The fact that you can hear how her voice breaking during the last "he says we have a connection" is heartbreaking. Like she has been through so much and just thinks she has finally found a man who actually values her as a friend, only for him to repeat the same words she's been hearing from the men who hurt her in the past.

The meaning of this song, to those that are curious. If you have watched SIX the musical, you know that its about the 6 wives of Henry the VIII, a previous King of England. The singer here is portraying as Kathryn Howard, the 5th wife of Henry. Her whole life she was used by men, one of those men being Henry. All she wanted was love, all she wanted was someone to love her genuinely and not for her body. So then when her friend Thomas (aka the last person to take advantage of her) and her was caught by Henry, she was sentenced to death by beheading despite her not doing anything wrong. She died at the mere age of either 18-19. All because she was r@p3d and s3xu@lly abused her whole life: childhood was taken away from her. Thats why y'all shouldn't use this song when you wanna introduce your new partner.

This song has NO business being such a bop when it’s so sad.
@ihopeicanchangethisnamelat71082 жыл бұрын
I’m really late but… I think that’s the point. At the start, she’s just a little kid, and she has no idea how horrific the things she’s going through are or the gravity of what Mannox is doing to her. The song is light-hearted and fun; she is enjoying the attention and being treated like she’s grown up. Then it slowly gets more serious; she’s older, starting to understand what’s happening. At this point she’s talking about Dereham, who she was speculated to actually be in love with (in a non-grooming way). Then after that goes wrong, she’s capable of looking after herself more, and she finds herself a place where she can live without needing a man (in the musical version, she talks about focussing on her career and her dad getting her a job in court. I *think* historically that was her uncle but same difference). She finds a place that she’s comfortable and safe and then there’s the part about Henry deciding he wants her. ‘Then he starts saying all this stuff’ just sounds like a confused little girl, and at this point it becomes clear the extent to which her childhood sexual abuse affected her. ‘I guess it’s not so different’: she believes and accepts that this is all her life has amounted to, being used as a sex object by men more than twice her age, and why does it matter if it happens again? It’s not like it can get any worse than it was before. And she’s more powerless now than ever before. Before, when her ‘relationships’ were discovered, the men got sent away, the adults around her were always in some sort of power and she always had, at least the illusion of, relative safety. But now she’s facing the literal king; he can do what he wants to his wives and he’s never hesitated to do so in the past. She is completely helpless in comparison to him. Then she talks about her life as queen, and how she is treated like she is only needed to satisfy Henry; her only value to anyone at this point is sex. At the age of maybe 15-17. Then she starts to trust Culpepper, feeling like someone finally respects her and sees her as a person rather than a beautiful object of sexual desire. She’s so unreasonably happy about this one platonic friendship, because she’s never really been given a chance to have this kind of relationship, especially not with a man who had no reason to value her as anything other than sex appeal, the same as everyone else. And then he does exactly the same thing as every other man in her life, word for word with the ‘connection’ and all, and she loses all hope of ever being treated like a human. And then the song turns into a full-on mental breakdown, asking when will it stop and why did she ever have enough faith in the world to trust other people so many times. And ‘All you wanna do’ takes on a new meaning here: before it was just another way of saying ‘I’m so hot and that makes you want…’ but at this point it’s ‘the *only thing* you want’. She’s finally recognising that no one values her because of who she is or the genuinely sweet and intelligent person she seems to be because they only care about f*cking her. And right before the song starts, she was using the fact that all these men found her attractive as an insult towards Anna of Cleves, and it’s at this point in the song that that stops being her biggest asset in getting the life she dreams of and starts being the thing that makes her hate her life and, (not) eventually (enough), ends it. And by now the song is no longer such a bop. But still a bit. She’s still a kid, she was 19 when Henry had her killed. And she’s still singing and playing along the same way she did when it all started. It’s the same thing really. In the musical, she’s screaming through the last chorus, and the song ends with her standing alone in darkness, sobbing. There used to be a really good bootleg on KZbin of this song where the audience just sat in uncomfortable silence and the only sound was just her crying before the lights turned on and she started talking brightly about how she died. But she always finishes the song, and follows the tune even when she’s staggering around the stage, crying as she tries to stop the other queens grabbing and touching her. Same as how, in history, she just kept following the cycle because the only way she knew how to live was to keep letting herself be used by one man after another, no matter how much pain she was in. Anyway, I’m really sorry about writing so much in a reply, my original intention was just to write something like ‘yeah it represents how innocent she was and how she didn’t understand it because she was just a child’ and it kind of escalated. My English teacher would be proud.

Yeah you can hear her voice trail away on the fourth “we have a connection” cuz she realised that every man just wants her for her body. Poor Catherine. The Tudor times must have been rough for these queens, I can’t imagine how picky Henry probably was, he said yes to Anne of Cleves when he saw her portrait but then rejected her when she came to his place. He cut off Boleyn’s head because she didn’t birth the right gender, and he sent Aragon to a nunnery for no reason.

For anyone who does not know this musical it’s called six and it’s based on the 6 wives of Henry the viii and this song is Katherine Howard’s who was the 5th wife to him and was also the cousin to Anne Boleyn Henry’s 2nd wife this song starts out as “all the guys think I’m hot” to a horrifying realization about a teenage girls sexual exploitation and abuse by several men Henry mannox was Katheryn’s music teacher when she was little he molested her Francis Derham was Katherine’s step grandma’s assistant she was called the dowager duchess it was thought that Katherine and Derham were actually in love and even called themselves husband and wife and planned to get married but the dowager duchess found out and sent Francis away. Henry the viii was Katherine’s husband she was around either 17 or 18 when she married him and he was in his 50’s and had a leg injury that was oozing of slime and he was very obese Thomas Culpepper was actually Katherine’s and Anne’s distance cousin Culpepper became infatuated with Katherine but it was speculated that they never had an affair and only met only for political reasons but many say she did have an affair with him and thus led to the allegations against Katherine and both Culpepper and Francis were executed Culpepper by beheading and Francis was drawn and quartered and a few months later on February 13th 1542 Katherine Howard met Anne Boleyn’s same fate and she was Beheaded Also fun fact no one actually knows how her name is actually spelled it is either Katherine,Catherine or,Katheryn

5:51 Is just so sad, you can hear the exact moment her heart breaks. "I thought this time was different/Why did I think he'd be different/But it's never, ever different!" The way she berates herself for thinking it'd be different is just so upsetting to me, and I don't know if this was intentional or not but it sounds a lot like gaslighting. That telltale victim-blaming mentality that sadly often accompanies abuse and/or sexual assault. I should know, I was abused myself (albeit not sexually abused, but I was physically and verbally abused as a child). I still struggle with a bit of a guilt-complex, I often feel unworthy and get angry at myself for being "weak" and "burdening others". My depression certainly doesn't help this, they say often people with depression suffer unreasonable guilt and shame. But as they say, I suppose, the first step to overcoming is acknowledging you have a problem...
@4pensword42 жыл бұрын
As someone who HAS been sexually harassed/assaulted, yes, I have had the EXACT thoughts “I thought he was different/why did I think he’d be different”, etc. Self-blame is one of the most common responses to SA and child abuse.

@@4pensword4 I'm so sorry to hear that, I hope you are doing better nowadays. Yes, exactly, that is one of the most common responses to SA and child abuse unfortunately, and abuse in general. @4pensword42 жыл бұрын
@@RainbowEssence-c3w I mean, I generally don't want to die, so I'm doing better than I was back then. The self-blame is a really common reflex in these situations whether or not gaslighting/persistent abuse was present. In a really messed up way, I think it's your mind trying to get back some control. But instead of "I can do x to prevent this from happening (again)", it becomes "if I hadn't done x, this awful thing wouldn't have happened". It becomes "I can control what's going to happen" instead of being powerless at a turbulent person's whim. But that strategy backfires spectacularly.
@RainbowEssence-c3w2 жыл бұрын

Ok, so no one is talking about the meaning, so I will. If you are here from TikTok and still don't get it, you might wanna read this. She was groomed from a young age (as many girls were back then), essentially being raped numerous times and groomed to think that was love. She finally is content with her life, but the king wants her and you can't say no to the king or you'll die. So she does (and is obviously not excited about it), and thinks maybe, just maybe, she's finally found a guy she can trust and be friends with who won't hurt her (spoiler alert: he does). This whole song is really deep and emotional, talking about grooming and losing trust in men over time 𝘧𝘳𝘰𝘮 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘦𝘳𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘣𝘦𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘳𝘰𝘰𝘮𝘦𝘥. I.. just found out that the musical this song came from was... about Henry the VIII of England and his wives? I had a suspicion cause his name randomly appeared but then went to the comments and found out what SIX the Musical is about. I thought the musical would be your typical drama movie but.. Henry the VIII and his wives??? That's a surprise... Damn I might not be able to focus on class now

People look at me weird when I say I relate to this song. It's weird but this song brings some weird sort of comfort, knowing I wasn't the only one. It's a dark song but oh well.
@ainsleighgray5241 Жыл бұрын
I have a problem with doing this, but I take songs I like and analyse the lyrics, and if I relate to said song I'll make a version about my friendships. I did sort of the same this with this song. "I thought this time was different/Why did I think they'd be different/It's never ever different" sort of describes the whole point of my version pretty well - finding friends. First friend group I had, they weren't really my friends. Second group, we were friends, but didn't have that level of friendship I have with my friends now. First and only friend in high school, she left me for popular girls, which hurt. Then I found my current friends, the longest friendship I've ever kept, but I just don't feel like I belong with them. "All you wanna do, all you wanna do baby" just makes me think of everything some of my friends call me. Midget, which they know I hate getting called short and similar words, I used to get called a furry and a rat, and Caelan used to call me a disgruntled worm, they called me annoying and made me cry once, and first day back (yesterday) my friend Caleb said and I quote, "You know who the slowest people in the world are? Your parents. It took them 9 months to make a bad joke.".
@rebeccaanamu8123 жыл бұрын
Idk why but I relate to this song so much its like in a way it was written for me. I was raised in a dysfunctional family so middle to high school (8th grade-12th grade) after I got my first boyfriend I was looking for love and approval from them and all they did want was "*kiss* ah" it was a bad cycle and lead me to a lot of bad and abusive relationships and I didn't know any better. Two of the relationships were with older men one when I was 16 and he was 23 and another one I was legal I was 18 but he was in his 30s which is still creepy at the time though I didn't see any problems I was immature and I thought oh he's different that he loves me... Finally I got out of the chain moved away was single for 2 years and met my now husband who is an amazing man to me. We are going to have a baby and I'm for sure raising my kid differently than I was to recognize abuse and know that it isn't okay. It's sad though I bet my story is a lot more common than it should be.... 💔

All you wanna do All you wanna do, baby I think we can all agree I'm a ten amongst these threes All you wanna do All you wanna do, baby And ever since I was a child, I'd make the boys go wild All you wanna do All you wanna do, baby Take my first music teacher, Henry Mannox I was young it's true but even then I knew The only thing you wanna to do is... Broad, dark, sexy Mannox Taught me all about dynamics He was 23 And I was 13 going on 30 We'd spend hours strumming the lute Striking the chords and blowing the flute He plucked my strings all the way to G Went from major to minor, C to D Tell me what you need What you want, you don't need to plead 'Cause I feel the chemistry Like I get you and you get me And maybe this is it He just cares so much, it feels legit We have a connection I think this guy is different 'Cause all you wanna do All you wanna do, baby Is touch me, love me, can't get enough, see All you wanna do All you wanna do, baby Is please me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me Run your fingers through my hair Tell me, I'm the fairest of the fair Playtime's over The only thing you wanna do is... But then there was another guy Francis Dereham Serious, stern and slow Gets what he wants, and he won't take no Passion in all that he touches The sexy secretary to the Dowager Duchess Helped him in his office, had a duty to fulfil He even let me use his favourite quill Spilled ink all over the parchment, my wrist was so tired Still I came back the next day as he required You say I'm what you need All you want, you don't need to plead 'Cause I feel the chemistry Like I get you and you get me And I know this is it He just cares so much, this one's legit We have a real connection I'm sure this time is different 'Cause all you wanna do All you wanna do, baby Is touch me, love me, can't get enough see All you wanna do All you wanna do, baby Is please me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me You can't wait a second more to get My corset on the floor Playtime's over The only thing you wanna do is... Yeah, that didn't work out So I decided to have a break from boys And you'll never guess who I met Tall, large, Henry the Eighth Supreme head of the Church of England Globally revered Although you wouldn't know it from the look of that beard Made me a lady in waiting Hurled me and my family up in the world Gave me duties in court and he swears it's true That without me, he doesn't know what he'd do You say I'm what you need All you want, we both agree This is the place for me I'm finally where I'm meant to be Then he starts saying all this stuff He cares so much, he calls me love He says we have this connection I guess it's not so different 'Cause all you wanna do All you wanna do, baby Is touch me, love me, can't get enough, see All you wanna do All you wanna do, baby Is seize me, squeeze me, birds and the bees me There's no time for when or how 'cause you Just got to have me now Playtime's over The only thing you wanna do is... So we got married Woo With Henry, it isn't easy His temper's short, and his mates are sleazy Except for this one courtier He's a really nice guy, just so sincere The royal life isn't what I planned But Thomas is there to lend a helping hand So sweet, makes sure that I'm okay And we hang out loads when the King's away This guy finally Is what I want, the friend I need Just mates, no chemistry I get him and he gets me And there's nothing more to it He just cares so much, he's devoted He says we have a connection I thought this time was different Why did I think he'd be different? But it's never, ever different 'Cause all you wanna do All you wanna do, baby Is touch me, when will enough be enough? See All you wanna do All you wanna do, baby Squeeze me, don't care if you don't please me Bite my lip and pull my hair As you tell me, I'm the fairest of the fair Playtime's over Playtime's over Playtime's over The only thing The only thing The only thing you wanna do is...

The real version of the lyrics TW:r@p3,ped0phil@ “He was 23”He was actually 32 or 36,cause it’s either the age difference or the reversed age was his right one. “C to D”c_lt to d_ck “Enoughsees,bird and the bees,Playtime’s over”.It shows how she was a child and how her childhood was taken from her. “He even let me use his favorite quill”She was giving him a h@ndj0b” “Spilled in all over the paper”His love juice stuff.
