When I watched my father take his last breath, it was at that moment I realized what “ the body is just a vessel” meant. My mother asked me if I wanted any ashes and I realized I didn’t needed them because of the realization of the body. However, for the people saying “ it’s not a big deal, the body is a vessel, they are gone” The body deserves respect, I would’ve been mortified to know my father was handled in this horrific way.

As we bore the image of the earthy we shall also bear the image of the heavenly. But whether cremation or burial it should be handled with dignity

I heard of a funeral home that took in bodies from hospitals who had no more room in their coolers. This funeral home's cooler became full too, so then they stored bodies in a van outside which was a unrefridgerated van. They were caught and charged.

Maybe because there was a shady deal between the Hospital/Doc and the Downard Funeral Home??? A major investigation needs to be done, including that of the University with which Downard dealt. There have been cases like this in other parts of the country as well. This is not an isolated incident! It reminds me of the body snatchers of the Victorian and Edwardian Eras. Simply unconscionable !!!

My dad owns a funeral home on the east coast. Not sure how it works everywhere, but in our area there is a sort of rotation with hospitals, law enforcement, and government funded agencies where they alternate who they recommend between local funeral homes to avoid favoring a particular business, so I do wonder if that was the case here.

Here we give them the names of all local funeral homes, pharmacies, etc. for whichever one is needed. We do not refer them to any! Here is a list with all of them and their phone number.

I can identify with you. My neighbor lady passed away a few years ago. Her body was taken to a funeral home. She was to be cremated and her sister lives many miles away. So I tried to give her updates. 53 days later she was still there and no cremation done. I turned it over to her sister at that point. Shameful!

Back in the 90's in north Georgia a crematorium was found to be an absolute horror. Seems their oven broke and they just buried body's everywhere on their property. It was a big deal back then but never heard since. So very sorry for this family.

Sadly it is still going on…I don’t know why the state doesn’t own these mausoleums rather than privately owned….no check up on a regular basis being done, and horrific states of disrepair, caskets open….just look in Google…you can’t make things made up like that.., so upsetting and so disrespectful to the person who died and thought that would be their final resting place.

When there's so much happening in this crazy world right now, this is just a pure bummer. They told me, more often than not, they were not claimed. 😕 A sad but hard truth.

I lived in Pocatello, in the early 80’s, and was in high school back then, and from what I remember, Downard used to have such a high reputation back then. It is a sad and sorry shame!
