as someone who has just finished year 13 - i definitely found the biggest jump was from year 12 to year 13 in terms of content and difficulty but also because you’re trying to do 10 things at once: applying to uni, learning to drive, working a part time job etc etc. if im honest, i really wasn’t ready for how big of a difference it was. it can be really hard to find a balance and there will be periods of time where you burn yourself out so please make sure you look after yourself and be patient. it’s going to be a hard year but you can absolutely do it

If I’m being honest, I care less about making friends, but more about getting the grades I need. I have friends all over the place, but here is one guy, that I’m best friends with. He doesn’t have as big goals as I do, I think, but he’s a mate, and I’ve known him for years.

@@temix_ exactly. That’s why I took a roughly 6 month break from talking to him through my GCSEs, and I got 5 grade 6s, 4 grade 7s and a single grade 8 in maths. Fast forward and we are still friends, because he understood my need to succeed. Ready to now attempt 3 A*s with the newly learnt skills I can take into A-levels

I honestly dk who to ask abt this but I wanna choose between 2 sixth forms and idk which one to choose so I'd be really grateful if anyone could help me out😭 One of the schools is further away and I don't know a single person going there and I went to the induction and I was completely alone cuz that sixth form is linked to a few schools so everyone had a friend group and I was the only one without a friend which was embarrassing but I found the school and teachers really nice and supportive. the other school is closer and I know a few people going there but there's also people I despise going there and I don't think the actual school is as good in terms of support compared to the one further away. so I'm so unsure of what to doo😭😭

I’m highkey, low-key in the same situation however, I’m just gonna choose the school with better educational needs despite the fact ppl I don’t like are going, I know I’ll find new friends :)) just stay optimistic

@@damola2556 Yeah I think I’ve decided to go to the one with better education too because ik I’ll make friends it’s just the start is gonna be a bit more difficult 😭

Friendship groups tend to disban at the start of sixthfrom anyway. You don't see it on induction day, but when the school year starts it's pretty obvious. People are in completely different classes, tutors and frees. It creates new dynamics, and makes it very easy to make friends, especially as everyone is suddenly a lot more mature and open to new people. I would suggest going with the more supportive school, as that will have a big impact on your education and the kind of person you become. However, if there are people going to the other one that you really want to stay in touch with, than it's fine to pick it just because of that. You can always stay in touch with people outside of school, but it's never the same as you aren't constantly seeing each other. I can't really offer much advice on the people you don't like, guess it depends on how bad they are. The distance factor is also a fair point against going to that sixthfrom. If it's a long walking distance, I would advise cycling. But if you have to take a car or bus then you can always listen to podcasts and music on the way, which can help you start the day on a good note. In the end it's your decision. I had a kind of similar decision to make, and what I did to help was make a list of pros and cons for each school, and I tried to imagine being in each one. Hope this helps and have a lovely rest of summer!

@rowanemiily Жыл бұрын
only if you feel like you need to! at my college anyone who got below a 7 in gcse maths had to do it!
@portablegoose Жыл бұрын
hi, ik you weren't asking me but I think this is something I can help with a little. It depends a lot on what you want to pursue as a career or degree, and how much work you think you'll be able to manage. Core maths goes very well with those other subjects, and it can make your application to uni more attractive should you choose to pursue a STEM subject further. However, maths A level requires a lot of study regardless of whether it's core or not, so if you feel like the workload will be too much, it would be better to stick to three subjects. Generally, universities will prefer you get three good final grades than four that are average/below average due to not being able to manage them properly. If you think you can manage all of those at once, then I'd absolutely go with it! Core maths can really strengthen your ability in all those other subjects, especially where chemistry and psychology are concerned, and some degrees actually require maths to apply, just be be wary that it will mean you have significantly more work. If you aren't sure whether or not you'll be able to manage it, it may be a good idea to take it, then drop it later on if you're finding it too difficult. Lots of people change their subjects within the first month or so, so dropping one shouldn't be a problem.
@strawbeary.6501 Жыл бұрын
@portablegoose thank you for telling me in detail ❤️ i think ill wait see if my gcse maths result is good and if not ill continue to work on it in core maths. I just feel like it would be a lot to balance for me bc i dont rlly know how to manage my time well enough to be able to do 4 subjects
