I could not possibly check how useful this advice is, I am still too young. But everything sounds completely reasonable and sounds like excellent advice, especially for aspiring musicians. Thank you very much. This video is for sure underrated

Hey I’m 17, last year of high school. Music is my life. I love playing guitar, song writing, singing and performing. I am still trying to figure out “exactly” what I want to do after I graduate, whether that’s going to college or trying to find a mentor. Either way I’ve been looking for direction. Any tips?

Don't have an ego, be approachable, be respectful to the guy who is hiring you, most importantly if the talent starts talking you stop what you're doing and start listening. If you still need some advice then add me on Facebook and I'll see what I can do. Good luck

Mr Lewis thanks for the all explanations,Im you fan about your serious, realist and funny way of working, Im Brazilian composer, arranger, songwriter and I use to compose using the all americas languages as portuguese, english and spanish, I have more than hundred own compositinos from samba, bossa, to romantic spanish songs and a bit soul ballads in english, so my work in music is compose, play , record, and I need to show it sell it cause I know and the few people that hear it agree that sounds good... I Know that Im a hit maker but I need a structure to show it... thanks!!!!!!!!!

This video is fantastic. Thanks Jayme and Musicians Unite for doing it. I'm a working bassist.. I do original music touring and have regular covers gigs in all kinds of genres. Some great and valuable tips. I especially like the "Check your ego at the door" one. Being a prick gets you nowhere in my mind. I'd much rather work with a crap musician thats nice than a rude Victor Wooten with an entitlement complex! Thanks again :)

Really good advice, thanks. I wish more players (and vocalists!) listened to the overall sound more. It’s huge. I noticed you didn’t say they asked you to play slap bass. Is this a skill that is expected in working bassists?

I’m a singer who didn’t go to music school, etc. and the guys in my band are very good musicians. I feel lucky about that! But I spend a lot of time listening to the big picture. Luckily my guys are good at interpreting what I want. I do wish I had more technical knowledge though. It would help.

It would be awesome if musicians are willing to provide transportation; granted if the other musician with no transportation, will commit? That's why I probably didn't get in two bands. Just because I don't have a car, doesn't mean I don't want this career. Yes I have to work harder but it's worth it to me. Why waste many years just over a bad day?
