I think I am the rare case with so incredibly blue undertone that both cool subgroups works better than the rest of winter or summer, one annoying thing about this undertone is almost every shade of face makeup that is even neutral turns warm on me, even things that on other cool toned people are fine can be orange on my skin :D one of the reasons I got certified in colour analysis , in the end both me and my teacher determined my subseason as cool winter because of my dominant high contrast but my mom who got her colour analysis courses back in the 90s when it was only 4 seasons still thinks I am a summer :D One day I will do a second opinion and maybe let you guys analyze me as well :)

Some systems have an in-between palette which comes from the tonal system interfacing with the seasonal systems. You may be a "true cool" which sits between cool summer and cool winter.

I think you and I might be the same in that regard. Your overall colouring/complexion looks very similar to me, though your skin looks much clearer than mine. 😅 My sister is an autumn and she had what looked like a neutral dark red/burgundy lipstick. On her it looked more wine/purplish and on me it was red with orange tones 😢 I am a cool-soft summer as far as I can tell. But like you I must have one he// of a cool blue undertone. I can get away with some colours from the winter palette, especially when I dye my hair black.

I'd be curious to know if you could be considered as a true cool, a clear summer, a soft winter or even a soft cool and deep in other systems than the 12 seasons system used here. Ok, so I was analyzed as a blue spring by House of Colour. I am convinced after that analysis and my own study of color analysis over the years that I am a soft spring. It is the only thing that makes sense. I am most definitely a spring but light spring is too light, warm spring too warm and bright spring is way too bright. Have you ever run across this? The autumn colors are too muddy. Cool colors are bad. So I find softer versions of the spring colors like soft corals, or low contrast patterns etc and it works well.

This was really helpful! I’ve always struggled to find a home season. I think I’m right in the middle of soft autumn and summer, so both those seasons work better than true summer or true autumn. Summer Bubble gum pink, light colours, and autumn yellow-based camel are all a bit strange on me but I look great in grey, muted neutral browns, and army green
@lemmings651610 күн бұрын
After years of trying different colours I found out I’m a soft autumn! Those yellow browns and khaki really make me look fantastic. But i feel like soft autumn is quite versatile - I have ashy brown hair with a little bit of a golden glow but it’s not a really warm brown and green hazel eyes and very fair olive skin. A lot of the soft autumn colours don’t suit me because they are too soft but brightness is my absolute enemy. I can wear all the colours that are super pigmented but a little dirty - some brown and black mixed into it. And I can pull off quite a range of coolness and warmth, I’m not really sensitive to that. I feel like my ideal season is deep autumn but made softer. That’s all the colours I wear but because I need that softness I think I am a soft autumn that call draw from deep autumn aswell. Soft Summer is also easy to pull off and dark winter occasionally works aswell.

Seasonal colour analysis seems to have originated with Johannes Itten, who divided a traditional colour wheel into quadrants & labelled them seasons. Suggested a person's colouring & personality matched. His colour wheel was quite dull plus now considered to be outdated. There is so much inconsistency between palettes from different companies & analysts. Subjectively chosen. I was typed as "deep autumn" in the 90s. I think my colouring has become more neutral with age. I think some colours from a winter palette suit me better now than warm or soft autumn. Some "deep autumn" palettes look like either soft, warm or winter palettes too.

I love this kind of content because I like pushing boundaries. When I first got into color analysis, I thought I was a Winter but talked myself out of it because I could selectively find colors in other palettes that are legitimately good colors. The key is that I can pick from other palettes. And if I compare those to my worst Winter colors, the cherry-picked colors from other palettes (especially Spring and Summer) are better. II have absolutely no doubt that I am a Winter-- all my best colors are Winter colors, and my absolute best colors are the jewel tones. But I can selectively wear certain colors from Spring and Summer better than my worst colors in the Winter palette. I see this specifically with the 'icy lights' in Winter (I can actually only wear the bluest ones-- so icy blue, icy aqua, icy lavender-- without looking completely washed out, and even my friend who has a truly bad eye for color can see how bad they are). There's no such thing as too dark, too cool, or too bright for me. There is too light, too muted and too warm. I run into the bright/muted threshold way before any others. Cool/warm is very dependent on how light or dark a color is. I can handle lighter warm colors, but not darker ones, and that may be because darker warm colors start getting too close to brown for me. As such, my dark/light range has a lot to do with how warm/cool or bright/muted the color is. In general, I have a path to lighter colors, I just have to navigate it carefully. I do find I can wear most of the Summer colors that are light instead as opposed to soft-- or example, there's a whole group I think of as Summerberry Pinks-- they're in the magenta range with some white added-- no gray, and not getting as light as the Winter icy pink; similar story with purples, green-blues and blues... there's a whole layer of these colors in Cool Summer and Light Summer. As they get lighter, they do get more challenging for me, but they're not off the table, especially as tops under a more Winter cardigan. I can also borrow pretty extensively from Spring, including some of her warmer colors, as long as they stay bright and don't get too light. For instance, I can wear a light bright coral better than Winter's icy pink, but the introduction of any degree of muted warmth (aka, brown) is kryptonite to me. Similarly, I can snag quite a lot of yellows and greens from Spring, and any of the blues and purples Spring has managed to pick up I can just snatch back. Arguably they weren't hers to begin with (jk). It's much trickier for me to borrow from Autumn. Some of the jammy purples and most vibrant teals are my only real options there. But, regardless of who I'm borrowing from, if I'm assembling a palette, I have to have Winter colors. If I'm going to wear a Spring yellow or a Summerberry pink, I need it grounded against dark denim or navy. I can pull in these other colors if I want to, but I can't build entire outfits out of them or wear them head-to-toe. Even the most flattering ones-- like a medium-light blue-violet that does marvelous things for my eye color-- need a dark element with them for the to avoid looking top-heavy. My palette is Winter and whichever boundaries I push, I have to respect that.

Hi Giulia and Alessandra! Always a pleasure to see you! Thank you for this video! Now I’m beginning to understand what I don’t understand. :) I drew the circle with all information and realised what confuses me: UNDERTONE has a half of the circle. INTENSITY has also a half of the circle, but two names in high and low, and bright and soft. VALUE hasn’t half of the circle in that obvious way, (but a diagonally) The two “names” of INTENSITY, and what VALUE is, and that it comes “alone” a bit later in the analysis, have probably messed up my brain.:) Thank you so much for making colours in life so very special and beautiful! Love from Sweden! ❤

I (very cool, light skin and medium to light, but not very ashy blond) got analyzed by dominant characteristics (cool, clear, light) and got a personalized palette, not a standard palette. By seasonal analysis, I would probably be put into cool summer, but that standard palette wouldn't suit me perfecrly because in fact, some medium to light colors of the winter palette suit me better. I can tolerate more clarity and, as it was shown during analysis (one time in person and one time by pictures by different analysts) the softer and the very light colors wash me out and make me look pale and grey. But the dark winter colors are too much of a contrast, also patterns with lots of contrasts. So yes, there are cases between the standard palettes of seasonal analysis 😉 // edit (But don't get me wrong - I think in many cases, seasonal analysis works fine because the seasons stand for most of the dominant characteristics. I love the videos on this channel - these two are doing an amazing job ❤)

Actually the Summer Cool Palette is the darkest between summer subgroups so it will be someone with medium to dark undertone but soft not clear. In the 16 Palette Analysis summers are soft like Autumns ( have grey added in their colours) Winters and Springs are clear very crisp colours , vibrant added white so in my opinion a person can't be clear and soft at the same time. When Alexandra and Giulia did my Analysis they told me specificaly to stay in my soft warm spectrum because everything clear and bright is overpowering me.( I am True Autumn) Of course i have some Spring/ Winter in my wardrobe, but those colours are overpowering me so i need some solid makeup to make it work, but again i don't play by the book😊 I don't know what system they used on you but beeing light-medium you will probably fit in Light Summer or Soft Summer ( in 16 Palette Analysis) but sometimes is not necessarily that you can borrow from sister season , some people don't look good in anything from another Season so they will probably borrow from their subgroup palettes better. I hope i made sense😅

@AndreeaC. Thank you for your thoughts. 😊 I confirmed actually the case they mentioned at minute 7:40 in their video. I represent obviously the one with some winter cool colors (sister season) suiting better than the summer palettes. But as Winters are usually related to deep features, I wouldn't be put into that category because of my light to medium features. But the very light and softened, muted and greyed colors of the other summer subseasons really make me look horribly grey. 🧟♂️🙈😅 I got my colors done by 2 different analysts (in Germany and Switzerland). The second one used the system of the dominant 3 characteristics which has been becoming more popular during the last few years (It means the combination of the characteristics cool - warm, light - deep, soft/muted - clear/bright, ordered by most to lesser dominant) The first one used an older system from the early 2000 years but in which the process is similar to the one that is shown in these videos, by comparing colors on you and the effect on your features. It looks specifically into the levels of hue, chroma and value and in the end, I got a personalized palette with all the best colors. The second one was a confirmation. 😊 In seasonal analysis, the 12 or 16 palette subseasons represent the most combinations of the different dominant characteristics. Cool Summer and Cool Winter have the coolness as their dominant feature, followed by soft or bright and light or deep. The two explain it very well in their videos 👍 and I appreciate their open-minded approach in which they also explain the cases in which one seems not to fit perfectly at once into the seasonal analysis. I'm a little bit obsessed with color analysis and love to watch all the videos of different analysts on KZbin 😅

Ciao, bellezze! I was born in Sicily but live in the United States and have been enjoying your videos. Not that long ago, on a makeup website, I was shown to have a peach/warm undertone with a fair-light overtone. From watching your videos, I have learned that there is no such thing as a peach, olive, etc. undertone. The undertones are only cool or warm. So for me, the warm peach would actually be an overtone, and it’s possible that I could have a cool undertone. I don’t wear foundation/concealer but have learned from you to match foundation to overtone, not undertone. When it comes to eye makeup, blush, and lipstick, I prefer neutral-cool. Slightly warm is fine, but overly warm seems off on me. As far as jewelry, I wear platinum, white gold, rose gold, and yellow gold, but I prefer yellow gold. However, in clothing, I think I look better in silver rather than gold. 🤷🏻♀️ I feel I look best in Deep Winter colors but don’t mind some of the Deep Autumn ones. I think I understood it like this. Since there are three subcategories per season. But you can still land differently on each main characteristics: undertone, intensity, value. The strength of each dominant features within your season can dictate how well a sister sub-season can work and if it could work better than a sub category in your season. For example in summer cool, not just the coolness but also the level of intensity matters, which is why they might work better with winter cool than summer soft because it’s not just the coolness but more so the medium intensity that makes it harder for them to wear a summer soft look. Similarly a warm spring might work better with a warm autumn than a bright spring because not just the warmth are dominant but also the medium level of intensity. 🫶 It makes so much more sense now!

Hi! I have a question. I know you start with determining the undertone and then determining the level of intensity. Why isn't there a test for value? Or maybe a better question is why are undertone and intensity more important characteristics to determine a season than value? Anyway, just curious! Thanks :)
@colouranalysis_studio11 күн бұрын
This is how our method works (undertone and intensity > value). Also, value is something quite objective to analyse: if you have deep to medium-deep features your value is low, if you have medium-light to light features your value is high. Of course there would be a lot more to say about value but we hope this helps! 🧡

I am the case you mentioned of being a summer cool who looks better in winter cool than summer soft or summer light. Does that mean I should avoid the other summer sub seasons or more like they are equivalent to what my sister sub season would be if I were not borderline (meaning not as good as in season but many of the colors still wearable). Also what does that mean for value? Should I lean a little darker than typical summer cool etc. Grazie Mille.

In terms of value you can lean a little darker than a typical Summer Cool, as you correctly said :) We hope this helps!

@ Hi. Thank you so much for responding. Love the channel and am learning so much from you. That is what I was thinking but I was unsure. Very helpful to hear from you! I was on/near the right track before my analysis but I kept questioning because I thought maybe it was just my own preference for those colors in general. Once getting an answer from you, it all just made so much sense why I favored what I did already and has helped me better identify the right colors. Thanks again.

I was analysed at Bright Winter by Alessandra last year, iirc we found that the Bright Spring orange and red worked better than the very cool and very soft colours of Winter Cool. Brightness definitely seems to be my dominant and most important feature much moreso than deepness or coolness.

I am following a French contentmaker AliceinParis. She was analysed as an Autumn Warm and I can see she def has warm undertones. However she wears black close to her face beautifully. In fact I've seen her wear it head to toe and look AMAZING! How is it even possible?
@shoshanafox72712 күн бұрын
To me it sounds like she had a wrong analysis. Probably a dark winter. She probably has a cool undertone and warm overtone (visible skin). That is very common for dark winter people.
@MadamoftheCatHouse12 күн бұрын
@@shoshanafox727 No, she has warm undertone. She wears gold jewelry MUCH better than silver. Looks great in earth tones but terrible in cool pinks and fuschia. Wears orangey red lipstick very well but cool pink ones pretty badly.

@@MadamoftheCatHouse I'll check her out. I am a winter deep. I also look better in earth tones than in cool pink and fuschia. There are many cool winter and bright winter colors that I can't wear. My dominant features are deep and muted. I borrow from dark autumn a lot. Imo the best way to determine if someone is dark autumn or dark winter is to compare grey VS warm beige. I've used that combo on many dark season people to determine undertone. It usually works quite well. I can't say what her undertone is without seeing her. 🙂

i've been meaning to ask, are there any overlaps between seasons? i was going through some palettes on the internet and i noticed the same shade of pink in two opposite palettes, a warm spring palette and a cool summer palette. it could be that someone just made a mistake, of course, but it really seemed to me that in the context of spring colours the pink looked warm, and in the context of summer colours it looked cool... so i don't know. 😀

I have learned so much about color analysis from watching your videos. I love color and feel like I have a good eye for it. How do you get training? Were you trained in AUS or in Italy? Do you have a suggestion of reputable schools?

I have a question ! Are the icy colours from Winter Cool the same as the colours of the Bright Summer palette ? Maybe some day you could talk about overtone, what role plays the overtone when wearing different colours ? If you are very red or have a dark skin. I have a red overtone and I have the impression that blues and greens look better than greys (I'm a Winter Cool). This was a very useful video. Thank you !

Do you find that Winters who go silver usually end up in Summer? I was draped as a True Winter, but have heard analysts say that if I stopped dyeing my hair and went silver my season could potentially change to Summer. But that confuses me. Since Summer isn't just lighter. It's also softer, which seems to go against the high chroma of Winter. I'm still pale with dark eyes and brown eyebrows, and the silver transition isn't 100% complete. I know the answer is to re-drape at some point. But I'm just curious about the chroma thing with Winter and Summer. I didn't think that was merely a hair color issue. In your experience, what do you typically see happen?
@shoshanafox72712 күн бұрын
Imo it's not at all about hair color. I used to be cool winter. My visible skin color (overtone) changed. It became warmer and muted(greyed). So now I'm a dark winter. I am 66 years old. I was first color analysed when I was 25 years old. 🙂
@AndreeaC.12 күн бұрын
@@LeighMerrydayPorch far as i've understood you can't change your season even if you go gray. So if you feel Summer colours work better now than before you was probably wrong analysed from the beginning. I am Autumn i look horrible in Summer and Spring i could make it work with heavy makeup because is Warm but much stronger / brighter than Autumn! Summer colours are completely off , Winter is too stark and too deep! I would probably fall in one of my Autumn subgroups better than others if this actually happens !
@shoshanafox72712 күн бұрын
@@AndreeaC.Imo the undertone cannot change, but the overtone can change. It's not about hair. The skin can change. My sister is the same. She went from cool summer to soft summer. Now she looks good in a lot of soft autumn colors. How old are you? Have you hit menopause yet? After menopause everything can change!!! Wait and see! 😏😄
@AndreeaC.12 күн бұрын
@@shoshanafox727 exactly but the colour Analysis is about undertone not overtone ( you can adjust it with foundation and skin tints )! Is just my opinion and no i didn't hit menopause ( i'm 36) plus when they do the Analysis they cover your hair and there are people out there who are Winters but with blue eyes and Summers with very dark hair not necessarily blonde or dark blonde , people with Rosaccea wo aren't cool undertone and plain warm. When you are correctly analysed and receive your Palette those colours are a mix of your real body fluids and skin surface and that's why wrong colours have a horrible impact on your surface ( appearence of dark undereye circles, grey spot etc.) because you look unhealthy and clashes with your body surface/ skin overall. I am a True Autumn and " by the book" i should have a very warm overtone ( foundation shade ) but guess what i need neutral shades with a little grey in them and yellow in my shades is out of line for me. Plus your sister remained primarly still in her Season Summer she ist Soft Summer and can borrow some from Soft Autumn( Autumn is also Muted) but the person above asked if someone coud change from Winter Season deep and clear to Summer Season soft and muted , both are cool but completely different intensity.
@colouranalysis_studio11 күн бұрын
As someone already correctly commented, it's not all about the hair colour. The skin is still the most important part. It is definitely possible to slide from Winter to Summer with time, but it's not the destiny of every Winter to become a Summer. Actually it is more common to stay in the Winter palette and potentially change subgroup :) This is what we saw in our experience. Thank you so much for your technical and very interesting comment!

Very glad to see a new video. You are so right about the graph. I like looking at it as a compass 🧭, but maybe that's too much of an analogy haha 😂 I personally like a bit of a shimmer and a bit of a sparkle, but as a cool summer, I noticed a pearl-level of shine is my best. If I want more of a "frosted" or icy look (which I associate with winters) I do it very softly. An analogy to what I mean here would be powder sugar VS crystal sugar. @Giulia, I must say I regret missing the chance of writing in my thank you mail, that I am so ready to steal some of your colours from your sub season. @Alessandra are you excited about the new colour of the year? Will you guys make a video about this like last year for peach fuzz? Have a colourful day!

As a True summer, I am always confused to what colours I can borrow from the summer subgroups since I don't have a sister season... would there be a general rule what colours of the subgroups I should focus on?

Great idea with the matching shirts, but I was so focused on Alessandra in this video, the soft beige/ecru works so well with her coloring! She’s outdoing Guilia and it makes so much sense, since Alessandra’s coloring is enhanced more by that beige than Giulia’s by the snow-white shirt. Giulia as a winter needs saturation that white doesn’t provide.

I watched an episode of colour analysis once that did not make any sense to me. That woman was having her colours analyzed and she was wearing gold and silver jewelry equally well. So it meant her undertone was close to neutral. But then the analyst said she was Winter COOL! Now how is that even possible? After all being a Winter or Summer Cool means you have a VERY cool undertone and most def cannot wear gold equally well as silver. Must have been an incompetent analyst.
@laurarosanne12 күн бұрын
What you describe is actually my personal situation! When I was professionally analyzed, we started out by testing jewelry: both gold and silver worked equally fine with my neutral skin. But with the colour drapes, cool and bright tones (and second deep tones) work best on me. So I am a winter (cool / bright) who can wear both jewelry types. I prefer silver however :-)
