Bake your A&H baking soda for an hour which leaves you with sodium carbonate then do your math again, by far the best value with equal does and just an hour of time for 15 month use. Great video

I have been using the brs bulk calcium and alk for going on 2 years and I just mixed my first batch of pharma grade soda ash. I noticed the difference instantly in the way it mixes much faster and I haven't seen any residue settle to the bottom like I did with the old stuff. This is a great series! Thanks for everything you do for the community!

But they have bulk NAHCO3 aswell, isnt that what you tested here? Or that could be for the european market only ofcourse..i didnt think about that. Atleast here it comes in 8 pounds packs.

Unfortunately, I lack a little perspective on the impact of the amount of impurities. For example, does a difference of .1 ppm mercury between products matter if the "best" salt I use adds 100 ppm?
@orenepstein376 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info guys! My question is how did you chose the 56 gram in 1 liter concentration? Is this the maximum amount that doesn't precipitate and does that change for the different products? I want to know the maximum concentration without precipitate for the sea Chem reef builder I'm using. So far I'm always getting some precipitate and it just bugs me.

I’ve been using aquaforest products for 18 months, recently switched back to esv bionic, my Red Sea reefer 425 mixed reef tank, around 30sps corals , I was dosing 120 ml a day using aqua forest components, also one tsp per 5 gallon of kalkwasser in my ato to help with the alk consumption, before the kalk I was at 130ml a day, because of cost and my own experiment, switching to esv I’m only dosing 25 ml a day for the same demand and no more kalk, only been a few weeks but zero negative effects, I’m assuming that those components are pretty weak, but what is funny is that I was dosing component 3 which is magnesium and salts etc, three weeks without dosing any magnesium and my level hasnt dropped at all, makes me wonder what was in that container in the first place?

Great video Ryan! I use kalkwasser for primary calcium and alkalinity, currently the BRS grade. For manual adjustments, I need very little so I use Seachem Reef Fusion. I need so little for manual adjustments that its just easier to pour out the bottle and the costs aren’t significant.

The majority of the soda ash in the world is used for glass making. There are 4 or 5 companies that make it in Green River Wyoming, and for glass making at least, they are all basically interchangeable. I would be very interested in how different this is from Pharma grade.
@JesseTheK6 жыл бұрын
BulkReefSupplyCom , I honestly don’t know what what you mean by the Light Version. Soda Ash is just sodium carbonate (Na2CO3). The particle size of what you sell is nearly the same as what I use at work for glass making. I would not be at all surprised if yours came from Green River as well if it’s sourced from the US. Thank you for doing this test though. I will continue to use your product, as I’m not willing to send my own out for ICP, and it’s not worth the risk to my tank to go blindly. Keep doing what you’re doing. You guys are great!

First, you guys rock. Second, you mentioned the data would be available in the description, it isn't. Third, how is grading determined? Pharma grade vs Food grade vs tech grade? What about pool supplements, would those be closer to tech grade? than food grade? Maybe closer to food grade since you immerse yourself in water? Lastly, sorry for all the comments, something that would have been really good is to actually state the alkalinity of your sample, I know you said you need to add 60% more for bicarb to get the same result, but that would have been good info just to see how close to true it is.

Like the video as I have only one mix left of my soda ash and have been debating about the options. If I were to go baking soda I would be cooking it into soda ash again for the PH gains as it auto doses at night. I'm still not sure what I want to do though.

Nice video. I've been using ATI's 3 part with trace elements for about 6 months trying to do the zero water change approach. It was a disaster. The ATI supps are fine, but my tank did horribly without water changes, and I lost several corals. I'll be going back to BRS bulk and frequent water changes.

Great content yet again, you need a facility in the UK though? I've been using food grade sodium bicarbonate on my Juwel Trigon 190 litre with no sump for over year now along with dosing Brightwell Calcion and Magnesion. I used the BRS products for years. I switched to Triton after talking to those guys at MACNA last year. I will be coming back to BRS. There have been a lot of issues with Tritons packaging and availability. It's not a bad product I do see way better polyp extension and less water changes are a plus but it definitely is not the most cost effective. I could only wish there was a solution that combined the best of BRS and Triton. Maybe if BRS added a fourth part to their line with pharmaceutical grade trace elements and make this all so easy... hint hint.
@rglewis496 жыл бұрын
Arrick L take a look at fauna marin balling light. Its not a part 4, you add it to the BRS mixes! BRS has a video on it of course. Ive been using it for a few months now and it has actually done a better job at keeping trace consistant than Triton and ATI did.

You need to share the names of the companies rather than "Aquarium 1" . Simply for the sake of accountability and that is in truth the most important aspect here.. If it isn't up to snuff it becomes common knowledge, and that is important if we are going to receive a good product from every company. Setting a standard if you will.... Nobody should be free of that. Especially since we all know anyone and everyone is slapping attractive labels and slogans with popular bright colors on bottles to make a sale. The 99.999% of people who tuned in here would expect to know which brand is looking out for us and which brand is pulling one over. That is assuming BRS is telling the truth, and based on everything BRS I have ever watched, they are great at putting science to the test to debunk many things. That is how you have the loyal customers that you do. My .2 cents anyway :)

I really love these videos and have learned tons from you guys, but this video seems to lean in brs favor. Don't most use sodium bicarb? And the brs calculator seems to be pushing people towards your products lately. I bought your sodium bicarb this go round, but this video makes me question it. How much contaminate can baking soda pick up in your oven?

Well I’m kinda glad arm & hammer baking soda is just as good as the BRS soda cause I’ve been using A&H for around 3 years with no ill effect. After a few years in this hobby you try to save $$$ any way you can just to keep it going that’s why I switched to Arm & Hammer baking soda. I hope you test salt water pool additives like calcium booster specifically made for saltwater swimming pools. There’s some local reefers in my community that use it. I am skeptical about using something made for your swimming pool in my reef tank.
@jeffhurckes1906 жыл бұрын
If this is ever revisited, could someone test A&H Baking Soda that has been heated to 200C for a few hours? This drives off CO2 and converts the sodium bicarbonate to sodium carbonate.
