I'm not a sidecar guy, but after watching this video, I can definitely see the attraction. @mmaaddict783 жыл бұрын
@Ural Motorcyclist I've followed enough Ural KZbin channels to convince me that the Urals are great machines, until you start to put a lot of miles on them. They seem like great bikes for short rides, but once you venture out, you are going to be replacing things like relays and bearings until you replace all of that factory stuff with quality aftermarket stuff. They are great once you get them dialed in and fitted with the quality parts they should come with as standard. Especially considering the price. I have never owned a Ural, but they interest me a lot as a bike nut. My comments are based on third hand accounts, not my experience.

Love the video. Very informative. I have been seriously thinking of getting a Ural now for two or three years. I have always been a cruiser type motorcycle rider, three of them being Harleys. My current bike is a 2013 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic, so that’s full tour pack and comfortable passenger seat. I use it to commute to work, and some weekend day trips with my wife. I do find that I do get tired after riding for a while, and balancing a 960 lb bike in the city, add to that our combined weight with my bike, my wife , and me is 1300lb. I’m 57 years old, so not getting any younger. Also, I do love what I call the “Throw and Go” ability for commuting to work where I simply throw my work bag in the rear trunk of the Ultra and go. No tie down strapping required. I would certainly be able to do that with a Ural. I’m not sure if I should start with and older model for less money, or get one of the newer Urals from 2019 up.

I haven’t bought one yet, but I did get my motorcycle license (I ride a 2009 Suzuki C50) and I will get my Ural some day. I love the Geo paint job - I will have a hell of a time choosing between it and a more vintage looking paint scheme.

Its on my "One of these days" list. I did go shopping for one in 2000 but was not impressed with the fit and finish of the bikes back then. Now that I'm an amputee it would be a fun addition but I would always want a motorcycle. A Ural and a 650 Royal Enfield. That might work.
@RobotLegJim2 жыл бұрын
I’m an LBK (left below knee) amputee, and I ride a 2016 Gear Up Ambassador. I had the left foot peg removed, and the extended foot box put on. Now, having my prosthetic “behave” is never an issue. I have the hand shifter with reverse lever by the fuel tank, and I can ride as well as any able-bodied rider, and better than a few of them. If you’re seriously considering getting back on a bike, this package is ideal. If you’re ever in New England, hit me up, and we’ll take it out & run her thru her paces!

By now, I've watched quite a few of your videos, but I looked for this one to see what y'all had to say about these and I was hoping you weren't going to goof on it. I got what I wanted in a review. And maybe a bit more. I just started looking for a sidehack rig and Ural's are, well, more common, and affordable than an old BMW with a sidecar. In the 70's I sold and installed sidecars on bikes. Never had much interest before and discovered that a sidecar adds a whole new dimension to riding. Still didn't put one on my own bike. After watching this video, I am definitely going to buy a Ural for a rider. (I did wonder why you spent the time pushing it backwards when it has a reverse until you explained that). A little critique on your off road riding with that bike: In every instance except the drowning, you would never have had to take a second run at anything if you had been quicker on the gas. I'll chalk that up to you not being sure of the bikes abilities rather than inexperience. This was possibly, for me, the most informative video of yours I have seen yet. Thanks for making it and my search is now in high gear. I trust your appraisal more than a dealer. Good stuff guys!

" the number of breakdowns was really impressive" ... in a good or bad way? I remember a UK bike mag review for the Ural in the 70's or 80's summarising with "if they build their ballistic missiles to the same quality we have nothing to worry about". I gather that since then things have changed. For the past few years (ie under the new American owner) parts have been progressively more-and-more sourced from the same Eastern (Thailand, Taiwan) suppliers that Ducati, Triumph etc use. I read somewhere that a Hilux alternator is used ... which is a pretty good recommendation reliability-wise.

Interesting video. My wife says I was off center before I got the Ural - that was 7 years ago. 2008 Patrol, used, that's been at high altitude and low, with a pair of trials tires on the back it will go anywhere. Overshot a corner on a Jeep trail in the mountains and had the front wheel hanging in the air. Put it into 2-wheel reverse, pulled everyone back onto the road and powered away. Never had to get my butt out of the saddle... 3 wheel slides around large flat desert dirt roads are an exquisite experience.

I first saw one of these in the 70's. The owner had bought it new and had to rebuild. The bores were .005" oval, the rear diff leaked and the the gears did not mesh properly, the paint peeled off, welds broke, the carbs were untuneable, it was endless. He completely renovated it and when he was finished he had a quiet, reliable, comfortable ride, with a reverse and two wheel drive that actually worked. I looked at one, but the price !!!. Gee Baldy, I seriously wonder about your ADV skills. The bike missfire in the rain and phoning a friend?? That was probably the plug leads shorting from getting wet. (and should not be doing that). The second thing about you owing a sidecar already, and not aware of the off camber opposite reaction down or uphill?? Isn't this the same dynamics that applies to accelerating and braking thrust? How about some good offroad rider technique and get out of the saddle and onto the pegs and counter balance, and some input help also from the passenger? I did enjoy the video, a real world view of this amazingly good looking outfit. 2WD action next time please. Ural factory was awesome too.

Yeah it should be obvious... but for the oblivious viewer who doesn't trial nor sidecar but is interested in it, this was perfect documentary. I've read that all before and after it was pointed out, it was indeed obvious to me too. In the afterthought. To me, someone who learns something inside of a documentary - regardless of true or acted - conveys a better learning experience for the viewer than an expert who simply states what he knows. Nonetheless, he pointed out he never brought his 2006 to the dirt. Twisting slopes aren't very common on asphalt roads. Despite that he managed to keep the ride safe.

Pretty solid if you use them as intended. If you plan on doing only 70+ mph freeway rides, over long distances. It’s probably not the best tool. If you’re handy with a wrench, they are very easy to repair and speaking with Ural directly. They will help you get back on the road, if you don’t have a dealer near.
