I am liking to compare or contrast the "curd" with the "ice cream" , the cigar smoking man with the emperor. I get an opening here to this cryptic poem. What these things are I haven't found out yet but those two differently are being compared.

Good evening ma'am. I read this poem in my textual analysis class. About this "ice cream" our teacher said that in cuba when there's a funeral, people serve ice cream and it represents death, coldness and whiteness of a dead body. She had the same idea as you mentioned in your video that the only real thing is death.

I was under the impression that the roller of big cigars was being called to carry out the body. But that's the lovely thing about poetry....it can mean many things to many different readers.

I first read this poem in Stephen Kings's "Salem's Lot". I have always been fascinated with it. I'm glad to be able to hear this analysis and interpretation. I remember using this poem for my composition class in college.

I know it's been 8 years, but I just met you today. I am so happy to have done so. "Let be be finale of seem."... How Goddamn beautiful!! Thank you for making this video. This is one of my favorite poems. (" La Belle Dame Sans Merc"i is my favorite) Your interpretation was enlightening. Ice cream melts. It is so transitory, and so concupiscioent! Just like life. "Gather ye rosebuds while ye may." Thanks again, I cannot express how much I have enjoyed our rather one-sided conversation. Nice to meet you.

Hello. I love the way you made this poem so easy to understand.

It is pronounced con-KYOO-puh-sent, not CON-kyoo-PEH-sent. This makes an important difference to the rhythm. If the word is pronounced the latter way, the rhythm stumbles. If it is pronounced the conventional way, the rhythm continues to flow as a rising one, with iambs and anapests: . . . and BID / him WHIP In KITCH- / en CUPS / conCU / piscent CURDS.

Very nice video! Your evaluation of "The Emperor of Ice Cream" is so constructive and I agree with the notion that this has a lot to do with reproducing and sexual desire. I plan to propose this as an idea for a future episode of Literary Gladiators. Glad to see you have new material, too! -Josh

Not challenging. It’s a deep but delightful riddle. It’s a paean for his Muse: Emily Dickinson. Plenty of clues.
