Took a 2 year break after i built my own PC and gave my ps4 to my fiances daughter. Was at 810cp, most of which I got from PVP. Didnt wanna start over for the longest time. Just came back a month ago and not sold on the direction of the game with Update 35, or where the meta seems to be going for PVP next patch. Gonna wait and see, but very likely ill be finding another game come the end of August. When it comes to lore, questing, casual exploration... still one of best games around. When it comes to end game PVE or PVP... idk, just seems like ZOS doesnt care about those types of players anymore.

The lack of responsiveness and feedback (sound, visuals) from pushing buttons is awful. I don't think it's ever changing because a subset of players got it into their head that the broken combat system is what makes the game difficult. I've been playing ESO for a bit, and it's incredibly fun. Easily has the best questing in an MMO, it respects your time so you aren't trapped in an endless cycle of dailies, and it's just a full blown Elder Scrolls experience with more. I'd recommend anyone to give it a try. My largest complaint with the game is that combat is too simple and un-engaging. Most of the time you'll find yourself mashing auto-attack and spells with little heed to rotations. I think if they revamped the combat the game would be a lot more fun. Perhaps an increase in difficulty too, as world mobs just aren't problematic ever and companions making the game a literal cake walk.
@jontaii1522 жыл бұрын
If you don’t have a rotation you aren’t maximizing your dps so I’m not sure you are considering the combat at endgame. So I can’t agree with that. However I agree with open world combat being atrocious because you get to a point where you melt everything . Even at low levels the combat in the open world is hardly ever threatening
@sanji5722 жыл бұрын
@@jontaii152 (Gonna type a lot, sorry) I haven't gotten to end game yet, but from what i'm grasping so far rotations are incredibly loose. Like on my DK it'll essentially be jump to engage, apply DoT's, and upkeep those DoT's and do some form of damage ability while upkeeping resources. This is fine, but it's not as fun as it potentially could be. In games like World of Warcraft, they have more baked in rotations that kind of feel more like you are comboing. An example of this would be Rogue's stacking combo points on their target to inflict heavy burst damage and then having numerous options to play out the situation. Things like disengaging, damage nullification, damage amplification, or resource regeneration. ESO has this as well, just definitely not as in-depth in my opinion. I think it's a problem with the dual weapon system they've developed as you're pretty much only limited to 10 abilities. Due to the freeform nature of ESO, they can't just bake in specific rotations either. A potential solution is maybe adding specializations like in Guild Wars 2, which also utilizes a dual weapon system. Granting you perks for how you want to play the game. As an example, if i'm a Warden and I play a more support role, I could potentially have my pet have a healing aura, revive downed players, or grant utility buffs within the spec tree. This could compliment ESO's freeform nature a lot and would give players more ways hone their specific build to their liking.

FFXIV was decent but I hated the aesthetics and after I finished a few relics and maxing every job... it fell flat to me, tons of RP 'content' though. I think I stay sucked in because I only have one character. I do everything with that character and I play in 1st person as much as possible. So basically, that character is ME. I’m in this incredible world with all of these incredible views, I’m crafting all these things, I’m helping all of these people and saving Nirn in all of these various, powerful ways. I know my character through and through and I love experiencing Tamriel and all it has to offer through her. Sure, I progress more slowly than probably everyone else, but I’ve never come anywhere near burning out because leaving ESO would feel like leaving my life or my home. Obviously everyone should play in whatever way is most satisfying to them, but I would venture to guess that playing with a bunch of characters and starting new characters all of the time puts emphasis on PLAYING ESO rather than LIVING in ESO. The game can be very grindy, repetitive, and even mundane if you’re mostly concerned with leveling your character(s) as quickly as possible., or just constantly seeking out whatever is trending at the time. Again, it’s on everyone to find for themselves the best way to play, and the game allows for it, but I feel like there’s such a rich world there that a lot of people are really missing out on because they only quest to get skill points or exp and just skip through all the dialogue and could care less what the quest is about. A lot of players don’t even quest at all. I feel like the majority of ESO is in it’s stories, zones, and quests. Even the dungeons and trials are wrapped around significant lore and fascinating stories, but most players don’t even know what The Aetherial Archives are or why they’re even going in there, or what they’re even accomplishing. If a player is not engaged and immersed in the content for whatever reason, the game is thin. I couldn’t play like that, and I know if I did I would burn out too.

First of all, I really enjoyed the video; very entertaining and well done! My opinion on ESO: Can you jump in with a new character, play with no thought or care for consequence, like a kid at an amusement park, and have fun? Sure. But the kid eventually becomes an adult, realizes all the rides cost money, the junk food makes you sick, the games are all cons, and the Ferris Wheel and the fun house are pretty tame. So, with ESO. You hit level 50 get some Champion Points and all of a sudden the overland content is trivial, you have to sub to access all the dungeons and trials (or buy them piecemeal), the meta rules your life and you run the same content over and over trying to get gear. Every new expansion brings new content that feels just like the old stuff and there you are, burnt out once more. I played since beta, but off and on just because of this cycle. I finally just got tired of it and quit. The game seems to be doing really well and I'm glad to see so many people having fun. It's just not for me.
@anthonyzullo2 жыл бұрын
I agree. But the end game is a choice. If you just play all the content you can still rack in thousands of hours of storytelling, mostly for free. Me and my wow buddies have been playing eso zone by zone in the best chronological order we could find twice a week together and it's been like 7 months and we havnt gotten bored or halfway through. Games like wow are pvp and end game oriented now. But if you arnt into hard-core pvp and enjoy RP or Bethesdas elder scrolls deep deep lore, especially if you're older like myself and played everything from morrowind on original Xbox to today its nice seeing the lore. On a budget, love the lore. Eso is in no way a bad game. If end game content is your enjoyment every games end game content is repetitive, costly and boring. There isn't one like them unless it's a true sandbox like EVE, then there isn't any endgame lol

There are pay to win aspects. The craft bag. Essentially you can’t be a crafter without ESO+ because you won’t have infinite space for crafting materials. You can buy xp scrolls as well. But you get plenty of those just playing the game. There aren’t any mounts to collect unless you buy crates. There’s a few you can collect from end game content but there’s only like 3 and the store ones are cooler. There’s a ridiculous amount of content in the game though, that’s its best selling point in my opinion

As someone who only played WoW before I would recommend ESO I’m assuming you don’t mind the 15 sub so def get that because it opens up a lot of the game and gets rid of a lot of shit. PvP is pretty broken though but If you enjoy storytelling(it’s ALOT better then WoWs) and the vet dungeons(mythic+) and the trails(small raids) are both fun and the World PvP in cyrodil is pretty fun and epic although you’ll primarily be the bitch boy in the group until you hit a high CP and learn the core of PvP

TL:DR There is a LOT to love about ESO, the environments and questing is some of the best in the genre. The voice acting is superb, and everything that makes sense to be voiced is voiced. The ambience is INCREDIBLE - NPC bards playing and singing incredible songs in towns, I have actually just sat there listening and /clapped. The combat leaves much to be desired, but it's definitely unique for MMOs - If you like skyrim combat, you'll probably like this? The crafting is complex and involved. The cash shop is fairly disgusting and strongly pushes you towards purchases. 7/10 "Wanted to love it" I have 600 hours in ESO, so I'm by no means an 'experienced' player, and I've done most of that without looking up any guides (Only starting recently due to trying PvP - specifically random battlegrounds (Which is the only option?)) I haven't done any trials which are the raid content, so can't really comment on that. My opinion is that its pretty fantastic for environments, story telling (If you can stop yourself rushing) / questing experience, variety of casual (solo/easily accessible) content... Great for a multiplayer RPG, kinda lacking on the MMO side. A lot of this, imo, comes from the focus on environments/immersion. The guild traders ("Auction House") being bought by guilds, and scattered all throughout various parts of the world - and being limited in nature? - makes interacting with the economy in a modern sense significantly more difficult. The crafting is clearly quite involved, which personally I found overwhelming though crafting isn't really my thing, so it was never going to appeal to me. The stats on gear, coming from a WoW player's perspective, makes no sense and as far as I can tell there's nothing that really impacts how your character plays in the way that say haste does (lowering GCD / cooldowns for some classes, or the older (RIP) snapshotting increasing speed of dots) or for example crit on a fire mage, leading to instant pyroblasts). That's not to say the different stats don't affect your throughput etc. in different ways, just that that doesn't translate to much difference in a character's gameplay. There's so many things on the checklist of "things you need to do" from a wow players perspective. Skyshards / questing on top of lvling to unlock skills - eventually you'll have plenty, but even after 600 hours I'm nowhere near unlocking everything. Champion points, which are very confusing for a "new" player imo - Increasing seemingly infinitely. Archaeology or "antiquing" is, effectively, the same thing as wow but uhh, more difficult/complex. You go across the zone your in looking for a find, except its just an area on your map and you are hoping to actually see it -admittedly not too difficult - but in order to get to this you have to go through some kind of Bejeweled style minigame. Then when you get there, you have to click tiles to dig, using multiple mechanics. And there's skill bonuses, and bonus tools. And the reason all of this is important, is because there's (seemingly huge) player power tied to it with 1 piece set bonuses. There's the statues/altars that give permanent stat buffs, one at a time. Which brings up sets. There's a lot. Levelling this is cool, but end game it seemingly boils down to a handful (we're all familiar with meta, it exists everywhere no escaping it) of "viable" choices -- primarily magic based. This had little impact to most of my gameplay, I have an okay set that gives me crit rating when I'm attacking from in front and I've been solo questing for a lot, so thats most of the time. Group content, however, my build.. my character.. was basically useless. There's a few different battlegrounds, which you can randomly queue for (but seemingly not specifically) with slightly different game rules -- king of the hill, capture the flag, deathmatch, others?? -- but as with all PvP it usually boils down to which team kills which. PvP is quite different to WoW's because of the 3 teams but that isn't really that impactful... at least, not compared to the imbalance brought about by set gear and skill lines. Champion Point bonuses are disabled, but gear definitely isn't and the difference between some players and (for example) myself is insane. I have quite a few pieces that I have been given by doing PvP, and it has made no difference. My abilities deal maybe 1/20th of the damage they do in the open world, with no explanation given ingame... (Because no information is given in game by default. Not even the damage numbers), meanwhile other players are capable of 1 shotting reliably, consistently whilst being practically invincible. Constantly. Most games I've been in have basically been 8 or 9 out of 12 players with 1 or 2 assists or kills, whilst the remaining 2-3 have 30+. Again, I'm a WoW player - I know gear makes a solid difference in MMO PvP but I've experienced this level of disparity maybe 2 or 3 times (Classic AV scaled to 60 with bis timewalking gear comes to mind, practically soloing the entire enemy team... or Rextroy's exploits.) whereas this seems to just be commonplace. There's also Cyrodil, big ashran type PvP zone which I have no opinion on other than my opinion on battlegrounds in general. The dungeons are fine... There's some really cool boss fights. I don't know the name (I've tried to look but honestly I don't even know what dungeon it was in) but there was this one boss that would periodically fill the room with a whirlpool, spinning your character around the room, with little spouts you can use to leap up onto three platforms around the edge, killing adds to stop the whirlpool. Thematically I thought it was fantastic, genuinely the best combat experience I've had so far... But I didn't actually enjoy playing my character. I never really feel engaged with the abilities I'm using, mostly combat is just sort of... in the way of the story. There's also the gathering. If running around grabbing herbs etc. is your thing, ESO is great (or terrible idk really) because there's soooo much. There's plants like herbs, all kinds of them. There's ores for blacksmithing, and there's ores for jewelcrafting. You can chop some trees for wood for shields/staves/bows, and you can fish, cook, all that stuff. Each of them have skill lines, which cost the same skill points as combat based abilities, and stuff like thieving, or that (For me, at least***) painful archaeology system which means, especially early on, investing into crafting is gonna cost you power. There's alchemy which I have no clue, I have not interacted with it at all. And there's enchanting which I also haven't interacted with aside from salvaging materials from any the game gives me for a little bit of xp in the skill line and some stuff to sell to other players who care and know more about crafting systems. Point is gathering/crafting you have a lot to do and a lot to master. Even from someone that isn't interested in crafting, the idea of taking the stats on a weapon (Like critical hit chance) and research that to be able to make weapons of that type with that stat is pretty awesome. The cash shop is pretty horrendous though compared to WoW. Admittedly, you don't have to pay for subscription to access honestly an insane amount of content which is great for new players, but spend long enough and you'll soon realize the subscription is kinda forced on you by the crafting bag and limited bagspace. There's also all the "pay for convenience" / "pay to win" (depending on perspective) from xp scrolls - again, infinite post-max levelling so.. effectively you could always benefit from this to all the cosmetics you could imagine mounts, pets, dyes. to expansion packs and DLC to player owned housing often requiring "crowns", their shop currency. If you want to be competitive longterm, some of the DLC is basically mandatory whether it be the psychic(psijic?) skill line featuring some very stonk stuff, or the archaeology thing I mentioned with some very stronk set bonuses, or just various dungeons / sets in general. To be fair, you get most of this from getting the subscription - ESO plus - but even that doesn't stop the game popping up a shop advertisement every so often - often when entering delves/DLC areas. "Oh you have paid for ESO+ so you can access this zone, but you could still buy it for keeps!" the game reminds me. Oh and there's a mount upgrade system, you can upgrade your movement speed, stamina (horsey sprint duration) or bag space. I spent ages investing into movement speed, only to realize I'm faster sprinting than my horse... and inventory upgrade is just always useful. It takes a day between investing each point, costs a little ingame gold, and there's 180 points (60 for each) in total - but don't worry, you can buy those points on the cash shop. Potions, fast travel unlocks - admittedly, seemingly only once you have discovered them all already which is 'better than it could be' (For alt characters)

I liked ESO while I played it, it feels like a nice solo exploration MMO where you can bite into chunks of story at your own pace. I'm at a point where I want to play something more social and laid back, a lot of these modern MMOs feel lonely. While Everquest had a lot of problems, it really did well to give you a chill experience where you'd actually want to sit down and communicate with people. WoW was fun, but is a how fast can you press your buttons fest. Give me some downtime and a reason to want to group over solo.

People don't need weird sets in wow retail for leveling. You blaze through them, and that's what most people in retail want. MMOs need to address the leveling process in general, it should be removed from the adventuring and story of the game. People are too goal oriented for leveling to be what it was 20 years ago. FFXIV practically ignores gear outside of just ilvl upgrades from quests and dungeons and raids. It's not one of the complaints you hear from critics about the game though. The nostalgia of what you played with in yesteryear isn't what is missing from games today. It's invocation in a stagnant market, the same tired leveling process, that the majority of consumers just don't give two shits about
@madrox19892 жыл бұрын
Leveling is a mechanical system that has always been a thorny design in most digital games. Poor design/pacing at the core aside, what you are really observing are people's penchant to approach every videogame as an Action game. Part of the MMO-*RPG* experience is supposed to be about roleplaying and adventure lines. Roleplaying and character-choices-matter is what's not really pursued or even offered in games. Designers have swung the pendulum heavily towards Action, leaving the RPG fans behind, and leaving in a mechanical system that was meant to help distinguish a seasoned heroic warrior vs a straight out of the barracks warrior. Now what I find fascinating is this surge of interest in Survival games... Which tend to heavily lack on the storyline and action side, but empower and promote roleplaying and character-choices-matter philosophy. No wonder New World had such difficulty identifying what it wants to be.

I actually went back to Skyrim. I like the freedom of an RPG in games and Elder Scrolls online just don't really have it after you reach a certain level. Even world bosses become trivial. The only engaging content is vet dungeons and trials, which in my opinion, should have a solo option. I hate waiting on everyone to join, and definitely hate NEVER being able to hear a single dungeon or trial quest line story. It's always rushed. And unless you have a specific friend circle you run with that are on the same page, you're at the mercy of the playstyle of randoms that don't usually communicate, throw fits when you do something they don't like, or someone else does,(4 or 12 person groups), then leave. Something as stupid as an ad accidently being agroed. Then you're waiting again. And if waiting happens, people are prone to leave, thus ending with you having to reque for a dungeon. And any specific dungeons take significantly longer. I feel the player base can be so damned awful at times that everything in the game just needs a difficult solo option. I'd rather grind a single trial by myself if possible, for four hours, and enjoy it, then spend half an hour waiting for everyone, then have people get mad at some people that are underlevelled, or don't know the mechanics, or don't have strong enough gear, etc, etc. The fact that the game becomes largely an MMO at higher levels at the cost of pretty much almost all of the rpg aspects turns it into a bad job with horrible CO workers and an unreasonable boss, rather than a fun game that you can unwind to and enjoy. For this reason, I went back to Skyrim. I don't mind socializing, however, I also don't like social gameplay thrown down my throat as the only viable form of gameplay after such mediocre levels. The level cap is cp3600. You outgrow the environment well before you even hit any cp at all. The game is largely boring because of that. So much to do, but it's all too easy.

Going back to Skyrim was the answer, mmos need to lean back into what made them great and that was all the struggles you listed as inconveniences. Mmo devs try to satisfy people who want an mmo, and people who want a Skyrim/Witcher/Zelda single player game with a shared world. It doesn’t work, trying to give you Skyrim with friends alongside an mmo, and most mmos will not cater to an mmo audience and they feel dry and lukewarm.

I was a long time ESO player for more than 5 years but sadly I stopped playing it and so far I see no point in returning in a near future. The various content this game offers is really wide but they expand on it very rarely. For example one of the things I enjoyed the most were the end-game raids and dungeons. To some that would like to know more, let me emphasise on it a bit. Without mentioning the inconsisency of the servers, I found it harder later on to keep on attempting for the triple achievements because they got less and less rewarding. Sometimes all you got was a title with the exception of some trials/dungeons, as an example is a trial called kyne's aegis. This trial gives you only the title (which later were set to be account shared, so there was no reason for doing that again, thus killing that part of the progression). There is also a skin in game that's called "Kyne's fury" which instead of being added as a reward was added for purchase in crown store. The only excuse for that I've encountered was that they need money to survive. The source of their money should be from the dlc's filled with skins for such achievements not for dlc's and store as well. You won't get any furniture to display in your house that you've achieved the trifecta either. (I don't count mounts, imagine if you got those big statues to house for every trifecta you get, for example - Scalecaller Peak - Peryite, The Taskmaster, Sunspire - Kaalgrontiid’s Ascent, Rockgrove - Statue, Prince of Ambition.. the list goes on and on). This small change would already make it a bit more rewarding. But this just scratches the surface. This brings me to the my other content that I used to like in ESO - housing. You can buy a house with a pre-set number of furniture slots which is doubled once you purchase the eso plus trial. And since the time I started playing the game, until my end, they added 1 update to the housing - companion and pathing. 1 update in 5 years? They have a ton of nice feature requests from the community and yet they decide to bring nothing new. For me personally I would like, if they added some terraforming tool so that you can shape the ground to your liking, move pre-made structures etc. Increase the number of items (why is the limit so small and some of the houses so big that you can't even furnish half the thing). And this are only some mistakes, out of many and yet they keep it on running the game following the same overworn pattern. I just watched a video about new world making monumental changes to the games core and giving an expansion for free so that they get the player base which made a smile on my face. The way I see it is that NW is a new game that is trying really hard to stand out as a good MMO (not yet there, but as shown they are trying). And here we have ESO which's player base is dying (large margin of the end game community is long gone) and the devs just keep it the same. There seem to be a lack of creativity and thinking out of the box as they were when the game came out and thrived for a couple of year. I am silenty just checking on the state of the game every now and then if by some miracle drastic changes are made but so far I stay dissapointed. If you managed to get all the way here, don't hesitate and leave your thoughts down below in the comments, I will be happy to share my own opinion as well as see a different one.

The graphics in this game still look terrible. They should have been able to enhance them by now.

I understand the role plaything. I do the same thing with my characters. I want them all related or connected somehow. I like to pretend that they are avatars who are aware that they are avatars. They are Sims who are aware that they are Sims. They are not good or evil. They are simply there to fulfill their purpose. They can be assassins, thieves, kings or slaves. It doesn't matter. They are a secret order like the Blades. But no one knows about them. They are kind of like the Men in Black. They don't chase aliens or anything like that. But they kind of exist like that. You may have heard about them through legend or rumor. They maybe someone like the Hero of Kvatch. But they don't know exactly who that person is. They only know what has been reported. They only know the fraction of what they heard or saw. Even if someone saw you face to face, they don't know the whole story. Think of how many celebrities we don't really know. They are essentially an image that they want to portray. But we don't really know who they are. Many will be forgotten over time. Do you remember who was famous at the turn of the century or in the 1920s. How about kings? How many kings have been forgotten over time? In America, we have many famous sayings and quotes like, "It's a piece of cake.". Yet, the average person doesn't even know where that phrase came from. So, my characters use this to their advantage. They are among the many secrets in the Elder Scrolls world and that's just how I like to make it work. I like to use role play as a way to explain things and keep things immersive for me.

So the thing about eso is where it shines is endgame. The early game is very opposite of endgame and a part I find super boring and unrewarding. Nothings evek a little difficult until you go for challenges in four man and 12 man content. I put this in another video, but the thing that people really make teams and push for it titles, and mounts. Those are the rewards from the hardest content, as well as scores on a leaderboard who can do it fastest. The way they market the game is far from the real good parts. Housing might be an interests for you too. It’s a massive part of the game with endless customization. You won’t really get a feel for the game unless you invest a little more time, it’s not as easy to jump into like wow is.

The game is super hybridized now and you can combine stam/ mag builds together which ads some dynamic gameplay. The classes are also super bor ng till you’re champion and you actually have nice skills to use, which are typically towards the end of a skill tree. Also questions in this game is nothing compared to rewards of later content. This is something I wish all new players knew coming in.

Look into light attack weaving and search some eso videos from people like skinny cheeks, or just a red sofa. It makes the combat more fleshed out
