Funny but when I saw you on that trail my first thought was "watch out for snakes"! I've lived here for 75 years but never saw a rattle snake until we camped for a couple of days at Trails a few years ago. Walking on the ridge I got within 10' before it rattled - I never saw it but sure heard it! Some how I never expected to see one "at the beach" (or near it). Glad you had a fun and safe trip!

There are actually snakes in Hawaii, including the Brahminy Blind Snake, which looks like an earthworm, feeds on ants and termites, seeks shelter under nests, humus, logs, and leaves, and is, at approximately six inches in length, one of the smallest snakes in North America. There are some other snake species in Hawaii that are invasive.
