As for the strictness on loose articles, I definitely agree with you, however, when in line for Joker roughly a year ago, a riders phone fell out of their pocket at the middle of the very top section and landed on the bottom roof of the ride which resulted in it absolutely exploding into a million pieces. I believe that they have since added a net in that location, but it still could've ended very poorly had the trajectory of the phone been different. There was an audible gasp from the entire line because of the sheer amount of pieces that went flying after the phone crash-landed.

Your point on the Dead ends is really correct, and makes me appreciate Canada's Wonderland's layout even more, there is only like 1 dead end in the park, and they recently made it not so bad after they removed their Enterprise and put in a path between Yukon Striker and Behemoth. Canada's Wonderland is all loops which makes it super easy to do Coaster to Coaster to Coaster to Coaster without having to turn around at all. Also, Great Adventure has THE BEST skyride in the world, it's actually useful! Cedar Point's only cuts out part of the walk and Hersheypark's isn't even A to B, this one actually helps you get from one side of the park to the other, while being faster than walking!

This is my home park, so I've been quite a few times. I agree with the concerns regarding layout and theming, but I wish the park just looked nicer in general. Some better greenery, some flower beds, pavers instead of asphalt would go a long way to improving the general impression of the park. I don't think it's as visually attractive as Great America or Magic Mountain, or even Georgia. Even their Holiday in the Park is unimpressive compared to, say, Magic Mountain's.

As a worker there, there have been incidents that lead to the park not wanting any loose articles on certain rides. The biggest issue being phones, even if in a zippered/buttoned pocket, the person can still remove said item, and if they don't have a good grip, item will go flying either into a zone we can't access during operations, or potentially hit someone. Jersey devil is in constant motion, which is why they want everything in a locker and not off to the side, as for El Toro, well it goes along the small lake and pathways, if something comes flying off the ride, it's either landing in the water, or potentially hitting another visitor or employee. So we ask to put stuff in the locker, or leave it with a non-rider. We try to maintain a quick and smooth load/unload but when people don't do as we ask, it holds everything up.
@SilverAuthority
@SilverAuthority 2 жыл бұрын
I completely agree with you. I work on Nitro and when we are running three trains we make it a goal to dispatch a train every 60 seconds. This is very possible if all the guests move quickly but since we are not strict about loose articles at Nitro sometimes people take their time putting things away and I will be waiting for them to return to their seat which slows down operations. Usually we have at least a few people each day who report losing their phone on the ride and if we do find the phone days later it is highly likely that it is smashed and this goes for any ride so the lockers make sense in terms of improving dispatch times (moves people through queue faster) and also enhancing safety. I think if the park found a system where the lockers could be free but also couldn't be hogged by multiple people in one group it would make the policy less burdensome. I also work on Jersey Devil Coaster and it is odd for me when I enforce the strict no loose article policy on JDC one day and then next week I'm at Nitro telling people they can put their stuff to the side. As a guest this would confuse the hell out of me even if there are signs because it's not consistent.

@@SilverAuthority I work Lantern, Superman, and the boardwalk. Lantern and super, there are lockers nearby, but they can leave stuff to the side of the station (which usually means they leave their stuff right next to the trains -.-) I do feel there's a much better way to do the lockers. I'm just drawing a blank in my mind on what could work lol
@jeffc1347
@jeffc1347 2 жыл бұрын
He made it very clear he had no issue with the fact that there were mandatory lockers, it was with the fact that they charge for it. Its an obvious scam and makes the major coasters upcharges. As a New Yorker, this is my home park and it feels good to see you donate review on it 🤗. If Six Flags could somehow manage to bring some parts of the park into the 21 century, I think it could really add to the experience. Like you said, some places could really use some theming as well as renovating places that seem untouched since the park opened (the Boardwalk) as well as to make the park feel more connected (the dead ends). I do agree though that the park has amazing operations especially Nitro.

My school is having a trip to Six Flags for the day next week, the park doesn’t allow food into the park so we will be forced to buy food there. This isn’t a big deal to me, but what is crazy is that they only accept credit cards and the only way to use cash would be to buy a Six Flags debit card in the park. But if you buy that you are now locked into using that money or losing it. Overall it’s something that may not seem like a big deal to most people, but for me being in early high school it’s something that frustrates me most.

I work at Six Flags, but do not represent the company. The reason there's a charge for the lockers is that they aren't owned by Six Flags themself and are third party. As much as want to make them free, the locker company has the final say

Glad you mentioned the locker policy. Heading here later this summer and will save me a lot of frustration. Also, it's clear this park pays attention to main stream coaster channels, so maybe they'll make a change, even if it's just changing those ride lockers to free.

The old Rolling Thunder space would be nice for a multi launch or GCI Woody. 5. As for loose items, yeah El Toro and kingda Ka are anal about items.

This is my home park and I can proudly say I've been on every ride in this park except for the extreme ones where you have to pay extra for. Nitro is my ultimate favorite. I can understand everyone's gripe with the locker system. My only issue with them is I get the multiuse locker, which I can transfer over to each coaster so I can stuff my bag and loose articles in, but on really really busy days, or for the coasters that are really busy at that moment (ie Kingda Ka, Jersey Devil, El Toro), they don't have ENOUGH lockers so I'm stuck having to go to another ride or wait until a locker opens up

I love Great Adventure's Holiday in the Park event! Sure, the Intamins don't run, but they still have a majority of their coasters open and it's very easy to get lots of rides in. Riding Nitro at night in subfreezing temperatures is insane. And then the lights and seasonal food and drink offerings just make for a very unique and fantastic visit.

I went in 2018 and here are my thoughts about it. I agree it’s a great. First I agree with operations they get them in and out as fast as possible. But also agree with the nitro thing as I saw people take cell phones onto the ride and saw people videoing and taking pic on the ride even going up the lift hill. I don’t like the locker policy I feel like it’s a money grab. Food wise I feel it’s gotten better since I had it where the burger was terrible and tenders felt like they could been cooked more. Theming I agree. Over all it’s a better park in the chain.

I have a rather unique issue with the lockers. I wear reading glasses but I can't take them on the ride, so I end up putting them in the locker. Which then makes it much more difficult for me to see the locker and keypad numbers to retrieve my belongings. As for the rides, there really is a great variety. Unfortunately, you have to be lucky to have them all running the day you visit. Great Adventure definitely needs a little love put into it. Many of the rides need to be repainted and it just needs some general sprucing up. But overall, those of us in the area are extremely lucky to call it our home park.

I literally left everything except my key and my season pass in my car to stick it to them over the locker policy. They even tried to make me put my key in a locker! At least they were fine with masks in your pockets and I adjusted to successfully hide my key with a mask. And I'll add this-it cost them money. Might I have bought a souvineer and (admittedly much less likely due to dietary reasons) food if I didn't feel they were nickling and diming in unnecessary and obvious ways? Yes. I didn't even take my wallet in as a result of the policy. That has to be the worst policy I have ever seen at a park other than Darien Lake outing me for reporting a man who whipped out a knife in line and not doing anything about it as he creepily stalked me the rest of the day. I'd put Great Adventure in the definitive "once every 5-10 years, when they get a new coaster worth riding" category because of the locker policy. That's not to say Great Adventure is a bad park overall though, I think with the coasters they have they have a very high ceiling for how good they could be with little to no investment. But they have objectively atrotious management that won't reach it because they know they can get away with nickle and diming on the "NYC tax" (which Luna Park doesn't even have as the price justifies unlimited rides on the iconic Cyclone and the generally upcharge flat rides like the Slingshot that are included)

This park used to be an great destination spot back in 2006. I remember they had Chiller and Rolling Thunder and a bunch of other flat rides but thats what this park is lacking now. Plaza de Carnival and Golden Kingdom feel empty without the animals and playground. At least they finally revived the Movie Town section. Plus they should really consider making a resort near the park because these hotels are far from the park. It’s still good but not as it used to be.

While outdated in places is kind of fun for those of us over a certain age to go in and see things we remember from the 1980s. The locker policy is bad though. Only Jersey Devil was really enforcing it when we went, crazy strict enforcement. King Da Ka did light enforcement and the other coasters did none. Also, time to put some love in Green Lantern. That thing shakes and shuffles all the way through the course.

As great as this park is, it’s biggest con is its convenience (or its stunning lack of it). From the ‘dead end’ thing Taylor talked about to the VERY strict loose policy, this park is definitely one of the worst when it comes to convenience. This park is also in a pretty remote location, so there aren’t many hotels around it for those visiting from out of town. I remember when I went to Great Adventure last year, I had to stay in a hotel about 20 minutes away. This is a great park with a lot of potential but they DEFINITELY could improve on convenience.

Yeah I will say in regards to loose articles that what they're doing here is frankly stupid. The best solution has, and likely always will be a bin on the platform, simple as that. And if not that because of different loading and unloading areas then an area to drop it off in just before boarding for free like on Karnan. The whole idea of only paid lockers or only tiny lockers for tiny belongings for free is just incredibly scummy in my opinion and just signals that someone in charge loves profit more than the guest experience.

The loose article policy and the way the staff interact with guests seriously bring this park down. I am not a fan of staff eyeing down my pockets while I am entering the line, but even if it the policy itself was encorced and the staff wasnt so... six flags, it would have not been nearly as enfuriating. Note for coaster people, try running belts for loose articles. The only places which even notice them are the metal detectors, and removing a phone and keys into those lockers is easy.

That chopsticks used to be a real Panda Express, interesting that the company left the park. I like my hometown park, but I do wish they had more family friendly options. Some of the lines for smaller rides are just as long as the lines for bigger coasters, so it can sometimes suck to wait on a long line for a smaller ride.

I am early in the video but I want to respond to your criticism of the parks lack of cohesion. I think the boardwalk area is the worst area of the park if I’m being honest, it’s just not that much of a departure from the parking lot it is hundreds of yards away from. But other than that I think the bulk of the park has that fantasy forest vibe with the amusement park and ice cream motifs and some of that fanciful pleasure pier architecture. That’s what I think the park does well is that really interesting wooded area even if that is the last trafficked area of the middle of the park

This used to be my home park, but I moved, so now it's SFNE. I still come back from time to time, mainly to ride Kingda Ka, since we don't have a launch coaster at SFNE. As for the layout, I think it's a lot like Kings Island where all the coasters go outside of the park. I think this just happened with the way the park expanded over the years. It does make for some long walks. I wish the Skyride had better capacity since it seems to always have a big line and it ends up being quicker to walk. I really dislike the lose article policy, though it is mandated by the State of New Jersey. They should look into installing free lockers within the queue like Cedar Fair does. Operations have usually been good. Some ride crews are faster than others, but they almost always run multiple trains on everything. I've seen El Toro run one train a few times, I think due to cold temperatures and needing the trains to be full. If it's busy, they've always run both trains on days I've been there. They have definitely paid more attention to detail in recent years. All the flat rides they got during the Jim Reid Anderson years really helped to make up for earlier removals and fill in dead spaces in the park. The Wild Walkway was closed for many years, but brought back when they added Zumanjaro. The single rider line works really well at El Toro. They either assign you a row in the station towards the back of the train or fill empty seats after the gates close. It fills empty seats and doesn't really slow down dispatches. On Nitro it's sort of a free for all, but I think they'd organize it better on crowded days. I've yet to see the single rider lines open at Medusa or Jersey Devil. I agree with what their next coaster should be. It should be placed in the old Rolling Thunder plot, and add a new attraction to either the Golden Kingdom or Plaza Del Carnival, depending on where the entrance is.

As someone who got smacked in the face with a flying cellphone I'm glad that there are some rules regarding loose items but saying you can't have anything in your pockets is a bit much. I think as long as the staff sees there is nothing loose in your hand or in your lap then I would be ok but in your hands definitely not because there is always some dum dum that wants to film the ride or take a selfie only to lose the device and have it hit someone.

it’s my home park so i have a soft spot, though even without being biased i can say it’s a great park. amazing ride collection (even with clones), pretty good operations usually, a good vibe, etc but i have to agree with you on a couple things, such as the locker system (which i don’t usually have a problem with but it can get annoying), the layout (went last summer for the first time in a couple years and ran into a couple dead ends and whatnot and i always get lots on my way to bizarro), and i guess the theming, though idc about that too much considering that this is a six flags park. my first visit to great adventure when i was younger was what sparked my interest in coasters and i love this park, even with its flaws. also el toro is either my #1 or #2, it’s close between that and velocicoaster. rode velocicoaster in december on my birthday and haven’t ridden it toro in around 3 years so i gotta see how they stack up to each other
