Hi! In calculation of sigma level, it is overstating capability. If a process in a capability of 4.5 sigma based on short term data, adjusting 1.5, we are saying the process is of 6 sigma.. Not convincing.

I would like to add that this shift of 1.5 sigma compensate the measurement uncertainty as well, not only the long term variation. What ever data we measure their is measurement uncertainty involved. Suppose your process is very near to LSL, then this 1.5 sigma will compensate.
