@Vertigo9907 Wing Chun has its own broadswords. I think the English translation is Butterfly swords. They are shorter and straighter, with an S-shaped handguard, and usually used in pairs.

You're Wushu 297! No way!! YOU"RE WUSHU 297!!!! I don't think I ever actually watched this one before, it's pretty dope. Especially the dramatic pause and solo change of camera angle.

to me the most impressive thing about these forms on the internet is that they can these things without their shirts ever riding up on them. lol jk. but seriously this is a really good form and this guy is just bloody fantastic.

In Northen style Chinese forms there normally isn't vocal yelling for power like in Karate styled katas, the "snapping" sound fills that void.

From what I've heard many, if not all of the soul calibur's characters have movements from actual martial artists, like the long sword, snake and drunken style

@Vertigo9907 I've never seen a dao associated with wing chun. Butterfly knives are usually their blade of choice.

dancing? its form and technique mostly. put a real sword in his hand and that just gives more power his strikes. if you notice the way he moves, speed isn't sacrificed at all regardless of what he's holding because he strikes when the weapon is balanced. u can tell when someone sucks when the blade wobbles too much. this guy has very balanced and firm strikes. the real sword he would use for practical purposes is the "dao"
@bladesaint21

Hey good luck with the competition! The problem movement where people were cutting themselves seemed to be the downward "Flower" twirl and for a split second the blade goes behind the back tucking under the armpit. I havn't had a problem in quite a long time but when my classmate got cut, for 2 weeks seemed like everyone was cutting themselves with the same move. *LOL* I wouldn't expect the same thing with the straightsword since its so light but you never know. Train hard.
@bladesaint21
@bladesaint21 16 жыл бұрын
No prob, and those who don't respect the thin "flimsy" blade OBVIOUSLY havnt worked with it, judge it on what they see on KZbin or heard from friends, because since its so light it can be moved at incredibly fast speed, you can't do much damage stabbing with it BUT... though its not "sharp" it will stil cut the hell out of you if you get in its way.

@Vertigo9907 Well in orthodox (oldschool shaolin temple-like) wing chun, yeah, but in authentic (modern, yip man style) wing chun, i'm not so sure, but I think so.

Celaniix5, I can't believe the ignorant comments either. If anyone were to try practicing a routine that quickly with a combat weight weapon, it would result in repetitive-stress-injury i.e....tennis elbow! So when people say "tinfoil weapons" I have to wonder if they can actually move like wushu athletes. Funny...when I learned this form in the 1990's, it was THE compulsory form for international competition...now its a 6th duan routine. I feel old now!

@SkyKingAzure 13 жыл бұрын
The sword is suppose to move like that - it's a competition sword made to be light, flexible and allow for the snapping sound to show the power of the thrust behind it. We can't stab someone or something with it to show the power during a forms competition so that's the best solution we have. :P And yes, this is a FORM, not the application of the movements, just a FORM.

Yeah, you cant stab someone however you can definitely cut them if you sharpen your broadswords sharp part.

Its thin for competition reasons to make the "Snap"sound for drama and tell the judges he's thrusting with sufficient power. It's not supposed to be a real sword.
@L0rd_Br0tat0
@L0rd_Br0tat0 14 жыл бұрын
dude that would be so moch impressive if the dao was not paper thin and floppy. I mean that weapon was designed to cut through armors. That could'nt cut through butter. But if you forget about that, nice flexibility and technique, even if it lacks strength

@xiaochen1 oh no no no! i think you've got me all wrong. i dont think that at all. I am a wushu practitioner. I do believe that with hard work it can be applied to a real fight. i dont know what my last comment was so i apologize if it was ignorant and stupid. Now that i've progressed alot in my training i have a deeper understanding of gung fu and wushu. i really dont think all of it is for show.

Maybe if a kid amateur cuts himself, I'm talking about a world class adult player swinging that weapon. You will bleed like hell if you get cut with that thing. A classmate of mine who was a national champion has the nastiest scar just above the right elbow from not getting stitches, not to mention ruining that nice yellow silk uniform from all the blood.
