Actually neither high notes nor feelings are the most important. Technique & health is probably the biggest foundation for any singer- if a singer can't do those, then the feelings/emotions will come out wrong and/or they can damage their vocal chords. that said, one of the best things about dreamcatcher is that happyface seems to allow them to sing in a comfortable range that actually sounds powerful.

I don't realy know much about vocal techniques and stuff but there is one thing I do know: bad vocals technique damages your vocal cords (other wise it wouldn't be a bad technique, just a different approach)... I won’t lie I started stanning DREAMCATCHER mainly bc of Siyeon. Like the first time I heard it I fell in love. After I heard her singing I decided to check out DC more in depth. No regrets. I’m an old Kpop fan (2nd gen but most of them are not active that much anymore) but DC is the only recent group that I will be stanning forever. And I’m telling you they WILL BE BIG! James Rholdan Piedad everyone strains at one point. However, Hyolyn is able to consistently support up to E5, occasionally up to F5 nowadays (again). During her prime she was able to consistently resonate up to F5 with occasional support up to F#5 (like the F#5 in the "Bang Bang" cover with Ailee). Except for Hyolyn, Haeri and Ailee no other kpop idol has ever reached that level. Taeyeon and Wendy are able to support up to D5 (without head voice), UJi up to D5 as well, Luna up to Eb5.. there is still a noticeable gap to the other 3. So, I feel like it's a big stretch to say that she strains when she supports higher than pretty much every female KPOP vocalist except for 2. Yuju, Wendy, Taeyeon etc. all start to strain in a range where Hyolyn is still able to resonate. And Siyeon.. Siyeon starts straining in the upper 4th! octave. She is slightly weaker than Rosé from a technical point of view and even Rosie is very average. Also, of course you can sing in different genres with a flawed vocal technique. That doesn't stop you from having musicality. It just means that you lack when it comes to breath support, precision etc. You can have a nice understanding of music + a singing talent despite being a very flawed vocalist.

@@flamex4real Your statement is very opinion based which I appreciate that you admit, because 4/4 of the mamamoo members have vocal support while only 1.5/7 of the DC crew has vocal support. (Alot of people say siyeon has 0 vocal support but I disagree, she has showed vocal support at times so I give her a 0.5). Since alot of people here don't know the definition of support and keep throwing it around and around, I decided I'll do the explanation myself. However, I love DC's vocals and I also wish they get more recognition, they certainly have alot of good singers there, It's just that you cannot compare them to Mamamoo in all honesty. My Support Terminology: What is vocal support? It is engaging your diaphragm to your singing to ensure one's proper vocal placement with a neutral larynx. The most desirable placement is around your cheeks, meaning it should be the place that vibrates when you sing. Keeping the correct amount of airflow in and out of your vocal chords is essential to creating healthy and full notes as well as prolonging a vocal chord's health. "When we support, we want to pressurize the air beneath the glottis, the part of the larynx that contains the vocal folds, so that it will naturally (literally, by nature) move out of our bodies through those same vocal folds to the less pressurized atmospheric air (atmospheric pressure is 1 atm) and be transformed into sound." (Terrance) If you do not engage your diaphragm, it is very likely that you will have develop tenseness in the throat and shoulders because you are hitting notes with either too much or less air than necessary. Well why does not supporting cause tension in the throat? Because when you support, airflow is supposed to pass through your throat, and your throat isn't active at all. The sound is coming all from your core area, never from your throat. You, of course are going to tell me that stylistic singers cannot have proper support because in Siyeon's case, she is a rock singer and they usually strain their voices. Yes, and no... Well it depends. Wheein and Hwasa are both heavily stylistic singers (Hwasa likes to add a forced raspiness effect to her voice) but she still maintains one of the best techniques in the kpop industry and all that is because she resonants almost every single note of her range. If not resonant, she is still supported. Same could be said for Wheein. Not to mention, both of their supported range is wide. Vocal range is different from supported range, because vocal range is like the notes you can hit. I just screamed an E5 at the top of my lungs, does that mean I am technically a good vocalist now? As crazy as it sounds, Insomnias will say yes. Different could be said for Siyeon, she is 100% a singer and only 50% a vocalist. As a vocalist, she has little/shallow support and a small supported range followed by a big vocal range. She can hit notes, but not with the technical efficiency. On the other hand, as a singer she is 100% because singing is about delivering emotions to the audience with great artistic choices so it wouldn't be wrong of me to say that she was born to be a singer. However, a vocalist is someone who stays to the techniques, and she is only 50% good at technique in all honesty. Being able to support is not the only factor, but its the biggest so if she can't support she already lost half of the basics to be a vocalist. Since Insomnia's are very defensive about their favs and can barely swallow up facts, I will try my best to list out her strengths besides technique so keep in mind that I am not bashing Siyeon in any way, I am merely stating the facts. Furthermore, Siyeon is my favorite singer in the Korean industry, I love her timbre the most. On any day, I prefer listening to her over Wendy, Taeyeon etc... but that doesn't make her one of the best vocalists in the industry. I know I shouldn't judge Siyeon solely based on a video so I checked many other videos of her singing than just this, but in all of them her high notes are strained and I will show you an example. Listen to Siyeon's "I won't just LAY me down and die" kzbin.info/www/bejne/qoCli52GqqZ-g7M Listen to Wheein and Solar's sing off kzbin.info/www/bejne/j3vJdGVpj7-dhNk Wheein sounds much more open, thick, relaxed, projected right? If you watched till Solar's part, her voice had much more depth too. However, Siyeon, on the other hand sounds very thin, strained when compared to Wheein and Solar, it's not something only a vocal teacher can notice, I'm probably sure you hear it too. If you think I grabbed the part where she strained just to show you, no. All her other high notes are strained in this too and if you want evidence just compare every part of her's to Wheein's performance throughout. It's not because of Siyeon's vocal timbre she sounds like this, it's because of not enough support. If you're gonna tell me those two are different notes, hell no you don't even have any musical knowledge then. In conclusion, as funny as it can get, Siyeon and Yoohyeon are closest to Moonbyul's level when compared to MMM. Even though they're DC's best singers they are closer to Moonbyul's level than they are to Hwasa's, and if you need more evidence followed by proof from me I'll try to keep up. Of course, Yoohyeon's better than MB in a stylistic level but comparable on a technical level, but Siyeon is deadass below Moonbyul's level. MB and Siyeon both have different strengths. MB knows how to support her notes but the range is limited, and she doesn't have much grasp on dynamics and control. On the other hand, Siyeon has close to zero support but has the best grasps on vocal dynamics and tone versatility than anyone I've seen in 3rd generation. Furthermore, her musicality and melisma are actually pretty decent compared to other kpop vocalists, she definitely knows how to make music more interesting. Siyeon's strength is what makes her stand out from most singers, she is one of the best at that and knows her voice very well. However, this video is old so I don't think many can see my comment, peace out. Yes, I really did write an entire novel on this, but that's because I'm a writer and I love writing, please don't personally attack me for this. I love both DC and MMM, they're my ultimate groups.
