Sister Sledge is an American musical vocal group from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Formed in 1971, the group consisted of sisters Debbie, Joni, Kim and Kathy Sledge. The siblings achieved international success at the height of the disco era. The year 1979 saw the release of their breakthrough album We Are Family, which peaked at number three on the US Album Chart and included the 1979 US top ten singles "He's the Greatest Dancer" and "We Are Family". A third single, "Lost in Music", reached the US top forty. "We Are Family" earned a Grammy Award nomination for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal.

One thing I will never forget, I was working at Disney during summer of 85 and 86, back then they had a summer concert series, I was a big fan of sister sledge, n had a huge crush on Kathy, I went on break n I was right over where the busses let off the employees to the underground tunnels, I was out there n this bus pulled up n it was sister sledge, I seen Kathy get off n I yelled out, I love you Kathy, she yelled back 'I love you too bby !!! I will never forget that !!!

Nile Rogers and Bernard Edwards of the Chic Organisation proved they could make international stars out of a totally unknown group. Atlantic Records had wanted to use them to re-energise several already known acts but they stuck to their plan which work magnificently. Of course it helped no end that the Sledge sisters were so incredibly talented and likeable. The rest is history.... imho up their with the Ronettes, Shangri La's and Supremes as all time girl group greats.
