Such a delight to be accompanied in this tour by the head gardener of the place. Imagine (selfishly) walking alone, no matter the season, with him and listening to his love and care for the garden, taking time to appreciate the plantation, walls, building, open perspectives etc

Sissinghurst is living proof of what money can do! They had the money to create this, long, long before the National Trust got involved. What a joy it must have been to live here. I have always called it an English cottage garden on a grand scale.

Getting your rose stems horizontal is the best way to get more blooms. It’s one of the iconic English gardens and still looks incredible.

Thank you, a lovely little tour and some history of the garden. I visited Sissinghurst in June this year and hoping to go back in 2025 💚 While there I bought the book to read over Winter time “Vita and Harold” (edited by Nigel Nicolson) and thoroughly enjoying reading the letters between Vita and Harold.

I my garden, sadly I live in the Caribbean so roses grow just a couple of buds here, but here, I have noticed that roses I buy from stores don’t attract much bugs, and roses I have gotten from gardens and other things, not very big or attractive are the ones who attracted most bugs. I personally enjoy a lot the bugs, specially the big ones. Is funny looking at their buts wiggle outside the rose. Ive heard the less lab made a rose is, the more bugs attract. Is that true? This is why I am interested in heirloom old roses.

What is Troy Scott Smith’s accent? It sounds like a 17th century puritan accent. Is that just what people from Kent sound like?
