Sisu is the Finnish word to describe the attitude of stubbornly refusing to give up, against all odds, no matter what. Like an athlete, say, a Marathon runner, dead tired, vomiting, but refusing to stop running, until he gets through the finish line. Or building a house by yourself, with no help, refusing to give up, until the house is finished. Or, a small business owner, working long hours, until finally turning a profit. Or John McClane or John Rambo fighting back, refusing to surrender, even if they are outnumbered by the enemy, tired, wounded, cold. Writer/director Jalmari Helander is a big fan of American action movies. His previous movie, Big Game, starring Samuel L. Jackson as POTUS, was like a mix of Die Hard, Air Force One and Home Alone. In it, a young Finnish boy on a hunting trip in Lapland ( = Northern parts of Finland and part of Norway) wilderness, helps the US President, whose plane has crash landed, fight against a group of terrorists. Before that, he did the dark fantasy comedy Rare Exports, a "Christmas movie", which mixes elements of horror and action adventure, where Santa Claus is a huge goat demon and elves are these humanoid, bloodthirsty, feral beings that can be captured and domesticated and sent to supermarkets to act as mall Santas. Helander brothers, who have worked on TV advertising, had previously done two short movies based on the same idea, one a mockumentary, in the style of nature documentaries, and one in the style of educational video about company safety protocols. With a little searching, you may find them on KZbin. Search for "Rare Exports Inc". BTW, Finnish word for Santa Claus, Joulupukki (Joulu = Yule, pukki = goat), directly translates to Yule Goat, or Christmas Goat. That is after some ancient customs and deities from our Pagan times, from centuries ago.
