Every rider deserves to have an instructor like Simon. What a brilliant person he is.

You've really developed your seat compared to older videos. Well done on pulling Affie & yourself through a rough patch. You both look wonderful! Simon has so much patience & diplomacy. "Bend the elbows, eyes up, use the leg" (instead of lunge) was the litany for your lesson. Affie goes beautifully as soon as you remember the litany. Talking to yourself aloud (coaching yourself) like you did at one point ("..eyes up..") really helps. Best wishes for the future!

I love how much you care about your horse and how she feels about things, that says a lot about an owner.

Wow Hannah, 90! You must so pleased. I loved how you were both enjoying it. Simon is my favourite instructor (together with Lucinda) for many reasons. He’s confidence giving, encourages relaxation & he’s chill. He’s totally professional & has a lovely attitude.

Han, thank you for sharing your experience. As a fellow equestrian that gets nervous jumping bigger, this has been so helpful. You are a stunning rider.

I’m the same way as you; I get nervous as the fences get bigger! But having a confidence inspiring instructor like Simon is SO helpful!!

Wonderful pair! I’ve always thought that Affie has a lovely jump, lots of scope and shes smart, wants to keep the jumps up. Youre looking great together!

Great job! Your riding improved more and more as the lesson progressed, and I think that’s largely due to your confidence growing as you and your lovely pony accomplished more and more. Simon is a fantastic instructor, and if I lived in England, I would absolutely train with him full time. He is so patient and instills so much confidence into the rider. I’ve now seen him give all of you SJ lessons (what I ride here in the U.S.), the other girls having had multiple lessons with him in the past. I am very impressed with the way he tailors his exercises to the individual horse/rider pair, his calm and patient (and easy to understand) instruction, and just his general demeanor. I’ve had instructors who were very harsh and mean, and I don’t do well with that type of instruction. It just makes me more anxious, whereas just hearing Simon teach relaxes me. If he ever travels “across the pond” to do clinics, I know of many riders who would be interested in paying top dollar for an eventing clinic or even just a SJ clinic with him. So please pass that on to him. 😊 Back to you; quite impressed with your progress! How good does it feel when you overcome your fears and insecurities, and end up succeeding in accomplishing something outside your comfort zone, such as jumping larger jumps? I’ve got my own fears and insecurities, so I can relate to you. I also know the absolute joy and sense of accomplishment when my trainer pushes me out of my comfort zone and I push through my nerves and absolutely smash it! SUCH a confidence builder! I can’t wait to see your Broadway eventing vlog. I hope you can take away the advice Simon gave you in your cross country and show jumping lessons, and apply it to your event. Good luck! With ❤ from the U.S. 🇺🇸

Well done Hannah, you both did well. That last jump was really big and I think you need to have far more confidence in yourself than you do because Affie and yourself jumped it with ease. I can remember Meg having an SJ lesson and being told to look ahead to the next jump as soon as she's landed and I think that's what Simon was saying to you. I noticed Meg started to do that and things improved. Simon is a brilliant teacher and I'm sure this will make a huge difference to you in competition 🙂

I love watching your partnership and there is no better way to describe it other than being true partners. It almost feels like because you have stuck with her regardless through her trying times, she’s grown up and decided to give you her everything. I just love how she was previously a hot and difficult pony at times, to holding your hand and giving you confidence. Defied all expectations, you two 💗🎉🎉

Sounds like a lovely fragrance, Han. Have loved watching your journey with Affie. I know that this is probably easier said than done, but when you remember to breathe (in through the nose and out through the mouth) and you will find that Affie will respond to you doing this and will enable her to relax too. Great job Affie and Han. 😊

The way you get Affie to settle into her job is so satisfying to watch. Going over the boards on the right rein she looks like a different horse entirely from how she started! I also have a fizzy half-arabian mare, and for me it’s always half the battle to get her focused on the task at hand instead of giving maximum effort in no particular direction. 😂

When you play this back really watch your hands and elbows! Hear Simon’s words over & over in your head…”soften your elbows” “bend your elbows”. This prevents you from hitting her in the mouth every time you rise.
