Toto Schillaci was Italy's Paolo Rossi at WC 1990, would have been a beautiful story had they won it. Both rose to the occasion at their respective World Cups, and both faded quickly after. Both died too early Toto at 59 and Paolo at 64. But the football world will always remember them both.

His humility, charm and simplicity was so genuine and infectious that even the Irish public at large couldn't help but adopt him as almost one of our own, despite breaking our niave yet ambitious footballing hearts in the summer of 1990 with that goal he should have become the villain but instead he was welcomed into our hearts and became somewhat of a mini celebrity, such was his personality. Watching this video gave me some goosebumps, thank you. RIP Salvatore 'Toto' Schillaci

one of totos goals knocked my country ireland out of italia 90. i was 8 at the time but even saying that for many years afterwards if somone did something impressive on the sports field. we would say toto schillaci maybe just because it sounded like total skill. or toto schillaci couldnyt do better.
