Sisters of Mercy - Heartland (EP). Some girls wander by mistake. What does he talk about in that song ?

I love the way he carefully pronounces Path and the lyrics “the giant steps we had to take” is so evocative and fateful. Does he mean agriculture? Fission? Nationalism? So rad! And it’s a great song for dancing to in a London basement club =] anyone ever go to Jean Pierre’s in London back in the early 80s??

Best Sisters song, so depressively deep. The guitars, the bass everything is new in 1981/1982 so refreshing!

There's something mystical about Heartland something incantatory .. it's takes you away with dark and magnetic power, My heart my flame my heart my road Heartland sounds like an anthem Sisters''s anthem..and i like it .

Sometimes with Sisters songs where some of the lyrics are unfathomable I like to attach my own meanings to their songs. I sometimes do that with Mission songs too.

The answer to the question "What does he talk about in that song ?" is Geopolitics and Mackinder's Heartland Theory
@Idontwantahandle66694 жыл бұрын
tragkas you’re thinking way too deeply into it. The message is rather simplistic. People do this with siouxsie and the banshees songs too. Too many pseudo-intellectuals get into this music.

I believe its about immigrating from your troubled ancestral lands to make a new life & the new land your own. The first verse. "Lay me down the long white line Leave the sirens far behind me Paint my name in black and gold My heart my flame my heart my road" I interpret as: long white line = borders drawn on map; Leave the sirens far behind me = leaving country under duress; Paint my name in black and gold = signing a new deed or citizenship; My heart my flame my heart my road = burning desire for change by moving away.

s g w b mistake... from the Leohard Cohen song Teachers the scalpel reference indicates suicide as far as i gather check out the original even the name SoM refers to a L C song although the deep root is of course Florence Nightingale and her band of merry war nurses the original Sisters of Mercy(specially funEYE cause the Sisters(Andrews Sisters now) are mostly gay)
@davidshechtman47465 жыл бұрын
The graphic of the head that attends every merciful release is from Greys Anatomy and entitled "dissection of the head fig. 1" 'scalpel'?

djole djole I know there are way too many idiots that get into this music. If they had even the most basic of comprehension skills they wouldn’t be overseeing what the song is actually about. People pretend to be deep because their actually shallow.
