As someone suffering invisible illness and disability, I've struggled with how all fashion, but especially lolita, can be adapted. I already have so many other challenges when it comes to wearing lolita (I'm quite tall at 5'10", and I have an extreme hourglass shape, so finding dresses/coords that look flattering has been difficult to begin with), trying to take my health into account was something that just piled on. I haven't actually worn the fashion actively in a couple of years, because of how hard it has felt to overcome. Add to these that I have had weight struggles off and on (often aggravated by medications for the aforementioned health problems), making fit even more challenging, and I've been close to giving up... But the fashion has meant so much to me for so frakking long (not to mention the financial investment already made), I don't want to walk away. Sorry for the long comment, this is just a subject that hits close.

All I can think of suggesting is Learn how to sew and make clothes. Tailor the Lolita to your body. Its what I plan to do since I cannot afford buying it myself. Aaand I also have an extreme hourglass shape, so I feel your pain. Start with easy patterns, and slowly build up. I wish you luck!
@mermaliade66315 жыл бұрын
I sew a lot of mine and use brand accessories and patterns to augment. I also have a physical disability. I use prosthetic legs to get around. The shoe problem is a hard one for me. I can't really do some of the traditional shoes because they interfere with balance or the ability for my foot to make a full so a lot of my shoes have a similar style, but are not quite right. But the rest of the stuff is fairly adaptable. I think it would be kind of cute to incorporate Mobility devices! You could have a cane or a wheelchair that has a bit of Lolita Flair! I think that as long as you follow a lot of the guidelines of what constitutes the fashion, you'll be okay. I've had a few salty people here and there tell me that if I couldn't adhere to the guidelines disability or not that I didn't belong here, and as somebody that's been here a while now after, they're full of crap. This community has a lot of great people in it and they don't always fit into the Trope of what a perfect Lolita is. Frankly we need more people with different body types in this community anyway oh, and disabilities. It makes our community a lot stronger!
@Trynsa5 жыл бұрын
Thankfully, I know how to sew. I used to design and create costumes, and it was a passion. The wall I run up against there is my health. Spending time cutting materials, pinning, bent over the machine, all had unique challenges. I have EDS, and arthritis, hopefully my time in physical therapy makes all of that an option again, but for now I've just been kind of stagnant. I'd really like to make my own things again, though! Making lolita has always seemed a little intimidating (I really do enjoy the more complex styles), but I do like challenges! And I like the idea of, if I do have to use mobility aids in the future, frilling them up. :) I hope it doesn't come across like I'm dismissing the recommendations. They are actually very good ones, and I'm going to find ways to implement what might work for me, from what people suggest. The support of this community as a whole has been amazing! Genuinely, thank you for the kind words and advice.

What I have learned from my tenure in fashion school is the fact that people lump everything that isn't wearing the socially "accepted" gender clothing as trans. And people are generally wrong. From my straight cis male fashion designer understanding here is a basic chart. Transvestite/sissy falls under kink/fetish. Drag queen falls under performance art Transtrending tends to be trauma based. Trans is wrong hardware installed at factory. May be at any point in the repair process doesn't change the fact of wrong initial install and waiting for repairs doesn't eliminate the original error. And trans may be gay or straight although this is based upon the correct hardware's definition not the original setup's. (For some reason the concept of a ftm liking men confuses people. Mtf liking women confuses people. This doesn't mean they should be happy with the wrong parts and deal with the precived ease of acquiring the correct partner) But over all, what is so hard about not sexualizing Lolita. It is a clothing style and a fun lifestyle. There is plenty of porn featuring "maids" but it does not mean every maid is being "slutty". Plenty of "police officer" strippers but you try sticking a dollar in an officers boxers. Aaarg humans why we so dumb in large groups. On the first part of the video you reminded me why I want to take a shoe making course. Corrective footwear should also come in cute firly colors.

Hearing the community support a disabled woman warms my heart. My weak as fuck ankles combined with my disability-related balancing issues prevent me from wearing a lot of the cute shoes I see with lolita coords. Also, the fact I'll need a cane by the time I'm 30. There should also totally be lolita canes, they could be very nice accessories even for the able-bodied and fit fine with the time period and location the fashion is loosely based on

And that comment about it being “TERFY” to suggest we are NOT sissies, just WOW! Honestly I’ve lost count of the amount of times “TERFS” (gender criticals as they like to be called) have said that trans women are just men with a fetish. I had posted my opinion on one of Lor’s videos before, but I’d like to post it here as well. I’ve been interested in Lolita fashion since 2012. As a fashion, it has rules and the rules need to be follow in order to be considered that fashion. One of the biggest core values is that Lolita is a modest fashion and not to be sexualized at all. That said, I am also into dd/lg. What a lot of people don’t understand is that it is not particularly sexual in nature. Don’t get me wrong, it can be and absolutely is in many cases. At the core, dd/lg is more of a life style. It is for people who struggle with emotion control and daily responsibilities. The roll of the dd is someone in control to ensure that the lg is being their best selves, and that is not inherently sexual. However, Lolita and sexual dd/lg are not compatible due to conflicting core values. Lolita is not to be sexualized and sexual dd/lg, well it’s pretty obvious why that’s an issue. As someone who is invested in Lolita and dd/lg, I must say that the two do not go hand in hand for me. Lolita is clothing I love to wear and enjoy and is never mixed with dd/lg. Besides, I would *never* risk ruining my brand. Dd/lg is part of my emotional relationship with my partner. They are entirely separate and I am able to love and enjoy both of those aspects of my life in an appropriate manner. If anyone has questions about dd/lg and are genuinely interested in understanding it, feel free to message me. I believe there is a true lack of understanding in the community and dd/lg is often demonized because of this. I am however, completely aware that some individuals “break the rules” so to speak. I can tell you with decent certainty that this is a “vocal minority” of people in the community, and most Lolita and dd/lg individuals I know share the same beliefs as me.

As a trans person, I do know of several other trans people who admit that their introduction to their own transness was through kinks like sissification and it’s sister kink which i won’t name (they realized after participating once or twice that their feelings were not actually feelings of shame or fetishized humiliation, but of feeling genuinely attractive and wanted as a woman and that helped them recognize, “hey, i actually just... am a woman”), however you and every other person is CORRECT in saying that sissies aren’t trans women. Sissification *can* be the beginning of *some* trans journeys but that’s not common and not a reason to insist every single sissy is trans and the insistence that being a trans woman is the same as sissification is transphobic and specifically transmisogynistic.

I very much needed the bit on disability. I'm semi-ambulatory wheelchair & crutches user, I have cerebral palsy and between my weight and my disability (and the subsequent brokeness that comes with being unable to work) I held myself back from lolita for a long long time. Thankfully, everyone I've known is pretty understanding that I just Cannot Do some shoes or that I can't really buy brand shoes because I will tear them up in literally 20 minutes of walking or even sometimes that a petticoat will obstruct my crutches/make me feel claustrophobic in my wheelchair. I tend to wear the petti anyway because of the (sparse) negativity I've seen towards people who go without. I also require an underskirt at all times due to swayback-scoliosis and a big backside - though now I've been seeing a lot of "underskirts ALWAYS look bad" comments but better than showing my butt.

@LacedWithOreos5 жыл бұрын
It's under new ownership, so no more creepy owner. If you aren't aware of the horrible stuff that went down with him, LovelyLor has a detailed video breaking it all down. Hopefully this means more actual lolita dresses from Bodyline!~

Unfortunately while the 'embarrassment' aspect carries over across most of it, in many cases for rather depressing reasons, "Sissy" is applied to the vast majority of mtf pornography and erotica, including magical or pseudoscience transformation stories wholly disconnected from the wikipedia definition. So a fair number of trans women may identify with the term without having much in common with the crossdressing humiliation fetishists. This isn't a defense of invading non-pornographic spaces with disquieting fetishism but some of those people are in need of big sisters to guide them to other sources and outlets.

I hope you won't be annoyed with me for saying I like seeing you in other main colours than pink. The lemon co-ord was just beautiful (I remember seeing the dress in your wardrobe) and I love this colour too. Another great video.
