Random musing.. Some believe the Sith embody Nietzsche's master morality. A society built on the philosophy that the strong do what they can, while the weak suffer what they must (as the Athenians put it). Those clever, strong, or adept enough to seize and keep power - deserve it. There is no "good". There is no "evil". There is just the strong mastering the weak, as in nature. Those beneath them deserve their fate and are looked upon with contempt or pity. Power eventually consolidates into an authoritarian technocratic system either overtly or through propaganda/ideological frameworks to maintain control/order - leading to resentment by those marginalized, often lashing out in social/political movements, violent revolutions, or religions promoting selflessness/collectivism branding the Master traits (dominance, power, strength) a "sins" - yet eventually using the same methods to retain/expand their own opposing ideology. An endless cycle playing out over and over.. Star Wars is a story of the human experience. Anthropologist turned filmmaker, George Lucas.
@amandeepbaghiana45104 жыл бұрын
The message of Star wars is an inherent morality. There are decisions that will lead to good consequences and there are decisions that will lead to bad consequences. The point is to recognize the weight of your actions on those around us. We need to be above a master or a slave. The powerful are given power so that they may serve the weak . This is one of the highest honor that every tradition and culture recognizes.
@BlueMorningStar2 жыл бұрын
Eh, there might be some connection, but I wouldn't go so far as to call the Sith a good representation of Nietzsche's ideas. Lucas modelled the sith / empire off of Nazi Germany, and the Nazis translated master morality into their idea of a master race, but the thing is the Nazis were BAD readers of Nietzsche, and the sith are likewise a bad reflection of master morality. Master morality isn’t dark, it isn’t vindictive, and it isn’t sadistic the way the sith are; what master morality is is unconscious. Nietzsche likes to use the example of a hawk. When a hawk kills and eats a chicken, it doesn’t do it because it hates the chicken and wants the chicken to suffer, but simply because the chicken tastes good. The hawk is doing what is good for the hawk, and it is completely ambivalent to the chicken’s feelings on the matter. The sith are obsessed with vengeance, hatred, and dominance not for the sake of flourishing, but for the sake of SHOWING their superiority to the dominated; in short, they care waaay too much what the chicken thinks to be considered a good representation of master morality. If anything, the sith are what slave morality imagines when it looks at master morality.
@Melancholy30810 ай бұрын
@@BlueMorningStar I agree somewhat with you, but What you are missing is that the hawk is not aware of its mind or that of the chicken. Nietzsche's ubermensch represents the individual who transcends conventional morality and creates its own values. While Sith may not be accurate to the idealized version of the ubermensch, the pursuit of their own goals aligns with Nietzsche's perspective on individual autonomy and self-creation. This sort of nullifies your argument "The Sith are obsessed with vengeance, hatred, and dominance, not for the sake of flourishing". Nietzsche also emphasizes the will to power as a driving force behind human behaviour. The Sith, with their pursuit of power and dominance, exemplify this concept to an extent. While their philosophy may not align with Nietzsche's morale, their pursuit of power aligns with Nietzsche's idea of the will to power as a fundamental aspect of human nature.

A remnant of glory past. It's pretty fascinating when you consider imperial players all got to experience this, and once the rule of two was established; all of us(players) ended up just echos in an old sith system, where we all thrived for power and encouraged backstabbing and ambition. Dromund Kaas is just that, a symbol of the old ways where we remember actively shaping it.

Rampant, if you read his blog, Philip Braselmann has actually had depression himself for over 12 years, he 'overcame' it through exercise (giving himself something to do and is scientifically proven to help depression). Of course this doesn't work for everybody though and there are different levels of severity that comes with depression. However, as a member of a family who all has gone to University to study Psychology, I am hold a lot of lecturers do talk about how most people who think they're depressed or have minor depression usually are just lazy and/or they're simply not doing enough in their day to take their mind of thinking negatively. I myself have been thought to have depression by a professional, a psychologist told me. Ever since I have ran a successful business and talked to my friends more and not isolating myself I haven't felt that depressed feeling I once did and I haven't visited a professional since. It may sound insensitive but it is fact. It is important to remember however that depression is a mental illness and can affect some more than others.

In SW Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith, Dromund Kaas is a massive swamp with an old long derelict temple. It gave a very eerie feeling, just walking down it's seemingly endless corridors, it's very quiet, and the darkness just enshrouds the scenery. Then every once in a while, the sith statues come to life and attack you

I played it when I was a kid back then. It was the first time I got to know the word _Sith_. The swamp level and the temple itself give me the creeps to this day, those statues with glowing eyes, strange and scary underwater creatures, endless pits sucking you inside.... and then you, yourself - Dark Mara. Back then I was scared to death, especially that I never expected that after a few happy-go-lucky smuggler missions Mara is going to save evil Kyle and traveling to the most evil planet in the galaxy. Even its name is filled with dread. Playing those levels makes evil a tangible thing. *THIS* is Star Wars.

Steven Tan Nazis were collectivists, the Sith are individualist. The Sith look out for themselves and how to rise to power while the Nazis looked for how to better the Germanic people (though you are allowed to disagree with their methods, that was what they were trying to do). They both like order and tradition. They just aren’t the same though.
