A what if DET didn’t mortgage the future for Blake would be awesome & original. Never seen any1 do it. They drafted Kennard in the ‘17 draft at 12, DMitch went 13 who I BADLY wanted at the time bc I thought he had the higher upside. Then that season SVG went for the home-run trade at 17-18 deadline to try & save his job. Maybe you could start in 16-17 or so and fire SVG and takeover? If we decided to full rebuild back then with a new good GM we’d likely already be back in a really good spot. I’m happy with where we are now obviously, but it’d be awesome to see what could’ve happened back then. Maybe a 4-5yr rebuild since it’s gonna basically be a full tear down? That’d be soooo awesome, thanks Matt. I provide more details below if you need them (like the exact trade details, when it happened, why, etc) It was 2017-2018 a cpl weeks b4 the deadline. DET was 22-26 when they made the trade. Tobias, Avery Bradley, Boban, a 2018 1st (T4 protected in 18, 19, and 20…if it somehow didn’t convey by then it was unprotected in 21), & 2019 2nd for Blake on that new max deal & 2 random filler players. Avery Bradley was still valuable at the time, was like under 1.5yrs removed from making All-Defense 1st team and could hit open 3s. Tobias had 2yrs left on his deal at a good number, was starting to ball for DET and was only 25yo. Like 17/5 on like 47/38/86 and 51.5% 2P. The 2018 1st ended up being pick 12. LAC traded 12 and two future 2nds to move up to 11 and get SGA. Blake had signed a 5yr/$171M max deal with a player option in the summer of 2017. So DET was taking on the entire 5yr contract. That’d be his age 28-32 seasons, and he’d just missed 47 games in 15-16 not including their last 2 playoff games. Missed 21 games in 16-17, not including their last 4 playoff games when they were up 2-1 v UTA and lost in 7. He’d also only played 33 out of 49 games for LAC in 17-18 before the trade.
