As to the question, "How could he land someone like Liz" -- narcissists tend to reflect their target's better qualities back at them so the target essentially is captivated by their own better nature in the love-bombing phase of toxic relationships. Especially if you grew up with toxic relationships, you're going to respond to behaviors that are familiar to you and if you've been in a toxic relationship it's those familiar mirroring behaviors that draw you in. When people say, "Oh, they're just addicted to the abuse" -- nah, it's not the abuse that's addicting, it's the love-bombing phase that's addicting. Dopamine and serotonin are like crack.

its so bizarre that this series started out as laughing at a weird goofy thumb to the examination of a sad, vain, and toxic man with no real direction. this series was a ride and it really helped me personally realise some of my own flaws when it came to relationships and self help. Ive recently been in a situation where I had to make a choice of changing myself for the better or ignoring the issue at heart and losing multiple people and lose myself to an extent. Big Ed is like a look into what I could become if i don't get my act together, a selfish and toxic person who craves attention, admiration, and sex.
