Something I’d like to add to this….Be VERY mindful of the curbing along the roadside so you don’t have your pedal hit it on the ‘down stroke’….right side AND left, as applicable. Give cars their room, but be sure to use what YOU need!

One thing I saw you do that was the same recommendation I saw made for regular motorcycle drivers. When you’re making a left turn in a left turn lane stay to the inside of the lane preferably about a full bike length behind the line. A lot of cars will cut through the corner rather quickly and close. It’s like you’re invisible and they simply don’t see you. At a left turn lane the worst location you could possibly be in is the left side of the lane just behind the line. Yes I definitely recommend a good set of large bike mirrors. Keep a good eye on what’s coming up behind you at a traffic stop. Don’t automatically think that the vehicle coming up behind you will see you. Raise your arms and shake them if you have to. Anything to get the attention of a distracted driver..

Mirrors. Once you ride with them you can't go back.

Before you get going, install a left side mirror, as important as a helmet.

I ride very seldom on streets, but I do have blinking lights on front and back. But one thing in riding too close to curb is the possibility of picking up nails, screws and running over glass.

I live in Ohio, which offers 1,523 miles of bike trails. I haven't ridden a bike since the early 90s but today I am receiving my first E-bike today. I've started watching your videos, so I'll be more informed on how to operate my bike. Thank you for these videos.

I’ve ridden my e-bike 3 times and quickly realized I needed mirrors so I ordered some that go into the handle bars. The thing he didn’t do or mention is you need to be looking at every intersection well before you pass through. NEVER assume a car will stop at a stop sign or even before the imaginary line. Even if there’s no stop sign on your end just watch before you cross any street. Even if you’re at an actual cross walk with a light, watch to make sure all the cars are stopping before you proceed. People really don’t pay attention to even red lights. Be careful out there!

Good video Brother. I ride safe and just for me on my trips. I have noticed pple riding care free, without helmet's and in the rd as if everyone driving a car is going to notice and respect them. The more I have seen and heard about hit and runs with e-bikes and e-scooters, I make sure I ride steady and safe. 👍😇

Excellent video with great tips. Miami Beach / South Florida has the same rules concerning bike lanes, sharing the lane. Just got the SixThreeZero E-bike and love it!

Another good video. May seem basic, but many of us are just starting out and need the bike review. I've watch dozens of fairly new Aventure Owners who, when riding through neighborhoods NEVER stop at a stop sign and just cruise through the intersection when no other cars are nearby. Seems a natural thing to do, but maybe should not be done. Thoughts? Another question: In this video there were numerous sidewalks while you were otherwise 'sharing' the 1 lane. Are you allowed to be on the sidewalk? Seems much safer verses a car driver not giving you a little leeway. I'd much rather go a little slower on a sidewalk rather than 'sharing' a road, I think.

Look up the Idaho Stop. Essentially bikes are safest when treating stop signs like yield signs. Yes you should keep your head on a swivel and always look but as a cyclist you want to spend as little time at an intersection as possible. Cyclists need to keep up their momentum and should only come to a complete stop when necessary.

Useful though as a newbie (plus I’m old) I’d never drive on streets like that. Right now I’m specifically interested in my neighborhood issue: parked cars. I want to learn how to bike when you don’t want to take over the road but of course don’t want to be doored

what i do is claim the lane when i am approaching a congested area of parked cars/obstacles on the right, and then go back on the right side once it has cleared. legallly, you are allowed to claim the lane when there is something blocking your path on the right. while cars might get mad at you, it is legal. another option is walking the bike on the sidewalk while ur near the parked cars.

Great advice but lacking many safety things one should also do. Use a front light and rear light for safety. A mirror is a must along with brightly covered clothes or vest. I personally think its too dangerous to ride in the street like a car so I rarely do....I stick to bike lanes and roads less traveled by cars. Too many crazy drivers on the road where I live so its just not worth the risk of pretending a 70 pound e-bike is a car...ty

Where I live, I have to ride in the road, even though there is a bike lane. When they swept the sand and salt off the road, they swept it into the bike lane. Some of the sand is more like rocks. So, I ride in the road until a car comes up behind me and I drift over to the bike lane until the car goes by.

@@CoryASMR riding on a sidewalk then coming off the sidewalk into an intersection surprises drivers. I’ve done it and it was not a comfortable situation. In my city, it is legal to ride on the sidewalk. Some lanes are so narrow that I must ride the sidewalk. In that situation I will go off the sidewalk when approaching an intersection if it is safe to do so. Every circumstance is different so ride with flexibility, but stick to the street as much as possible.

thanks for making the video but... The first stop sign you pissed off the driver waiting for you to do something. Flow at the same speed as traffic. Hey? What happens when the left turn light doesn't change and you are just sitting there? What about no bike lane on a 35mph street? And you got a unused sidewalk? I would use the sidewalk because my safety is more important than a car pushing me up against the curb. Then there is grass to go around walkers. I find that the rules for bikes are not based in reality, vs. safety. Then there is the rule of respect which gets very little attention. Lots of grey areas around ebikes.

Sorry, but you merge/lane switch like my mother. You got to at lest give people a bit more of a warning before you switch because you signal right as you start merging which I am telling you. That's going to get you hit sooner or later. The only other real big error was you going into the far left lane at 6:07 which clearly wasn't needed since you could have made a left in the right lane and gotten to the far right much easier/quicker by doing so. Otherwise, pretty good basic tips for bike riding. PS: I know this is just a little nitpicky but I hear it every time. if Ebikes are ridden like are meant to be on the street. "Not going above 25MPH" than they actually are just as fast as a normal bike. It just easier for us non athlete to reach those speeds.

You are really over confident riding so close to parked cars. Hitting an opening car door will be very disappointing. By the way. Only bicycle accident I ever had was age 15 while delivering 214 Sunday Newspapers in Phoenix Arizona. A Police car drifted over to my opposite side of a 4 lane street, hitting me head on. He continued another 100 yards and hit a palm tree. Drunk as a skunk on duty. Boy did the police cover that one up fast. Nope I don't even trust a police car to drive like a sane driver. I was unhurt but all the papers and bike were destroyed.
