My grandfather was a Yorkshire man in the coal mines from aged 12 to 70...his son's following him. Living in Pitt Lane...All of mining families are one even if we're spread in time and distance. God bless you all ❤

Some videos need to be longer to really get the feeling of the people who were there and how it affected them. Some things shouldn't be rushed.. God bless all of them.

My Grandfather worked down Six Bells, my Mother was pregnant, but overdue by three weeks, so when she finally went into labour, he was notified. He took a holiday to stay close to my Mother, and on the 28th of June 1960 I was born, he said if he would have been working he would have been in the vicinity of the explosion, and could have been killed. I was named after him. His name was David Mitchell.

My grandfather was a coal miner with his son's in Yorkshire all his life from 12-70. We were lucky. He started pulling carts out from the face...one photo shows a weird bald patch on his head as a young man..I learned later what it was😢.thank God this stopped 😢

Nick, you're a moron, the UK had far better safety standards than the EEC ever had when we joined in the 70s, safety standards in the EU still lag behind those we have in the UK. These safety laws were made whilst in the EU and we still made our own laws whilst in the EU, how odd...

This is a terrible example of presenting a disaster to the public view for purpose of understanding what happened. The constant precession of ministers, praying, hymning, towel wringing totally distracts from the facts of what actually happened. There is a mentality that has been growing over the last 20 years that everybody has to be pulled into vortex of misery to share the experience about disasters. I got entirely bored listening to the praying and hymning so I do not know what actually happened at this mine disaster, thanks for nothing!

If you have any real interest, don't whinge here but take the trouble to read the official mines inspectorate report. Some folks seem to want everything served up on a plate. Not hard to find online - took 2 minutes www.dmm.org.uk/pitwork/html/sixbells.htm If you are really concerned, produce your own video, and post it on youtube

@@bigoldgrizzly Oh so sorry I disturbed your view of protocol, Yah, served on plate, when I have my car repaired expect it to be done right...served on plate? If you are going to make videos for public viewing - serve them right or not at all! It is the 'mentality' of the times, 'you must endure my pain with me', am I right or am I right?

@@richardnailhistorical3445 It seems your objection is to the religious beliefs and feelings of others. This video was clearly made primarily as a memorial to those who died, recording the impact and continuing effects on the community of this terrible disaster and also to record the basic facts of the disaster for those who do not know. If you prefer a purely dry factual approach, read the official report. If you have your car repaired you are commissioning and paying for a service and have the right to have the work done to your satisfaction. You did not commission or pay for this video, so can only take as it is, or move on to other sources. The likes and dislikes for this video tell their own tail
