goodness who wouldn't with all that so many do for her. Even blurring wrinkles in close ups except long lines on side of face. ( I saw her on a talk show on internet...soooo unfair to both men & women alike...not to mention insulting our intelligence.)

I have this on an SACD, but it's not this particular performance. What I like about the one that I have is that the prime vocalist (like in this case) does NOT overpower the choir. Most of the performances on here have that problem. This one is far more harmonious between the main vocals and the rest. Which is good.

There are two separate carols to the same tune. This carol is Angels From the Realms of Glory whilst the other one is Angels We Have Heard on High. This however is a beautiful rendition of Angels From the Realms of Glory. Before castigating someone for 'an error' it would be wise before jumping to conclusions.

@John1Chr Why don't you listen to the MUSIC being sung? While the words may have some similarity to the original Angels From the Realms of Glory, it is not it. They are singing the lyrics of "Angels From the Realms of Glory" to the tune of "Angels We Have Heard On High". That is why @edgehringer is calling the publisher of the video out on the title being wrong. Also, the "Gloria in Excelsis Deo" was NOT part of the original "Angels From the Realms of Glory" song. The original lyrics were "Come

Wow. Do you ever leave your house, look out your window? Or do you just assume your small world is all there is? Hymns are texts (i.e. poems). Hymn tunes are the melodies to which hymns can be set. Almost every hymn you can find has multiple tunes; and almost every tune has multiple texts to which it has been paried. This tune has the enviable distinction of have both great "Angel" hymns paired with it in different church traditions.
@nula0712 жыл бұрын
Perhaps the correct title of "Angels We Have Heard on High". is from an old tune, learned in youth. Look stuff up. Music sung to an English tune, how much attendance do you require?
@ceretomer598712 жыл бұрын
With all due respect to the choir, as good as they were, I wanted to hear more of Sissel's singing. She kind of got drowned out. Yes, I know people will argue that this song requires a strong choir but I would have like to heard Sissel by herself just a little bit.

Wow.... you're hostile for no reason. "Angels, From the Realms Glory" is a text. The tune to which it is set is of little consequence, as every tune has its own name as well. Listen to the text and you will hear it is, in fact, 'Angels From the Realms...." "Angels We Have Heard..." is an entirely different text. Perhaps you're used to hearing it set to the tune "Regent Square" (a tune also used for the hymn "Lo, He Comes With Clouds Descending."

Dillon Chavez Both of you are correct. The hymn is sung to two tunes. In the US we tend to hear a piece titled Regent Square used. In Great Britain they tend to use the French carol which is also used for "Angels We Have Heard on High" I like both. In fact I've heard both so many times it's hard for me to tell them apart. This has the "In Excelsis Deo: refrain substituted for Montgomery's original ... another twist.
