I got my friend to start playing WoW the other day (he's never played before) and we first started playing modern WoW. He made a worgen rogue and I made a hunter, we grouped together and just speed quested without any difficulty (We probably only died 2 or 3 times). Within about 4 hours we reached level 20 and by this point we had collected some pretty decent gear (lot of blues and greens with the odd epic upgrade), had earnt about 2-3 gold, and we also bought some ground mounts. It was at this point I suggested we try out classic WoW so he could compare the two and see which one he preferred more. He made a troll warrior and i made a shaman, and after about 4 hours of game played we are level 8, have no green items, have about 8 silver each and he had already died a bunch of times trying to solo the zalazane quest on echo isles. When we logged off I asked him which one he preferred and he hands down said classic. It was more challenging, rewarding and doesn't feel like your having your hand held the entire time. He also thought that you had to save your money so you could buy new skills was cool and the fact you actually had to READ quests so you knew where to go made it more immersive. I am a vanilla player but I couldn't agree more with what he's saying, modern WoW is far too easy until you reach max level (then it gets harder) but there's no real challenge leveling from 1-120 and it gets boring very quickly even if your spamming dungeons. You can solo quest all the way through until 120 and probably dont need any help killing the harder mobs so asking people for help is not necessary because your character is already very strong and your constantly getting better gear. Because of this the social aspect of the game dies in this area and the leveling experience can feel very lonely and tedious. All in all both versions are enjoyable in different ways, but if you want the true WoW experience then classic is deffs the way to go

I have heard a lot about wow classic, even my dad played back then and everybody was like ”I can’t wait bla bla bla” and I thought that it sounded stupid but let me tell you about my experience! I created a female, human, rogue. I couldn’t kill mobs! There wad players everywhere so I was like ok this is stupid but then I got a mace that didn’t fit my class and I traded it to a paladin and he actually responded with a ”thx” - I have never felt so good in my life! There was this one guy u had to kill for a quest and everybody wanted to kill him so we made a line so that everyone would be able to kill him! In my 2 hours of classic wow I have never been so social, I love it!

Had an epic RP/gameplay moment in Bloodsail Buccaneers server. I am a Human but I like to level in Teldrassil. I also took up herbalism and so I was after herbs. I snagged one from this Night Elf Druid called Moonglie. I got 2 peaceblooms. I promptly apologised and gave her one of the peaceblooms. She then proceeded to lecture my Human, telling me how the forests are not mine... I was taken aback! And she huffed off. Eventually we ended up meeting again an hour later in the nearby town, she recognised me and apologised. I explained to her how Teldrassil is my home to me, and the significance of Kaldorei culture is to which she was taken aback. We parted again on good terms and ended up running into each other another hour later. She gave me a potion which would later be responsible for saving my life when I was fighting level 7 furbolgs, I gave her something in return, forgot what it was... But the experience was amazing! I like to think that we will meet again throughout our travels and that we will continue helping one another in a small way! Anyway, that was my Classic starting experience!

When I started there was a level 3 Tauren druid sitting in the Deathknell crypt who would Mark of the Wild everyone that started moving, would give them a personal "Welcome home, " and then dance with you. This was honestly one of the most wholesome moments I have ever had playing WoW.

I would like to say, that for me? It has been amazing. I love this game, always did. And it always did hurt me to see what happened over the years. I still look back to my fondest memories back in Vanillia, BC, and Wrath of the lich king. And I am so glad, that this was finally released. Classic, that is. I never wanted to play on a private server. I wanted to support blizzard. A company which I still care for. I just hope, that they will manage to find their way back now. To focus on what it is that matters.

Dumbing down WoW for casuals was their mistake, i liked hardcore playing. Tried BFA for free...was bored, too easy and brainless unless you do a lot of endgame. I didnt give 2 shits about endgame i want the leveling process and growing.

Favorite part of the community so far is just chilling out with everyone on the server in gen chat. I never participated in gen chat on the retail servers (because 80% of it was ALWAYS either gold sellers or guild ads) and it's just a small thing but it's nice to see gen chat full of nice conversation, groups for dungeons/quests/the occasional item sell advert. It feels like you don't really need to be in a group because we're all just taking part of this massive event together and it's a lot easier and more fun to engage with the whole server than I thought it would be (and that's with my expectations being pretty high already)

I never said it was "just nostalgia", but I did say nostalgia played a big factor in it being as popular as it is. That said, I've a level 16 Dwarf Rogue on the US RP server and I will admit Classic's a lot more fun than I expected it to be. Then again, I had expectations as low as the Titanic's current depth, so I was very pleasantly surprised.

One thing I keep wondering about, is that Classic is meant to stay as it is right now, isn't it? Only vanilla, lv cap 60 etc. So I wonder, what will happen in say, 5 years, and all players have lv capped and been playing the same content for so long? Will it still be as fun then, or does it get old and people drop out? I'm curious to see what will happen.

I'm playing over on Bloodsail. Honestly this experience has been so great. Clearing Deadmines with the guildies was great, half my gear broke after our second wipe so I just tossed on some grey gear and kept tanking. The community and memories are undeniably amazing.

I am not excusing people that use the "just nostalgia" argument, but wasn't it obvious that on the first days Classic would have this boom? Since Classic was announced streamers and players have hyped up Classic to the max, but besides that. Every game in history has its peak of logged in players in its first months/year and then the population drops until it stabilizes. Classic being Classic and being WoW it's obvious that it would have such a boom compared to any game. I am not someone who is anti-Classic, not even close, I just don't care about it. I want Classic to succeed, so don't interpret what I say wrong, but everyone who tries to use Classic's initial boom as an argument are kind of deluded. Every new MMORPG gets its most players at launch, at some point the population drops and stabilizes into its real population. Classic won't be an exception and the population it has these first days won't be the same next year.

Yeah, I feel like when this massive hype settles down, vast majority of the people will remember how incredibly time consuming vanilla wow is and most of them will drop it. Because, let's be real, classic wow won't be getting any new/younger players that never played WoW before, this is mostly the same playerbase that wanted vanilla to return and I doubt those people have as much free time as they had 14-15 years ago.

People Will end up leaving and joining the game for many number of reasons. People acting like this boom of players at realease means anything and already throwing shade against the other side of the argument is idiotic. Tbh, I became fed up with the Classic vs Retail argument. It's like arguing about food tastes. Makes no sense to me.

exeterra I actually have to say you’re wrong - I know a lot of young players who already prefer Classic over Retail because they are not as confused on what to do ironically, even though retail has been made to make it more simpler, instead they’ve just overconfused it - and even if the online players does drop down, most likely, more people will play classic until the next expansion comes out - and even then from the great reactIon Classic got, Blizzard will most likely make changes or add more legacy servers - I guess you prefer BFA and how boring it is, but each to his own.

I actually want classic to be a success and it would be amazing if classic gets brand new players, but I just feel like people are looking at this through nostalgia glasses while remembering how magical this game was 14 years ago when we all started playing for the first time, and that that feeling is going to slowly fade away. I was someone who started in Legion and ever since i heard of the old class quest i've been wanting to play classic and i wasn't disappointed at all i love how i have to earn my warlock pets. One of my best experiences so far was just heading in to the Barrens and asking a Tauren for directions to Thunder Bluff to get staff training.

I logged on to my server about 45 minutes before lunch and there was a very tiny Q. Which my guildmates that I promptly informed found out got longer every minute. Next day I tell my girlfriend to log me in. She gets home about two hours before I do. So she does it about 3 to 3:30 my time calls me and says that there's a queue I say yeah I figured and just make sure to spend my character or something when it goes in I get home around 5 5:30 ish 16000 Q. 10:30 at night dip in the hundreds. Have to go to sleep because I wake up at 5:30. It's rough mate

I was feeling a bit frustrated with having to run everywhere and the amount of times I'd died, and no quest tracking.... And then I hit level 10 after 4 and a half hours and actually cheered out loud, and the feeling of satisfaction made me realise why I love this game

I've seen something like this in MoP, when everyone went pandaren at the start, but this time it's like 8 times as many people! There won't be as many people staying, yeah, but I do believe there WILL be quite more than bfa. In fact, it would be quite funny if blizzard realeased a new xpac for wow, just for the players to play for like 2 days and then going back to Classic lol.

That’s not true for me. I’m enjoying Classic more than I did at BFA launch. The game design makes you play in two totally separate ways. I much prefer classic. BFA felt more like a pointless grind with gutted professions. Once you got through the story there wasn’t much left except for raids and mythic plus dungeons. You didn’t have to worry about helping or offending anybody because who cares you’re never going to see them again unless they’re in your guild. Oh and that gear that you just got you don’t care about it and if you do care it’ll be short-lived because catch-up mechanics will make it irrelevant. For some people none of this matters but for other people it’s the whole point of playing in the first place.

I didn't log in until about 2-3 hours after release, and all I saw were cows as far as the eye could see. And I have been having so much fun playing my Tauren Druid. I love that everything feels like an accomplishment again, and that even a gray item can be an amazing upgrade. It would be great to play with Nixxiom, but I am not the greatest PvP player, so I guess I will just enjoy the videos. :)

WeirdWeeb that’s disappointing. That was the whole reason at least half of his subscribers came here. I stay because sometimes Nixxiom makes interesting content every now and then, but Machinimas were pretty much what made me stay.

I was too little to play vanilla wow when it first came out, so I'm super excited to be able to play it now! From my first experiences, it's been really nice to feel excited about gaining one level or getting a piece of green gear with +1 Intellect. I've also enjoyed the group aspect of it, there was one time where someone else was in the same room as me killing kobolds and asked me if I wanted to group up right after! It was great.

I found out how many new priests are struggling and not aware how wand is crucial to them , i bought 5 wands, and once i saw priest without it. I gave them wand and explaned how easy it can be for them to level. Was to get messages later howni changes their gameplay

I'm just glad I can play the version of the game that I've heard soo much about, and it seems amazing. Takes me back to the good ol' mmo days (haven't played classic back in the day, but other mmos that had a rather similar feel)

Man, now I gotta try classic. I only joined late Lich King but I think I might enjoy classic. I’m horde on the current expansion so I think I’ll try alliance in classic to see what their zones are like.

I'm horde on retail too, and the horde zones and quests are completely different in classic. I highly recommend giving both a try. :)

First day on Pagle was great. Northshire Abbey was swamped with people, but basically no lag at all, barring a slight delay when looting. A line formed to kill Garrick, and for the most part, people were honoring the spirit of the queue. A few people were even acting as organizers, calling up the next group to get kill credit and so forth. Had pretty bad luck in terms of good loot drops, but did find 2 bags and a friendly tailor made me another one since I had the linen for it, so didn't have to cut into my savings to pay for bags. Leaving for Westfall now at Lvl 13 with a shiny new Copper Battle Axe I just made for myself, feeling pretty good. Someone in general chat just reminded us all to drink water and stay hydrated. This is the spirit of vanilla that all the nay-sayers insisted wouldn't be, and yet it's here. Love it!

Sadly i think the sheer flooding of the classic servers show how hungry players are for good content. For a game that REALLY feels like an mmorpg and for everything they can't seem to get in beta for azeroth. I hope Bliztard learns something for the following expansions

Doddlen Doddel that argument isn’t valid yet. People are playing because they want to try it out, not because they enjoy it. Give it a month and if there are still mass amounts of people playing, then that argument is valid.

@@KC-py5vq Yeah, i'll give you that. That's true. But still, if you compare that "social" part of classic to retail wow, it is just ridiculous. Like for example one of the very few social contacts (if u wanna call it so) in retail wow is, when you join a group to kill a worldboss, don't say anything and just leave the group once you're done. Hope that makes any sense, english isn't my main language tho. Greetings from germany btw

I can feel this sentiment. Grouped up with some people on the initial quest chain (Durotar) for Sark. About 2 hours later, ran into and grouped up again, then 3 hours later they formed a guild. Just people that grouped up, now a guild. And random people trading stuff to you in the world because they don't need it and they know you do. Druids, Priests, and Mages just buffing people they come across in the wild. People trading cloth, not in a group, and trading goods back (gear, bags, etc...). Overnight the elitist, every day d-bag, people kind of dried up. Hopefully, they stay back in their cave, but yes, people just helping people in the world just because. Oh, that mage pulled two, *charge* and kill the other one. You wave, they wave, and off you go to only see each other in a new zone later.

It's my first time playing WoW Classic and I'm having a lot of fun, people helping each other, talking just about how hard it is to kill murlocs when they just group and you have to run for your life!! It's awesome, a friend gave me my first green, also a linen robe and I gave him some healing potions. I must say I died a lot of times but it was fun.

My experience was full of meme trolls. Alliance experience was pretty boring and people treating the game like a competition despite it being a PvE server. Best time was making the Wetlands run again, passing people and us buffing each other. But I have yet to experience anything I’d call a community yet. Ironically there’re too many people. Nobody stands out so yet no connections are being made yet. I have a break in service from work in a couple weeks so I’ll commit more to the game then.

Today I realised that ... I felt like it was survival out here in the leveling world. I had to plan my potions empty my bags to make sure I can bring back the most, I had to make sure I had all the quests needed and Im not forgeting anything. Conjured food , an extra crafted bag or some potions make a big difference. When I see someone having hard time with a mob or trying to run away from one Im helping him out because I know its a pain to walk back to your corpse. In a way the game feels like it is a survival MMO.

I’ve been leveling my Troll Mage and anytime I pass people I give them a stack of 10 or 20 conjured water and buff em with Arcane Intellect. I can’t remember his name but there was an Orc Warrior I passed back on the stress test who gave me a green robe after a gave him a green sword. Shout outs to that awesome Orc. I’m so hyped to keep leveling and passing out my food and water in the future. Keep having fun and stay safe adventurers!!!!! For the Horde!!

So some of my guildies and I did our first attempt at at RFC. I tamed The Rake on my Hunter and everything went smoothly. We got up to a point where we dropped off a ledge. Everyone was waiting for me to drop down and before anyone could say anything. I hot keyed dismiss pet and dropped down. We had a good ass laugh about being a huntard. It was such a fun run because we had so many close calls but we all worked together and made it through. This is the kind of fun and excitement I have been missing for so long. Its glad to be back in classic wow.
