I’ve been trying to acquire some fundamental patching skills, and I reckon it’s time I came to grips with feedback.
I don’t really like the sound of feedback; I find it disorienting, sometimes nauseous, and pretty much always unpleasant. Still, I’ve been listening to all those Dutch blokes for a few years now, and I like what they did. Success, certainly, lies in comping and editorial choices. But there’s definitely room to wiggle in the patch itself, and there’s a certain ludic quality to feedback patching that I enjoy: tweak a little too aggressively, and it can go haywire quickly, but coax the parameters, give them time to develop, and even patch in certain control mechanisms that will help the patch “correct” itself, and we’ll find certain moments both calming and delightful.
I mean, you can definitely fuck shit up, too.
Anyway, very much a learning experience here, and probably one of many, because I’ve just paid Vimeo money.
This is a “Vintage Voltron 4” panel. There’s also a Bagoly frequency shifter in Loudest Warning format, some Stroh utilities, and - off-camera, a piezo-mic’d Tibetan bowl.
Here are some artists who’ve done some pretty great things with the auld feedback:

Here are some feedback evangelists with KZbin channels and Patreons and the like. Many of them favor Serge and extol the format’s virtues, but you can do this sort of thing with mixers and effects pedals, too. “The view belongs to everyone,” and don’t let anyone tell you otherwise:
