Most of comments here are from Hyungsik fans. But Siwan not only sings but plays violin, a very difficult instrument to play, and he does it very well. And a fine actor, too. And though I like Hyungsik as actor, too, and as singer, in this one he could do better. As I’ve heard him sing in other video clips. His Missing You duets with other singers, or even solo, are so much better😘🤗

Yuki no Hana is one of my favourite J-pop songs despite not listening to much J-pop. So I know the original very well and I heard all the other covers in different languages much later. Truthfully, I'm not feeling this arrangement, and I don't think it's due to Hyung Sik only because Siwan could have done his part differently and made the harmony of violin and vocal better. I looked up a random youtuber violinist (HanniXie) that played the same song as a comparison to try and explain why I feel the arrangement is lacking. One thing I noted is the key is lower here which is fine because a male vocalist would not usually sing at the original female key but the violin does sound better in a higher key. The second reaon why I might not be feeling it is the lack of vibrato at the end of each line when Siwan plays it in the first part. He does use it starting around 2:14 and a lot near the end without the background music, but I think he should have started from the beginning. The youtuber used the vibrato throughout and it makes a difference to the musical expression and dynamics and to give an airy sound. Siwan did play very well once he added the vibrato until the awkward transition. The main reason why I don't like the arrangement is the awkward transition between violin and vocal. So far, the notes Siwan played are all mostly on point except the part around 4:14 which sounds like there were 3 extra notes at the end instead of ending at 4:13, which affected Hyung Sik's vocal entrance. It sounds like Hyunsik came in at a weird part, like he was unprepared coming in the middle of a sustained note from the violin, but he was coming in at the right part according to background instrumental. Also, the background music does build up with more flutes? strings? at 4:12 to 13 and then softens to a rest but Siwan played the violin past this, so it clashes with Hyung Sik's voice. That's why this sounds so jarring to me because the current arrangement doesn't make sense. I think the extra 3 notes work if they modify the background instrumental to start playing after the 3 notes before Hyung Sik's part comes in since that is how the music was written with a crescendo of the long note into softness (almost to a pause), soft vocals start, then enters the piano and then buildup in volume again with vocals and violin. Personally, I think a better arrangment is to have the vocals started at 3:44 because that part is the climax of the song and ends on a long sustained note. Then the softeness Hyung Sik starts with will make more sense in this context. Ignoring the awkward transition, I thought Hyung Sik's vocals were fine maybe lacking the room to do proper volume/dynamic changes for a short part. Also the violin was too loud when it came back in at around 4:35, so it covered up/reduced the impact of all the phrasing and dynamics Hyung Sik used in his singing. If I really focus on just his voice only, he sounds fine. I liked the way he handled some of the ending notes like where he sang "Shiawase ga afuredasu" at 4:28, though I wished some of the ending notes are slightly louder like at 4:35 and 4:52 (but I think it has to do with Siwan's violin being too loud). But that part is the hardest part of the song and when I had to sing it, I would sometimes go into falsetto to try to reach it in the original key. At least his notes are sustained and doesn't sound like it's on the verge of cracking so that's a plus from me. Not sure what else he could do better other than increase the emotional dynamics and reduce the sound of his breath going into the microphone.

Of course u can compare. Henry is classically trained in a very high grade of violin, playing heavily ornamented stuff. Siwon may also be trained but not for as many years or at that high a grade. It's just like comparing singing right? That doesn't reduce THEiR personal value or the songs value. Which btw we should be talking about how beautiful that piece was???? I'm sure Siwon is mature and aware enough that he knows he's not a professional violinist. But I'd still listen to Siwons violin, because it also belongs to him as a skill and it's quite fun. It feels like a lot of effort was put into the performance for us fans. Which is always nice. why even worry about the skill, the song is beautiful. A lot of composers ALSO InfAct use rough textured violin playing like siwons for added effect in their compositions. Because it's not really about technique and quality, it's about musicality. It just happens that technicality and musicality coincide often. But Some singers are technically amazing but It does not mean I will enjoy them. So yes you can compare the two, don't be sensitive about someone saying siwons playing isn't of the same technical level as Henry's. It's unfair to Henry who has probably been practicing that instrument since he was learning the alphabet.
