Sitting for 3 years!! Bringing back this dead Camry for a veteran!

This Camry had been sitting with a blown head gasket for 3 years. The owner couldn’t get it fixed without spending too much money or having a bad mechanic so I gave decided to give him a quote. He agreed but I’m cleaning the car at no extra cost as a surprise. The car is for his niece so it should be a great first car.
Should I detail the inside also?
Let me know what you guys think in the comments!

@@JunkerDriver999 yes, 2001-2006 model were the best. My father owned a 2004 model Camry and drove it for an impressive 600,000 kilometers before selling it and getting the 2014 model. The car's original engine and transmission remained intact, very reliable. However, our 2014 Camry SE required an engine replacement at 320,000 km, which was a disappointment. We were forced to sell it and recently purchased a 2022 Camry V6, hoping it will last until 500,000 km. Unfortunately, the Camry's build quality seems to be declining with each generation.

I'm sure all you people take care of your Camry and do your maintenance. But this video just proves that even a Toyota engine will die if not taken care of properly. This motor would not have survived if he had continued to drive it those 3 years.

This generation of Camry is really starting to grow on me. I HATED them when they came out, thought the tail was all tall and fat. Now, I really appreciate the simplicity. Would love to own one as a simple daily. As I get older I am liking cars that I blend in with much more than flashy things.

I didn’t give them any thought at all until working on them. After seeing the engineering and simplicity of maintenance, it’s a no brainer. These cars should be saved from all junkyards

I would like to see you clean the interior. I wouldn't expect it to be on the level of "the detail geek", but certainly you have some skills. I appreciate your cleaning of exterior and especially the headlights. We have a 2002 Camry. It's at 135,000 miles. It has been a very reliable vehicle.

Classic Stripped head bolts , 2.4 L, 2002-2006 Camry. How I keep it running with gasses leaking into coolant system : Buy Denso 221-0506 tow package radiator . Buy the highest rated water pump ( early Aisin wp are mediocre ). Keep straw loose on coolant reservoir tank ( allows gases to escape). Change oil 3K religiously. Have driven it this way from 141K to 172K. Previous owner must of been told to dump car.

Great video, awesome transformation, as a sort of professional detailer myself it’s recommended to use a soft sponge or wash mit for the paint, a normal brush will scratch the living hell out of the paint but for an extreme case like this it seems like the only viable option to get rid of all that mold and mildew on the car. However regular brushes are a big no no for a cars exterior paint

I have a Camry just like this one, a 2003 ,white , has 370,000 miles, broke down last year April, has a blown head gasket , my mechanic said the block is warp, leaking from the outside of engine, he said not worth, repairing, get another engine, or car. I had my car 21 years , sitting in my driveway, my mechanic said it will cost about $ 1,600 TO REPAIR. 😢

One weakness of this Toyota 2.4 engine is warping, when they're overheated pretty bad they warp and in severe cases strip the threads of the head bolt. Get the block and head resurfaced... Should work perfectly fine, they fix it yourself... Those engines are like Legos... Very easy to work on

If you are, could you video the process of drilling in the upgraded head bolt kit. I know the 2AZ had some issues with the bolts pulling out the threads after a overheat event. Like a much easier caddy northstar. Anyway, I, A beginner backyard mechanic want to see about how hard it is to tear one of these apart. Car Care Nut said theyre very easy to work on. That said, would someone with a good understanding of engines and there specifics but with no experience actually tearing one apart, be able to figure the 2AZ out.

Aw, I’m sorry! The threads in the head were ok so I just threw the head back on. But my x5 cylinder head warped so bad it pulled most of the threads. I couldn’t make a video since it was in the middle of the night but I will be adding time serts to my bmw block to use head studs and hold boost. That video will be interesting lol

Why did it pop a gasket in the first place? Either there was a build defect or the owner ran it too hot. If the owner didn't run it hot then the motor isn't as reliable as thought to be.

Failure to flush and fill the coolant causes it to become acidic and it starts to corrode the gasket and surrounding metals allowing the coolant to eventually enter the cylinders. This is not the only cause, but a very common one.

@@IKhanNot cause Toyota people always find a way to justify Toyota's problems. If it was an american or german car, it's because the car sucks. If it's a Toyota, its due to "lack of maintenance" or "user error"😂
