FILM DESCRIPTION:
With the occasion all but overshadowed by her sister's upcoming wedding, angst-ridden Samantha (Molly Ringwald) faces her 16th birthday with typical adolescent dread. Samantha pines for studly older boy Jake (Michael Schoeffling), but worries that her chastity will be a turnoff for the popular senior. Meanwhile, Samantha must constantly rebuff the affections of nerdy Ted (Anthony Michael Hall), the only boy in the school, unfortunately, who seems to take an interest in her.

I read in the comments on some clips from Edward Scissorhands that these were the kinds of roles that Hall wanted to somehow counteract and that was why they finally picked him to play the dangerous bully in that movie.

He is absolutely clueless. Couldn’t stop laughing when he said “Very encouraging.” I don’t think so. Boys need to learn, this is definitely not the way to approach a girl. And if she is that hostile from the start, it might be a good idea to move along, anything more just isn’t going to happen.
