Ahh... many a steamy, humid summer day in the early 90's was spent running on these grounds. The place may be gone, but the memories will last a lifetime. Memories of the heat, oh the oppressive heat, only to be quenched by the splash of TidalWave. The smell of the funnel cake and you walk through the gate. The moldy smell of the air conditioner in the arcade room near Excaliber where you traveled only briefly to get a reprieve from the heat outside. These were days before FastPasses and such, so you braved the sweat while standing in the lines. The faint screams that grow louder as you near the ride you have already waited an hour for. And at the end of the day, the treacherous walk over the bridge, with all your strength removed by the sun, meant this day of memory making was over. But oh for another to come. So much enjoyment. So many memories. It may not have been the best, but we made it OUR BEST!

Dude, AstroWorld was one of the Lesser Profitable Six Flags Parks, and they're tempting people to go to they're larger parks in Texas, Six Flags Over Texas and Six Flags Fiesta Texas. And the old Six Flags that used to Operate in New Orleans was severely damaged in Katrina, actually put a Dent in they're Profits that year, and this Park getting Demolished was how they made up for that lost Profit
@seanlewis11488 жыл бұрын
Plus it outgrew the old spot where it used to be. I would look for an area that is MUCH larger and build a bigger and better one.
@johnnyramon56028 жыл бұрын
actually it was the third profitable park the reason it closed was because with the astrodome and relient stadium parking became an issue and that made the land valuable so the then ceo decided to close it and get a huge profit but turned out to get half of what they wanted for the land and after that the ceo was fired for closing a park for no reason also six flags worlds of adventure or geauga lake put the company in debt so the then ceo probley thought he was getting a lot of money for the land so the company could pay debt off which did not happen(rip astroworld 1969-2005)

The people were nice and the city had so much to offer, including three professional sports teams, a terrific theatre district, fantastic restaurants of every ethnicity, and a beautiful downtown skyline I would encircle via 45 during occasional bouts of insomnia. I miss it and may go back to live someday. Houston would have to get a new mayor, though. Not a fan of fascism.

In the 90's my mom or one of my friends parents would drop us off at astroworld at noon every Saturday during the summer. Guess that was our babysitter till 10 or midnight. We loved it cuz we would meet up with other friends there so it would be maybe 10 of us. Not too much riding the rides but to be free from our parents lol. She gave me $20 (which was a lot for a teenager) and tell me I better not be walking to McDonald's (although I was because the food and drinks were so high and I wanted to play games.) She told me what time to walk out and she will paged me once she pulls into the "pick up only". That place was awesome till it got dangerous. RIP Astroworld....a true fan.

why this park and six flags new Orleans

I heard that Jazzland is coming back to New Orleans, and there is a new theme park outside of Houston that's currently being built called Grand Texas. I know that Jazzland was a fun spot before being sold, and had gotten a nice upgrade by Six Flags before Katrina tore all of that apart. As far as the new one being built in New Caney, we'll just have to wait and see what the outcome will be. Such a shame that AstroWorld is no longer, and DOUBLE shame that I NEVER had the opportunity to go there.😢
