I am 73 years old, a big chap and I hadn’t ridden a bike for over 20 years. After receiving my eBike(Himiway Big Dog), assembling it and adding mirrors, replacement seat and fitting a bike alarm, I took it to my local recreation ground to get familiar with it. After 2 hours and 4 miles I felt pretty comfortable and at ease on the eBike. I carried out a few adjustments to the eBike during the ride. Thank you for posting this very informative video.

I’m 67 and just bought my first e-bike, a Magnum Pilot mid-drive. Loved this video. He nailed it. Best trick? Use the throttle to start the bike and then pedal. I’m 5’6”, 125 lbs and ride a 75 pound e-bike. I can pedal to start, but why? Also, unless you do yoga, get a step through. It makes stopping gracefully so much easier. Happy trails!

I’m 66, and very active. I ride regular and E-Bikes, For years I have used unisex or step-thru. Even if you can easily mount a standard bike, you may not be able to do it consistently as you ride more. And if using a rear basket, you will have to raise your leg even higher.

Love the birds riding the thermals behind you! I bought my first eBike (Lectric XP Lite) last November/sale to replace my van for most of what I was using it for. Short runs (>2mi), for groceries, etc and occasionally 10-12mi round trip. St Louis winters are not as brutal as what I've seen but we still get ice and plenty of precipitation so I've only put about 70 miles on it so far. It came with the accessories I needed and I am happy with my purchase. My brother who lives near Long Island Sound has had an eBike for a few years and said he has had zero issues with his so I felt confident about the quality - even though he has a different brand. My biggest issue is the roads are too dangerous to share with cars/trucks. All the roads that will take you off the main thoroughfare (MT) lead into mazes that do no run parallel to the MT, so maybe add 5 miles to stay on safe roads...but I'm still new at finding my new routes with a bike. 67 here...subscribed and look forward to watching more of your content! All good points for the older crowd that still has a spunk in their life ! I have sold the last of my motorcycles at the age of 72 . I am looking at e-bikes and contemplating buying one ! I have been a defensive driver all my life and have stayed alive because of it ! Things have changed drastically since In started driving in the mid 60’s . The one and only thing that concerns me is closing speed of vehicles behind me and if those drivers are paying attention ! I think I will stay within my neighborhood and trails as such . The power of a motorcycle can get you out of trouble that an e-bike can’t on secondary roads !

This is the most excellent video. I've been cycling all types of bikes You can name all My life. Im 76 now. I got into e- Bikes 2 years ago and have ridden over 6,000 miles. The points You bring here are so important for the New Senior Class. I understood all Your info. Helmets need stressing as You did. I've seen some hurtful crashes with the no helmet crowd and it's sad. Thanks for all this. Now just get to the people that need to see it.

As someone who has ridden motorcycles since I was 8 years old, owned close to 40 motorcycles, and ridden over a million miles, including a few Iron Butt rides, I don't think I have anything to worry about. I'm just waiting for you to come out with a bike in a normal color (NOT flat black) Chrome or bright aluminum wheels, blackwall tires, and a black seat and grips

I’m an 86 year old woman who has an ebike. Your best tip is using the throttle to start. I tried to start with peddling from a stop and fell over sideways and the bike was on top of me and pretty heavy. I ended up breaking my elbow. But someone gave me the tip about starting with the throttle and now it’s much easier, but I’d like a lighter bike!

I AGREE ABOUT THE THROTTLE THING WHEN TAKING OFF AFTER STOPPING.

One thing that I didn’t expect is how to wrangle the e bike when stopping. My Lectric XP 3.0 is very heavy compared to a pedal bike. The seat should be adjusted so you can touch the ground with at least your toes. Apply the brakes and keep at least one brake applied as you dismount. If your feet aren’t firmly on the ground, say you’re on your tiptoes, and our brake isn’t applied, he motion of dismounting can start the bike rolling before you get your feet planted so you may fall over with the bike. Practicing riding in an empty parking lot is an excellent idea. I suggest making a point of practicing stopping in the parking lot or on level grass. One more thing. I find that having my seat adjusted for safe stopping is not ideal for me when pedaling because I would like to have my legs extend a little straighter. Maybe more practice will allow me to raise the seat but that will probably require me to jump forward off the seat to plant my feet on the ground when stopping. That will take practice because I haven’t ridden any kind of bike for at least 5 years. Because I started out with the seat height ideal for pedaling, I was too high off the ground to plant my foot on the ground so the top heavy, massive bike just pulled me to the ground with it when stopped. Keeping my balance when moving forward is a piece of cake.

Excellent video. I went from a road bike to an etrike, several years ago. Just bought a Velotrek Discover 2. I spent al lot of time researching ebikes. The biggest question for me was mid or hub drive. My trike is a mid drive. Thanks again, Bob

Thanks for the info and advice. I'll be 69 soon. Considering the Cannondale Adventure Allroad Speed, for the extra range, if not the excessive power. Have to drive from Charlotte to Asheville tomorrow, to see one in stock. Can ride a bike, but never been on an electric. Thanks again.

1. Don't use the throttle, you need the exercise. 2. Don't get fixated on the display and ride into the back of a parked car. 3. Don't break the speed limit. 4. Don't forget to charge the bike, pedaling a 70 lb. bike 15 miles home without assist might kill you. 5. Wear a helmet. 6. You don't need more than 500 watts. 7. You need a mirror, that old neck doesn't turn well. 8. Ride it like you are driving a car, on the correct side of the street, use turn signals so cars know what you're doing, etc. 9. Get a bright red flashing tail light if the bike doesn't have one. 10. A step-through bike might be best for you.

Equivalent rules like these apply to driving cars too, and we should have implemented national driver education and defensive driving standards for cars years ago. But, we didn’t and now we are paying for it, and lots of idiots won’t listen anyways. So, same thing here, I see lots of idiots on the trails. I just saw a KZbin video yesterday of someone reviewing an e-bike, and during his test ride, he ran a red light and drove in level 5 through 2 stop signs in a residential neighborhood. Expect the worst with these, speed kills. The e-bikes are way heavier and faster - remember when we outlawed 3-wheelers because of safety concerns and too many deaths? And, don’t forget liability - if you don’t have insurance, you can get sued if you hit someone or cause an accident with these.

Just so E Bikers stay off paths and trails marked "no motorized vehicles".
@barry4fish19
@barry4fish19 9 ай бұрын
The “no motorized vehicles” signs you see on trails are referring to internal combustion engines (they burn fuel as power). Therefore, e-bikes are not excluded. But, some places are having to re-write the rules.
