SJCam SJ8 Pro vs. Firefly 8SE - Real 4K Action Cam SHOWDOWN

I think they're both great values but with the video side by side it can help you decide which one will work best for you! This was originally going to be posted for #SideBySideSunday but then I got sick so that delayed it a few days.
Hopefully this footage helps you decide which cam works best for you. Both are fairly solid, if not without their flaws. If you have the extra to spend I do recommend stepping up to the SJ8 Pro, but if you cannot spend that much the 8SE is a great cam too!

Between Firefly 8SE 170 degree vs 90 degree lens, which one is better ?

170° causes fisheye, but 90° is not enough for an action cam.

I have 90 degree lens.Get rid of anything larger if you do not like fish eye effect.

The touchscreen on the sjcam can be used underwater...You just have to use the waterproof touch sensitive cover instead of the other one that's on it stock.

Yeah you can use it with a touch back (same on Firefly) however any wet touch screen doesn't work very well :)

Is this video blurry and pixelated because of KZbin or my wireless connection or what? Because neither video from either camera seemed to be HD, to me, anyway. I think my wifi connection is too slow or my computer's video graphics card is slow.

I have now switched to the GoPro Hero 7 Black....My SJCAM SJ8 Pro broke within a couple of months of using it (shut off and wouldn't turn on at all). SJCAM told me to contact the seller which I did who offered to send me a new one...it never arrived. They supposedly sent a second (from Malaysia again) it never arrived again. Then the seller said they would refund me...never happened despite repeated promises. I contacted SJCAM to tell them I wanted to get a replacement and sent them video of the malfunction (like I did to the seller). They erased my help ticket like it never existed...I haven't heard back from them...I'm done with SJCAM...which is sad because I like the SJ7 STAR for cockpit audio when I fly. The only problem I've had with the two SJ7 STAR cameras is that the micro usb port has broken off in both cameras (I superglued a micro usb to usb cable on the second one before it totally broke off so I could keep using it in the plane while charging it at the same time with a USB power supply). The first SJ7 would not record sound after the micro usb port broke (while using the plug in official SJCAM microphone. The GoPro Hero 7 surpasses everything...that's all I'm saying..the only problem is that it's never going to be as cheap as SJCAM. I did all of my video reviewing with the SJ7 and SJ8 but they will be retired soon with GoPro cameras. The hypersmooth technology is what sold me and it is great. I do not have room in the plane to have a gyro. UPDATE: The second help desk ticket was taken down without answer as well...DO NOT BUY SJCAM....or should we leave the J silent and call it SCAM?

They're pretty similar in terms of detail, just go for the wide FOV because 90 is significantly more narrow

The SJcam SJ8 is a great budget action cam with it's 20mp Sony image sensor, but there are many cheap fakes out there that have no image quality whatsoever.

I'm looking into buying an SJ8 Pro, I did hear many had freezing issues. Are you experiencing this after the FW updates?

I had the cam freeze twice on me, I think the memory card I used was too slow. I didn't have issues after that (when I used Samsung U3 128GB)

to me there is no comparison, the hawkeye cannot have gyro and distortion correction at the same time making it useless imo

I'm using SJ8 Pro and using Distortion ON and GYRO ON is usable

Did you experience overheating in both cams while filming at 4k? Also does firefly have regular firmware updates like sj cam?

I didn't have issues with overheating on either camera. 8SE has decent firmware support from Hawkeye, most recent FW was on Jan 7/19 for example. I find it harder to give suggestions to their support than SJCam in terms of language comprehension but when they do understand they are faster to issue a fix.
