I have gone makeup free apart from light concealer when I need to look a bit more polished for work. Natural hair, nails are polished but kept short, no tattoos. I am not trying to spend hundreds of $$$ a month on unnecessary "enhancements" to my appearance. I may not be a head turner but I believe TMH gave me a beauty that radiates from within, something that will not be taken away from me as I age, as looks will inevitably fade, but good character can always be improved upon as long as you value and invest in it.

I'm considered the "Plain Jane/Girl Next door" type. I have natural everything. I keep myself up but I don't overspend not over exaggerate. I do have only one tattoo a small one set of wolf paws on my upper arm. I had my dating problems though back in the day because I wasn't "street enough". I was pleasant, can hold and carry a conversation, have both parents in the house. I didn't/don't cuss all the time. I don't call my friends b's and h's. I have respect for myself and others.

I’m a plain Jane ..I do enhance my beauty though . If I wear extensions they match my hair and it’s not down to my behind . Most times I wear mascara , if I’m feeling fancy I’ll wear eyelashes but I’m cautious of the length .Don’t show to much of my body , I understand I’m a representation of my family! Her question is perfectly legitimate. Essentially, she's asking, 'If society is feeding us this narrative about what should be aesthetically pleasing to men, and we invest in the narrative with our time and hard-earned cash, why isn't it paying off in terms of finding a husband?' (And side note: She is pretty! Why can't black women self-identify as pretty without the world coming to tear them down???) If she self-identified as ugly, the same hypocrites would be throwing "black queen" rhetoric at her. For the record, black women do not need anyone's permission to believe they are beautiful. Back to her question and some possible answers... (1) I think older women have failed to teach younger women about their worth beyond their looks. (2) What the media sells (stories and images about what's required to be beautiful) and what it truly believes are two different things. (3) You're enough already, you have to believe it. (4) You're likely doing too much... invest in your authentic self and the right man (singular) will appreciate and honor you. She looks to be very young asking a sincere question. Why are people so quick to destroy other people when they're vulnerable/sincere?
