This song was released in 2006, and it is from a famous Tamil movie Sillunu Oru Kadhal. I was 7 years old when it released, and immediately fell in love with the movie and the songs, but especially Munbe Vaa. It’s about the blossom of first love, and it is one of my all time favourite Tamil songs. Even though I am now living abroad, I burst into tears watching Dato Siti sing this song with such passion and respect and immediately felt I was back in Malaysia. This was such a beautiful tribute to such a beloved song that so many Tamil Malaysians grew up loving, and a beautiful moment of unity for all us Malaysians ❤️❤️❤️👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

I don't follow Indian/Tamil music scene, but I do know AR Rahman is a very famous and respectable artist. And I was told that this song is actually a legendary song, sung by Sherya Goshal, one of the most prolific songstress in India. Many of my Indian friends said that this song is tough. If Malay traditional music has lenggok, Indian songs have something they called raga, one of the melodic formulas of Hindu/Indian music in terms of its melodic shape, rhythm, and ornamentation. And they said Siti not only nailed the Tamil pronunciation, but the raga part as well.

Nephi, DS Siti nailed the song hands down. We know she's a legend when it comes to singing but, being a Tamilian, let me tell you that singing this song was not easy at all. The lyric is kind of tricky for a non-Tamil-speaking person. The pronunciation is so perfect, that the crowd went crazy. Siti just proved that she is indeed Malaysia's number 1. A little inside, the backup vocals- are professional playback singers themselves and have sung songs for movies in various languages in India. The male singer is Haricharan Seshadri, a trained Carnatic singer who has sung over 2000 of songs.

One fact about Malay Malaysians. We probably don't know much about Tamil -language music, but we love Hindi (Bollywood) music. Bollywood scene used to be very big here in Malaysia, (I think it still is), and the followers are not only Indian Malaysians, but Malays too. Don't be surprised if you meet a Malay who can sing Hindi songs. Siti herself has sung several Hindi songs before 😁Both Tamil and Hindi are spoken in India, but on different parts of the country if I'm not mistaken.

Fyi, most Malaysian indians are Tamil. Definitely not Hindi. so we don't really care that much about Bollywood. I do find it annoying that for deepavali they put Bollywood as if to please Malaysian indians, I'm like...the heck 😂 we want Tamil/Telugu/malayalam movies, our mother tongue is not Hindi 😅. So there is a difference between Malays and indians in Malaysia in regards to watching movies from india.
