Do you prefer to photograph wide angle or telephoto/zoomed in?
@sorenwurch87495 жыл бұрын
A combination of wide until tele. It depends on the scene as you already said in the video.

@@sorenwurch8749 I used to shoot as wide as possible, but I often find I am naturally thinking of compositions within the telephoto range these days

Both 12-24 F4 & 70-200 F4, saving $ to replace the 70-200 with a 100-400 as I find myself cropping the tele range frequently. Thanks for your videos, Banff is a must visit on my bucklist!

@@erichanson7429 Yes it's amazing how often I wish I had a bit more reach with my 70-200 :). You've got quite a gap between 24 and 70 (hey, there's a lens for that!) and you're going to make it even larger once you get the 100. Do you think you'll have issues not covering that gap?
@erichanson74295 жыл бұрын
Kaitlyn McLachlan I have 35, 50 & 85 primes when needed, but I tend to see either super wide or picking details at 200mm+ range. I expect that will change down the road but I’m having fun hanging out in the extreme perspectives.

Thanks Markus! How are you liking the Osmo Pocket? I've been tempted to pick one up for myself!
@MarkusSenior5 жыл бұрын
Kaitlyn, I really like the Osmo Pocket. I have had it since early December and played also around with some of its accessories. The wifi module is pretty cool as it allows you to place the pocket on something or mount it with a mount to a tripod, use your phone to select yourself and voila, you have a magical camera operator that follows you whatever you do. I just got today their USB-C to 3.5mm adapter and I am very excited to try it out with my Rode VideoMicro…. as sometimes, especially with wind, the pocket had some issues… but you can hear it for yourself. I used most of the time the Pocket also for sound recording in the few videos that I posted so far. I think the Osmo Pocket could be a great tool for you, especially when you travel. It is so small and can easily fit in your camera bag without adding much weight. - Cheer on from LA :-)

Can we See the panorama somewhere?

I think that I have said this before when you were in New Zealand but I do like the way that you present and explain your Technic. I can see on the video that Banff is a beautiful place and I am looking forward to visiting it next year. Well done.

Thanks again Graham - really appreciate the positive feedback! Sometimes it's hard to multitask me actually shooting, videoing what I'm doing, AND explaining it... but I'm trying! :). You'll absolutely love Banff - when are you headed there?

this is cool but why doesn't anyone explain the exact physics of this compression :( ??
@TheDanBennett5 жыл бұрын
Compression comes form distance to subject, has nothing to do with focal length of the lens. If you shoot at the same distance to subject with a 16mm and a 400mm, and then you zoom or blow up the 16mm photo to match the sizing of objects in the 400mm photo, you will have identical composition and compression. It is only when you change how close you are standing to an object that you get compression.
@KaitlynMcLachlanPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct and maybe that wasn't explained quite clearly enough. However, although technically 16 and 400 are "equivalent" at a given distance, obviously nobody is shooting with a wide/standard so far away and cropping in. It's not as much about having 100 megapixel sensor, the glass simply wouldn't resolve that detail (probably not even good enough for Instagram! 😂). In essence, though not a requirement, the longer focal lengths are what are going to be used to get that compression.

You… handheld an 8-image panorama with a 400mm lens? We are not worthy. 🙇♂️
@KaitlynMcLachlanPhotography5 жыл бұрын
Haha it wasn't too bad! I did have to make a bit of compromises on ISO and aperture, but I don't think it meaningfully affected image quality or depth of field - especially since as I did the vertical panorama, I left autofocus on so it also inherently added a bit of focus stacking. Would love to take my time, set it up on a tripod, long shutter delay to avoid movement, but on a roadway that's not always an option :)

@@KaitlynMcLachlanPhotography Yeah, makes sense. I’m still impressed, though. Sorry. 🤷♂️

Not sure I follow - why do you think so? There was virtually no movement in the scene, and minimal clouds
