Fun fact, Mac miller was the one who encouraged Vince to start rapping. He produced a full mixtape for Vince called Stolen youth which was his first release.

Vince actually had a couple mixtapes out before Stolen Youth, but they didn't make much noise and are really obscure at this point. Mac is definitely the reason Vince stuck with rap though, he basically confirms it here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nJ2uqX2Hhpd0nac

Vince started under Odd Future low key. He notably showed on 4 of 6 songs on “The Award Tour EP” from 2010 which led to Mac collabs from Earl

Would highly recommend Big Fish Theory. It's my personal favourite and probably his most sonically rich release. Great way to demonstrate Vince's refusal to stay in one lane within hip hop. Glad you enjoyed this

Vince Staples is one of my favorite rappers of all time. If you follow his discography, you’ll see his style gets more and more electronic/experimental while still bringing hard biting lyrics throughout.

Vince and Kenny have a special respect for each other - Vince is the only person I have never heard Kenny Beats tag line on.

You definitely should react to Ramona Park Broke My Heart next, I think its by far his best work. Then Big Fish Theory, then Summertime 06

Man this album is so much fun to listen to. Real modern West Coast. Also more Kenny Beats production! (Unlocked reaction)

If you love repetition, please listen to Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica. It is a plunderphonics/experimental/ambient/electronic album that uses 80s tv commercials as samples paired with beautiful synthesizer chords/melodies from the Roland Juno 60. There’s a fair bit of repetition used within the album and it really conjures up a hypnotizing/haunting vibe. Oneohtrix has also scored 2 safdie brothers movies (uncut gems, good time) and was a producer on The Weeknd’s dawn FM (which is a weird juxtaposition considering he is wildly experimental and is working with one of the biggest pop stars in the world). Please don’t let this one go under your radar, as a fellow producer this album (and his whole discography) has really blown my mind. Would really love to see your reaction/hear your thoughts. Have a nice day!

Oh and piggybacking off of this comment: his most recent album “Magic Oneohtrix Point Never” follows a similar theme of the album being a simulation of a radio station. Although this one feels a lot more psychedelic/dreamy than FM

Cool that you connected No Bleedin (and the album in general) to those hecklers blaring this kind of music in the early 90s, since that was when West Coast hip hop was dominant - Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Warren G, etc - and Vince's music is not just West Coast itself but really carries a lot of those vibes into the 2010s and 20s.

@@mercurialno6 They do! The album of the 2010s that best captures that early 90s sound to me is YG's Still Brazy, which has absolutely insane production

Also the radio show on the album, Big Boys Neighborhood, is a real radio station based in Los Angeles, California. The host, Big Boy, plays himself. They have a KZbin channel with interviews and freestyles of artists and rappers. Check it out.

Vince has a ton of variety, check out Big Fish Theory for a more experimental side to Vince and check out his self-titled for a more relaxed Vince (over more Kenny Beats production!)

I think you should definitely give one of J. Cole's records a listen, specifically 2014 Forest Hills Drive or 4 Your Eyez Only. The vocals and ambitious and interesting production choices would be great to see you react to.

Full version on www.patreon.com/mercurialno6 Trying to consolidate our small but faithful cult community. I intend to do lots of 'reaction' style things that may not be interesting to the wider 'general public'. Bear in mind it is my duty to constantly redefine what is meant by "reaction". Consider coming across and joining me. 8 years of doing things for nothing is taking its toll! Ha ha!
