I remember as a kid watching this film in the theater with my parents. My mother, who was raised going to Catholic school with nuns as her teachers, not to mention the music being for her age group...I'd never heard her laugh so hard at anything in her life than this film. Tears streaming down her face during some parts. I can't help but smile when I watch a clip from this film. Hit all the right notes.

As a Catholic, I think there needs to be more of these types of people who can combine their passion (music, art, literature, etc.) and offer them to God. I think that it is wonderful that the main character is able to break out of the typical, classical style choir music (not that there's anything wrong with classical style music)

Hi Guilherme I've been doing some research into the choir singers too and I've been scouring the Internet trying to find out which one says "...and I'm gonna!" and it's like she never existed. I've been sifting around and I'm 99% sure the person that sings the line "He's my ideal..." is in fact Beth Fowler (who now is in Orange is the New Black - TV Series). But that leaves us with the question of who sung "...and I'm gonna'!" ? IMDB and Wikipedia aren't any help and we're clearly looking for a women with a Southern American accent.

I always liked those four girls who were watching in the audience and who cheered at the end. They first showed up when they heard "Oh Maria" and despite how they looked, how they probably acted and everything, the priest just simply beckoned them to come in and join them. You are right. I am a Catholic--and a three-time Grand Knight in the Knights of Columbus, and I love this movie. There is nothing blasphemous about it. These are nuns, singing about how nothing can keep them from God. That is beautiful. At the end when they shake their shoulders is a tiny bit saucy, but so what? God is able to work "through" people without contradicting free will. He does not "force" people to follow Him; that is a ridiculous notion. Yes, but your forgetting what the rest of the Bible says about those passages. Jesus said he did not come to condemn people and send them to Hell, but that he came so he could save people from it. He said he came to save people and save people from Hell, but at the same time the decision to save yourself is not up to HIM but up to the individual. If you want to save yourself by accepting his sacrifice you can, but if you don't want to, you don't have to ( which is the awesome thing about free will. We don't HAVE to do anything, its all up to us ). And when Jesus said people would be killed, he meant that his followers would be persecuted and killed for their beliefs ( which they have ) if they decided to follow him. I'm an antheic Czech guy (from eastern Europe) coming from atheistic family... and we've always loved this movie and music. You don't have to be part of religion group to appreciate it's culture. So here I am shoving this up my asphalt, Kiddo. This song was originally sung by Mary Wells in 1964 and not to God but about her boyfriend. One of the sweetest songs I know. I was 15 and longed for a guy to sing this to and when he came along five years later--well, I had moved on. I'm 67 now and married 43 years, but I could sing it to that guy, my Mr. He's the best! Almost as good as God, but that's the story behind this song. It was called My Guy, but I like it this way too. Merry Xmas all!

I absolutely love this movie and its message: there's room for laughter, fun, and amazing music in religion. I also love that all of the nuns get little solos, showing that they're a true community and happy for one another! :D

Watching this movie today (I'm lukewarm and I have problems with games and tv series and movies etc.) I cried so much at this scene Like God really is close to me and nobody or anything can tear me away from Him, like I can run but He's always there.
