Oh my god the amount of comments about this... I'm not saying Goku should not have teleported to King Kai's planet. I'm not saying Goku can teleport anywhere. & i'm not saying he should gave let the earth blow up. I'm saying Goku should have grabbed King Kai & Teleported off the planet instead of killing them all. He gets there speaks an entire sentence and just let's Cell blow up. Goku can move far faster than light in the amount of time it took him to speak that sentence he could have grabbed King Kai and teleported them both back to Earth and let Cell blow up alone. It's fine GOKU resolved himself to die but it is NOT okay that he took King Kai with him when he didn't have to.

Goku letting Raditz tail go the first time proves he isn't a sociopath. While it was a dumb decision, Goku only let go in response to Raditz begging him to do so. While it wasn't a smart decision, it was one made with compassion. Similar to how Goku gives Frieza enough energy to live, despite knowing Frieza really doesn't deserve it.
@rich355 Жыл бұрын
In the case of Raditz, yes. However, it's clear that Goku has a selfish interest in keeping Frieza alive. Throughout the series Goku always mentions how much of a shame it is that Frieza is so evil despite being so powerful. Yet always gives him an out because he likes and gets thrilled by the challenge.
@Olya02474 ай бұрын
As for Raditz, that's no excuse. Goku killed his own brother. Raditz just wanted Goku to join them and destroy Frieza, who enslaved their race and destroyed them. Yes, Raditz kidnapped Gohan for this, but Goku spared Frieza, who is many times worse (he enslaved the Saiyan race, destroyed them, took some Saiyans as slaves and abused them, then killed Goku’s friends and if not for Vegeta, he would have killed Gohan) just for the sake of fighting him again, since he is a strong opponent. Watch the original voice acting or subtitles. Goku doesn't care about anyone. He only wants to fight a strong opponent. The longer the better. And if you read the DBS manga, Bardock wished from Dragon Balls that his sons to prosper and achieve everything they wants in order to survive as a children,but then Goku kills his own brother. Raditz's death, after you understand the situation, becomes really sad. Even sadder than Nappa, since Vegeta warned him to retreat and give him the opportunity to fight, but Nappa did not listen and attacked Gohan and Krillin, then Goku broke his back and for Vegeta he was already a meaningless warrior and ally (Nappa always did not listen to Vegeta and he was tired from this. Even when Nappa tried to attack Frieza, Vegeta stopped him and asked for forgiveness. Otherwise, they would all have been killed)

The only issue I have is with the Majin Vegeta fight. In my opinion, Goku simply recognized that Vegeta was at the breaking point as a person. The only thing that matters to him anymore is his own strength, and Goku is the physical manifestation of his weakness. Vegeta was literally tearing himself apart and was willing to throw away everything that he was just to prove he is stronger than Goku. And honestly, if Goku didn't fight him here, Vegeta would have likely ruined his life for good here, in the worst case he may have even killed his family to try and rid himself of what he now calls weakness. I have to pause at the gohan part. The bean to cell is possibly one of the most misunderstood moments of all time. Also, Gohan spent 2 years in the chamber, and is turning 17 during the buu arc so it makes him more like 11- turning twelve during cell id you use the toriyama quote interpretation. Wich you shouldnt because toriyama does NOT know his own timeline. I support gokus decision, and if you actually read dragon ball with thw right mindset and understanding of martial arts and psychology youd start to blame gohan for it. Im a martial artist who loves philosophy and manga. Specifically, dragon ball. And one thing that always stood out to me is dragon balls unique commentary on how we choose to live our lives. Every character in fiction ever is a symbol or an analog for a deeper philosophical meaning the author intended. Superman represent truth and justice, naruto represents a pure heart deterimnation, batman is self overcoming/truama etc. But in dragon ball, this idea is very... Relied upon. People dont understand why they like dragon ball usually except the fights, But its because each of these characters are treated as if they each have seperate minds from the plot. Or atleast they are when its peak. What i mean by this is that at no point in the series does everyone have the same internal goal, yes, everyone wants to beat cell, but vegeta wants to prove his ego, Goku wants to push his son, trunks wants to prevent his truamtic future/past, picolo wants to be at peace, Etc etc. I have to make this clear because in order to fully understand why goku gave cell that bean, You have to understand the message goku has been taught his whole life and that he humself represents the learning of, self responsibility, wich was lacking in gohan. Wich in some parts, from a psychological perspective, is gohans fault. Gokus entire life has been fighting, martial arts. In order to get better as a fighter and as a person goku has had to take the martial artist approach to life. So much of gokus character is directly linked to the concept of the monk personality archetype within martial arts. A martial artist willing to stand rigid and bend with life as he sees fit. A martial artist expressing the very true highest form of martial arts, against the very highest form of opponent within martial arts, fate. The very highest form of martial arts is the ability to know when to stand and fight till the end for what you want or love, and to know when your own ego will get in your way. In other words, the highest expression of martial arts, Both in a fight and life, Is learning presciscley when to attack, and when not too. Gokus struggle with this is the epicenter of his internal character struggle between the monk archetype and the warrior archetype. See,the reasons why goku pushed gohan so hard, is because like goku, Gohan has the ability to integrate these achtypes within himself, and has the ones nessisary to become stronger as a person. In other words, Gohan has been given everything he needs to to learn the ultimate expression of martial arts. And before you say gohan is sheltered. No, hes not. Gohan wasnt lied to, gohan was told he was found in a forest. I get its traumatic, but from thr age of 4 gohan was told explicitly what the conditions of life were, and in addition was given things goku had to wait his whole life for like family and proper nurturement from a group , not to mention training and school. Yes its alot of pressure, But goku, a kid with amnesia, without anything but the ability to scrap made his way from that house in the woods all the way to god hood, By learning when to attack, and when not too. By learning when to put life on blast, when to be a warrior, and when not too. And in some respects, that was his right of passage into adult hood both from a maturity look at a martial arts look. Goku did this without barley ANYONE telling him. He had to interpret all of this from masters, from cryptic training, younger than gohan in some cases. And lets take a side note to mention vegeta, vegeta struggles to express the highest form of martial arts aswell, as he did not know how to balance the warrior and the human inside of him. Hes the personification of the warrior archetype in martial arts, a fighter that believes fighting, establishing your will over your opponents and problems is the only true way to win any encounter in life, the only way to quiet your insecurities, fears, doubts, hates, enemies, problems witb the wold, is to become strong enough to totally destroy them. Unlike goku, he has a even harder time understanding when to sit down. This is the difference between them, and one of the deeper messages of dragon ball as a whole, that goku is willing to look upon himself for imporvment. Goku is willing to do the REAL hard work, the self intrusive hard work. From a niestchzian perspective hes taken the step towards self actualization that swinish, hedonistic pigs like us cannot fathom. From a stoic perspective hed be a perfect example of a stoic warrior. From a martial arts perspective hes the embodiment of the warrior monk. A man willing to do what others wont, Be honest and tru to himself, in all faucets of life. Literally all this is, is self responsibility. This is why goku remains the strongest cast member of the z fighters because hes willing to be true to himself. We all look at goku like a sociopath, when really hes trying to show us how to be authentic. Gohans pushing during the cell arv was deserved, For lack of a better term goku had realised gohan was a pussy. He had a good heart,and was even willing to fight, but he didn't wanna be true to himself in ever way. He didnt wanna be a sadistic warrior, even though he is, He didnt want to be all these things related to fighting in dragon ball, even though were shown time and time again, that he is. Gohans suffering in this battle with cell is 100% on himself. He is the only one that didnt buy into his strength. Literally think about it, forget my long winded explanation. If gohan had just literally pushed him, been a man about it, and that sounds harsh but thats the reality of self improvement, theres no way out but facing your own issues, But being tru to yourself. Strength if found in truth, and truth can only be obtained once YOU stop lying. In gohans case, stop lying about his insecurities. It was always up to gohan to get over his mental humps of weakness, like it is for all of us, And the reason why gohan never resents goku for the cell arc is because gohan KNOWS this. Goku did nothing in the cell arc but what a super powerful father trying to help his son in life do, Goku gave cell gohan as a sport, and we have to remember it was GOHAN who fumbled the bag and let goku die and the world almost blown up. Literally, The entire cell arc can be avoided is gohan stfu, started listening to the people around him like goku did, and just believe in himself. It feels weird for blaming someone for not believing in themselves but theres no one else to blame. This is why goku is the strongest still, when he looses in life, even in the cell arc when he SHOULD blame gohan for fumbling the bag against cell, He only blames himself. This is true growth,sighn of a person truly in pursuit of strength, and not lying to himself for validation, like vegeta, Like picolo jr at the start of the series, like frieza when he was scared of the warrior of legend And just like gohan when he would not believe in his own inner power despite EVERYONE giving him the chance even his mom.

Follow up. Goku fought majin vegeta for the same reason that he gave cell the bean. Goku, Like the platonic concept of the eternal inquirer does not, and has realised he cannot give people the answer by the time the buu saga rolls around. Gokus id almost complete in his monk arc, as shown by the end of z, and at this point at the fight with majin vegeta has sorta fully developed his monk personality and ways. What goku realises is what we should realise about other people, Its actually a very powerful concept. Deeper than goku showing mercy to an opponent, this represents gokus ability to understand other peoples emotions, aswell as when someone isnt being true to themselves. Goku fully realises that the only way for vegeta to fully complete self actualization he must treat vegeta like a enemy once again, the only way to make vegeta to confront himself as a warrior is to defeat him psychologically in ways that attack his warrior pride. Ie: Beating his ass, and without some flashy 3rd form as an excuse. Its essentially tough love, As goku fid the same with gohan using cell as a pushing method, He instead directly had to pish vegeta to start questioning his decisions, and goku knows hes the only on sick enough in the head to understand thats how to get through to vegeta. They both understand each other so well as fighters, and as a fighter myself i can say that once you establish a fighting bond with someone, ita deeper than anything, sometimes even your love for your spouses. When fighting someone you are having a conversation and you are conveying a point; being that my way of living, who i am, what I've done to prepare for this moment is superior to what you have done for this moment. In other words, to beat someone in a fair fight between warriors, is to teach them a better way of life, to teach them a better way towards strength. Battle is not actually the only thing vegeta understands, But its the only thing he listens to. He lives for fighting, so any lessons about life must come through fighting and combat. On the other hand, Goku is fighting for life, in all ways you can take that. Lessons for him will come through life and improve him in fighting. This is why vegeta is the warrior like explained earlier and goku is the monk. What aspect of themselves they put first, fighting, or living. Goku fights majin vegeta because the only way to teach a man like vegeta a lesson, is to do it with your hands.

1 year late but I still want to say I concur for the most part, just have a few corrections for the beginning: 1) Gohan did not spend 2 years in the chamber. It was stated multiple times that that Goku and Gohan weren't even in the chamber for a full year (with Mr. Popo directly quoting that they had 3 hours left when they exited, meaning it was roughly 21 hours). 2) Gohan was 9 throughout most of the Cell Saga, but was 10 during the Cell Games. The Super Exciting Guide in '09 states his birthday as May 18th (likely thanks to the anime, but still technically canonized). Goku and Gohan came out of the chamber the same day Cell announced the Cell Games (which would be the 17th as Cell states the Cell Games takes place on the 26th; it was originally stated as the 17, but considering the androids arrived on the 12th, that was likely a mess-up on the editor or [most probably] Toriyama's end). Gohan was 16 around the Buu Saga because the events of the Saga happen roughly one week before his 17th birthday (It's been stated in Daizenshuu 4 that the Tenkaichi Budokai always takes place on May 7th, and the events of the Buu Saga happen over the course of about 2 days, excluding the one month prelude at the beginning.) Other than that, yeah your points are pretty valid.

I think a part of the reason he went to fight Majin Vegeta, was because if he DIDN'T Vegeta would have continued to kill people until Goku went and fought him, or at the very least kept getting in the way of stopping Buu. Additionally, if Goku had went SSJ3 against, that wouldn't have been very wise of him since he's trying to consurve his power for the long run, and I don't think he would have lasted doing it twice against both Vegeta and Buu like he did. I whole-heartly believe this was the better route that just didn't end how he expected it to, vegeta would have been a problem in the long run, so he decided to end it then and there. As for sending Gohan into fight, I think if he hadn't, the world would have been destroyed and that Gohan was there best bet. While having a child fight was the worst possible plan to bank on, especially a 9 year old, I don't even think the combined might of Goku, Vegeta and Trunks could have beat Cell after what we seen him do during the Gohan fight. Especially since during this time, you couldn't convice Vegeta to jump in to join the team. And while absolutely selfish to Gohan (though why is he training with Goku, if he's not gonna fight) I don't know if it was his intention, it would have been for the greater good, he was the best fighter they had.

I believe the reason Toriyama had Goku give Cell a Senzu bean was to show that Gohan was going to defeat Cell at his full power as a SSJ2 to pass the torch to Gohan as the new protector of Earth. This correlates with Goku at the end of the arc not wanting to return to life to stop villains from wanting to kill him and having Gohan to protect Earth. I agree that even understanding why Goku did that, it’s still very stupid, but I thought of a cool alternative or “what if” scenario that doesn’t devolve Goku for making a stupid decision. Have Gohan fight Cell who was weakened from fighting Goku and still beating Gohan easily, then when the Cell Juniors are formed, have Cell order two of them to gang up on Goku to steal his bag of Senzu beans so Cell can have one. Gohan then goes SSJ2 and everything that happened in the original remains the same, except Goku never gave Cell a bean and Gohan’s new power up seems even more impressive when weakened Cell was beating up SSJ1 Gohan and now is getting destroyed by SSJ2 Gohan after having a Senzu bean.

That's true. Goku was being selfish when he made Gohan fight Cell and gave Cell a Sensu Bean...but I think that was subtly part of Goku's character development. He was too stubborn to realize because Gohan was half saiyan and not full blooded, he didn't thirst for blood like Goku & Vegeta did as full blooded saiyans. His train of thought at the time seemed to be the fact that he realized he wouldn't always be around to save the world, but somone who is more powerful than he or Vegeta (who at the time couldn't be counted on to be the world's defender due to his selfish Saiyan pride, which is completely justified since he's literally the uncrown King of ALL saiyans) in Gohan who's also shown far more potential than either of them but who is kind enough and level headed enough to be a force of Good not Evil was the perfect candidate. And when he gave cell a Sensu bean, Goku knew that Cell wasn't going to be the last Uber powerful villain so what good would prepping Gohan to be earth's new protector be if he only fought against a not at 100% Cell. In order to really take the crown or mantle as earth's protector from Goku, Gohan would have to face perfect cell at 100%. Goku's seeming shortsightedness turned out to be the exat catalyst that proved Goku right all along about Gohan. But as Goku eventually Grows and develops as a character after realizing Gohan went full cocky mode because he had never exp'd that kind of power when he went SSJ2 and got a bit cocky again as Ult Gohan in the Boo Saga and again placed his faith in the childish Gotenks (Because they're freaking children, by the end of Z, Goku finally realized that they had failed and technically he failed because he was counting on himself alone or them alone to succeed at defending the earth, when in reality what allowed them to defend the earth time and time again was relying on each other and working together. His char dev is a lot like Naruto's in that regard. Itachi also preached teamwork after death to Naruto.

1. Goku disagreed with Bulma's plan to kill Gero before he did anything and like you pointed it was more of a group decision. The bigger issue is that no one came up with a better counter option. Bulma's plan was not a good one, especially since they probably wouldn't destroy the place which would keep Gero's computer going. 2. Goku not understanding Gohan is very understandable and realistic, not like Gohan made it clear he didn't like fighting. As for the senzu bean, that was a problem for Gohan, it anyone else of the Dragon Team had Gohan's potential they probably would have given Cell the senzu themselves. That just showed how different Gohan was from everyone else. As for age, when was that ever a factor? Goku isn't the "hero" because of his age or maturity it's because he tends to be the strongest. 3. Goku did not have enough time to teleport back from King Kai, Goku doesn’t just teleport to a planet he has to lock on to someone's ki, he would have to get to King Kai then quickly search back for someone's ki back on Earth, by the time he would be able to do all that, Cell would have already exploded. Other than those points, I basically agreed with what you had to say. I will just add, Goku never grew up experiencing life in a typical way; meaning of course he doesn't view situations like we would. There's a reason we would respond differently than Goku and it's not because we are less sociopathic or more intelligent or care more etc. We learned different life lessons for how to deal with things than Goku. For instance most of us grow up with hero stories that informs our view of what makes a hero, Goku had none of that.
@michaeleanthonyjr Жыл бұрын
I severely doubt that Goku wouldn't have been able to lock onto even one of the 7.8 billion people on earth, a planet he's been on numerous times before, in time if he had instead spent that time talking. Metatextually speaking, he only didn't teleport back to earth with King Kai because it would undercut his sacrifice if he lived after giving his speech and Toriyama wanted the gag. He could likely have teleported back before the explosion occurred if the writing wanted it to happen because the flow of time in a shonen story is arbitrary. Even ignoring that, he could have grabbed Kai and Bubbles and flown away potentially fast enough to escape the explosion. He literally didn't even try to keep them from dying, so the idea that he just didn't have enough time doesn't work for me with a character as fast as him. The only real justification is that Toriyama put the story before the logic.
@somebeing803 Жыл бұрын
@Silver Bean he barely said a thing. It sounds you're going off the anime which dragged it out. In the manga the whole thing happened in 6 panels total (3 of which is the explosion). King Kai doesn't even have time to respond before Cell explodes.

@Douglas628 Жыл бұрын
After Goku trained with Kami, he started giving most his enemies at least one chance. It's both because he matured as a character and received teaching from Kami in the value of life. Krillin's death in that arc affected him a lot too. It's not _always_ because he wants a fight later and think they can reform. Like with Freeza, where he just didn't want to go as low as him. He tried to completely humiliate Freeza instead, so he wouldn't ever try anything against them again. But at the end of the day, he couldn't let him live. So really he had plenty of ways to get his training in without leaving his kid for a long time

19:40 a lil caveat is that goku mightve been unsure how much time hed have left after going into ssj3, and he mightve been needed after fighting vegeta. Or he mightve been worried hed accidentally kill vegeta, or would have to. Just speaking of a possibility tho

I don't think Goku is a sociopath but rather I believe he effectively has high-functioning autism or at least is on the spectrum.

I do think in regards to Goku letting his enemies go away is a byproduct of OG Dragon Ball, which he learns to respect his opponents and even Master Roshi teaches him to honor his adversaries. On top that most of his friends didnt even start as friends, prime example being Tien, who literally tried to kill Goku more than once but turned over a new leaf after their fight

APD, or ASPD as you call it, is not just sociopathy, it can be generalized as anything that causes anti-social behavior. Anti social behavior can be defined as anything that is ant society, murder, commiting crimes, you get it. Psycopathy and sociopathy are just the most common forms. Not saying you aren't aware of this, I am just elaborating to cover things that you missed because they aren't relevant to the video

It's no wonder people praise my content so much when videos like this are the vast majority of my competition. The anime/manga "analysis" sphere is a joke. It's the reason I hesitate to tell people what I do on KZbin, especially irl. And don't get me started on Sage's Rain. He's hailed as some analytical guru when he's just as unsightly as the rest of them. I'm convinced people get gaslit into thinking his commentary is profound because of his voice. There's creators like craftsdwarf, who actually have something to say, but almost never get the viewership they deserve, while these other creators rack in the profits from sub-par nonsense. The fact that a video with the subject of "Goku being a sociopath?????" Has such a high view count says a lot about the community, and it's nothing good. Strive for better media, people!!!

I'm glad someone finally made a vid on Goku's morality! I think it's pretty cool to witness his character development from lonely kid to kind-hearted savior! I find him to be similar to Batman in the sense that he's really reluctant towards delivering that final blow. Sure he's made some selfish and not logical choices along the way, but I certainly consider him very heroic and selfless - just look at how he decides to remain dead cuz it Might keep ppl safe or how he's in distress when Cell, Vegeta and Buu commits genocide. Haha no wonder the Devil-Beam didn't affect him xP In Super he's just a selfish retard.. It's actually quite sad

as an anime viewer only, i like to think of goku giving cell the senzu bean as a NECESSARY act. could be entirely wrong, but it could be argued that with cell being as worn out as he was, he wouldnt have been able to dominate gohan as easily, so he might nit have had enough energy to actually push gohan to unleash his hidden power, just wnough in the tank to squeeze out the win

The Senzu Bean. ~ Characters intelligence being underestimated as usual. Ah yes Team 4 Star in a way somehow doing something but not the biggest effect completely or shouldn't be. ~~ Decisions... Kaio-KenX4... Unknown factor... Yay. Damn the way you explain this makes me think I'm a Sociopath. That anime Planet. ~~~ Red Ribbon Gero... The Army... That's kinda hmm... I think the moments fine but I guess I do understand how it could have been written differently especially with all of Cells ability the powerscale didn't have to change even if Cell was more tired out. I miss your Gohan Video... I deadass don't know why Goku didn't teleport King Kai away even if Goku wanted to die he should have like yeeted King Kai or teleported him down and just teleported back. Full SSJ2. Since he had a 3. But the time frame but hmm... Nice Z.

Ever since Dragon Ball first started, Goku was shown to not be right in the head, it is unknown if that is due to his head injury as a baby, but even though his body grew up I feel that he never fully matured on the inside. People have been overexaggerating his intelligence for years, the issue even became much worse after TFS took their hand into portraying him as a character, and I think that even some higher ups at Toei took notice of TFS, because I swear that Super has just been making Goku dumber for comedic purposes, and it didn't use to be like that, because just take a look at what GT was where sure he had a few funny childish moments, but he was usually taking threats seriously, and he counted on his family and friends to help him out, and he even tried training Uub up so that he could become the next protector, even though it was unfortunate that it didn't go anywhere..

Interesting video!! However Goku clearly isnt a sociopath. For 1 he isnt human and that alone could explain alot of his choices, like his incredibly selfish thirst for battle (i know u mention this but its still relevant for his defence). And 2 the biggest indicator of someone with this type of personality disorder is they struggle to form emotional connections, Goku clearly has a strong connection with alot of people and shows alot of empathy, not to mention his pure heartedness. Good video tho i enjoyed watching

i don’t know why this is so hard to understand it’s the reason gohan acts so different when he’s powered up he’s tapping into his sayian side
