Small correction; I was confused when you said it's a QLC SSD as I was certain it's TLC. After some quick research I found it is in fact TLC but it uses SK Hynix's new "4D NAND" which is basically a fancy name for their new flash which stacks the NAND cells over the periphery circuitry, thus making room for more storage.

Which is even more confusing because Micron/Intel have already been doing that and just call it 3D NAND lol

Just popped a 1TB P31 in my 2020 LG Gram. The LG Gram is very thin and I wanted to minimise heat generation from an additional SSD so chose the P31 for the low power consumption. It runs 3 or 4 deg C than the one installed by LG. The only downside of the P31 is that it disables battery charging under Windows 10. This issue has been noted by other LG Gram owners. The only way to charge the Gram with a P31 installed is to exit Windows 10 by completely shutting it down. If you run it on battery you will get no warning that it has run out of power as the P31 also stops all communication of the battery status.

Interesting, a bit different take on it from Anandtech where they absolutely loved it. Heard of any innovations for NVMe in how they handle drives or such related to the innovations with Sony or MS direct storage? One I heard of was zoned storage, but that's the only new thing.

I've spent far too much time trying to get real world performance data on SSDs and find it all really frustrating. People like me that don't have productivity use cases but still want real world data to make an intelligent buying decision are kind of just given the advice to "buy a 980 Pro bruh". Differences in benchmarking load times for games, boot time in windows, steam game verification times, 7z/WinRAR decompression are inconsistent from one review to the next even on the same website let alone from one reviewer to the next. Even transfer speeds for files of various sizes in a realistic copy paste scenario are difficult to figure out with other people's benchmarks. You listen to this review and it's really luke warm, and you look at other reviews and the p31 gold looks like a beast. I have no idea what to believe.

I tried this 2 years ago with their regular SSD, two weeks later it crapped out in spectacular fashion. But that was unfortunately due to a USB expansion card that pulled just a little bit too much power through a power splitter that caused the SSD to fry itself. This time I am using an m.2 NVME SSD instead, when I do a full computer rebuild.

I have searched the internet and I cannot find any other current source who is writing 250+ TB to SSDs to test their true endurance. You're the only person I've seen do this test, and then you compare it to only 2 drives and give no details using words like "not great" "okay" does not instill confidence. performance degradation is goddamn important and you're just teasing us with vague details. Storagereview doesn't even do it. Please compare with more drives or don't do it at all. compare them after trying to kill them with hundreds of terabytes The last evaluation on this subject was done 5 years ago. things have changed a lot since then haven't they? I don't know because no one's doing it.

Right now for Black Friday 2020, this drive is going for $114.74 on Amazon, cheaper than the Adata SX8200 Pro which is discounted to $119.99. It's definitely a new challenger against the SX8200 Pro for cheapest high end pcie 3.0 ssd. I'd really want to pick one of these up if I didn't have 2 SX8200 Pros already. If you're weighing between the two, I had one of my SX 8200s die after 8 months and RMA wasn't pleasant, Adata sent me a SX8100 in return and I had to pay shipping to send it back.

@@digitaltactics9234 I wouldn't be surprised if Adata came up with 2 new versions since my original comment at this point now. I could tell that the drive I bought in July 2019 and then December 2019 were different but still had decent performance close to the L1T review video. Then, I ordered another one late 2020 that felt like it was the 3rd gen of the drive with significant performance decrease out of the box. Would advise to avoid Adata right now.

@@Ming-Chan WD_Black SN850 not detected by BIOS on bootup from power-off problems so many are having. On that drive & on the 980 pro losing speed after tow months. Seems like we are all beta testers on the new 4.0 drives & still many of the 3.0 drives. Was looking at this Hynix drive that wendel is reviewing but seems like it might ware out like many of the TLC drives but on tweaktown it looks great in specs but they do not test drives like he dose as in how long before they degrade. Have older system that has a old MLC pro 840 drive health has not moved. Makes me think that my choice of a 970 pro MLC drive might be worth the money indeed. To avoid all the headaches on the 4.0 TLC QLC drives seems to have & some of the 3.0 drives have too ha. Feels weird to want the 3.0 drive more than the new tech is so unstable. The 970 pro dose not run hot & dose not slow down like all theses new drives coping or installing files. Maybe that is why so many say all you really need is a regular ssd. But when you have a 3950x on the shelf from not working since the pandemic hits & you finally get to build your new system you want it to just be stable. Long rant but i am sure you get it. Sucks you can't even get all the fact's on these drives.
