The data-type in a programming language is the collection of data with values having fixed meaning as well as characteristics. Some of them are an integer, floating point, character, etc. Usually, programming languages specify the range values for given data-type.

Primary(Built-in) Data Types: void, int, char, double and float.
Derived Data Types: Array, References, and Pointers.
User Defined Data Types: Structure, Union, and Enumeration.
Variable :
A variable is nothing but a name given to a storage area that our programs can manipulate. Each variable in C has a specific type, which determines the size and layout of the variable's memory; the range of values that can be stored within that memory; and the set of operations that can be applied to the variable.
eg:
int i, j, k; -----------i, j, k are variables
char c, ch; ------------c, ch are variables
float f, salary; ------------f, salary are variables
double d; ------------d is a variable
