hi great video, do you know the layout of the 10-person rooms? wondering where room 1a is, is it closest to the showers when you walk into the suite or the living area?

Hello! We made the video before UCSD decided to make Sixth college dorms have triple bedrooms. UCSD has not updated the layouts yet, but two rooms in the suite will now be triple bedrooms. The layout of the 10-person room will be the same as an 8-person room, but now two of the rooms will be triples. Here is the layout for an 8-person suite: hdh.ucsd.edu/housing/docs/6thNTPLLN-Kaleidoscope.pdf (it is also in the video description). When your student checks the roommate assignments (an email was released by UCSD on Friday, August 19), they will be able to see what building they are in, what Floor, what suite #, and what room number they are in. It is listed like this: (Building)-(Floor)(Suite)-(Room Number) KA-1005-2a Kaleidoscope, 10th Floor, 5th Suite, 2nd room. There will also be a list of people they share the room with (if they choose not to have a single room). If there are two students with the "KA-1005-2a" code, they are in a double. But now that there are triples, three students will have the "KA-1005-2a" code next to their name. Thank you for watching our video! We hope this helps :)

Sixth has really nice dorms but No AC is a bummer, especially for such a new building. I live in Warren and we don't have AC here either, but Warren has much better windows in the rooms. There's the big window that swings open but there's also a bottom window section that flips up. This is especially nice for putting a small fan on the window ledge for cooling down the room overnight during the hot parts of the year.

Thanks for your video. It was a great pleasure to watch it. Do residential halls have a kitchen? Sorry, didn’t get it.
@gracerivera2254

Residential halls contain first year dorms, RA apartments, and second year apartments. First year dorms have a communal kitchen on each floor. Second year apartments, ranging from 4-6 people (unsure if they will start making triple rooms in those) have their own kitchen.

Hi! I really enjoyed watching your video! I’m a upcoming 1st year at sixth this year and on the housing portal it gave us the option to have a triple. I was wondering if you knew anything about the triple layout at sixith college or anything about the topic in general?
@faithgrace7301
@faithgrace7301 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! So we were told as incoming freshmen last year that Sixth college only has double rooms- but because of the housing crisis and the influx of students choosing Sixth college for its many benefits, they're increasing it to triples now. Our best guess is that you will still be placed in the double room, but now there will be a bunk bed and one bed lofted over a desk. The two students sharing a bunk bed will have their desks in separate corners, and the person in the single bed will have their desk underneath them where the lower bed should be.

I noticed there was a fridge in the dorm room, can I know the measurements of it? I'm planning to have one too.
@faithgrace7301
@faithgrace7301 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Our refrigerator was 4 cubic feet (which is or is close to the limit for refrigerators you can bring into the dorms). The dimensions are 42.78 Inches (H) x 19.13 Inches (W) x 21.61 Inches (D).

Love the video! I wanted to bring my own chair instead of using the one provided, but where do we put the unused chair? Do we have to keep it in our room?
@faithgrace7301
@faithgrace7301 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! We brought our own chairs (the black rolling chairs). Housing services will not remove the chair out of your room. Our room had a cement pillar jutting out of the wall, so we could squeeze in the provided chairs next to it. However, not all rooms have this pillar. You could always place it next to your dresser to put things on top of. Another suggestion is that you can put it in your suite lounge by the couch-- but you **must** make sure that when you move out of your dorm, the chair is back inside your room, or you will be charged!

It says the drawer inside the closet is 37” wide and that the whole closet is 40”. Is it a typo and that the drawer is supposed to say 27” wide?

Hi thanks for the video! So I’m curious is this the apartments or the res halls? And in the res halls for example, catalyst, do they have their own bathrooms to share amongst roommates or the whole floor?
@faithgrace7301
@faithgrace7301 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! This video covers the dorms. Mosaic, Catalyst, Tapestry, and Kaleidoscope are called "residential (res) halls". Each of these buildings/"res halls" have a combination of apartments and dorms. Rather than a floor with just a bunch of rooms down one hallway, Sixth College dorm rooms are inside of a suite. There are several suites on 1 floor. It's nice to have this model because it provides an extra layer of security, quietness, and privacy. You need an individualized PIN to get into a suite (UCSD student ID card) and another individualized key to get into a room (a brass key). Each suite has a set of bathrooms that are shared amongst roommates. However, each floor also has 1 unisex bathroom that can be accessed by anyone who happens to be on the floor (e.g., guests, housekeeping, etc.).

How do you do laundry? I understand there is a laundry area at sixth. In addition, I didn’t see AC, there’s AC right?
@faithgrace7301
@faithgrace7301 2 жыл бұрын
About Laundry: Other colleges have the laundromat in a separate buildings, but the laundromats at Sixth College are located on a designated floor inside each residence hall building. So it's like a regular laundromat, with separate washers and dryers that the entire building shares. There is no designated time for students to do laundry- students are in charge of making sure they take out their laundry when the timer runs out! Sometimes during peak hours, others will take out your laundry from the machine and put it on the table inside the room. You can use TritonCash (linked to your student account, separate from Dining Dollars) by tapping your ID card on the credit card machine inside the room. Or, you can use a regular credit card by tapping or swiping on the reader. Each load is ~ USD 1.25, and if you need extra time for drying, it allows you to add 15 extra minutes for an additional 15 or 20 cents. We brought our laundry detergent, but on-campus markets sell detergent and dryer sheets. About AC: There is no AC in any of the UCSD residential halls, no matter what college you belong to :( There is a heating system inside every room and in the suite. It looks like an AC, but it's not an AC. We brought our own desk fans and a larger fan for our bedroom to share. This kept our room pretty fresh, even during the warmer months. Hope this helps!

hihi, do u think it’s possible to move the closet and face it the same way as the bed? (in the single room) not sure if that makes sense but i want the closet against the wall where the head of the bed is, but idk if it’ll fit between the gap
@faithgrace7301
@faithgrace7301 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! It'll definitely depend on the room itself (not all rooms are the same because of triples/those gray concrete slabs on the wall). However, you can definitely move the closet, you'll just have to see if your room will allow you to fit it perfectly in the gap.

Is air fryer allowed?
@faithgrace7301
@faithgrace7301 2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Technically, UCSD Residential Life Community standards state that heat-producing kitchen appliances can only be used in the dorm kitchen. For first-year housing, this would be the floor kitchen. However, many students bring air fryers to store and use them inside their suite or bedroom.
