I agree with Scott Mantz about Andy Serkis as Caesar, he should get nominated and performance capture doesn't need to be a separate category. The visual effects artists from Weta Digital just added a digital costume onto Andy Serkis' performance.
@TheMovieTriviaSchmoedown10 жыл бұрын
kakarot134 Agreed
@ArtofBrentMinehan10 жыл бұрын
I know it sounds good but its not that simple.
@Kal-El_13810 жыл бұрын
Uberslick Why not?
@ArtofBrentMinehan10 жыл бұрын
kakarot134 Well I suppose he should get recognized for his incredible performance, but the thing is, its not just digital makeup. You can make the performance different or completely change it. Its not quite comparative to regular acting. If went and digitally altered someones face to make an eyebrow movement here and there, change the expression, make the eyes more menacing, create a little twitch in the muscles to emphasize a particular motion. All of which was not in the motion capture, but done as the animator then can you really compare that to other actors performances? This process was done throughout the film apes films and is done in many other motion capture characters to make the character more interesting and to essentially make the performance more believable or 'better'. Andy's part was fantastic and oscar worthy imo. But with that said with a whole team of animators on top of that changing it, is it right to compare him to other actors given whats seen on screen? I don't really think so. If so, should we only judge him on his performance capture and not on the overall presentation portrayed on the film? Well that also then puts Andy at a disadvantage. Its a different situation and its not as simple as digital costume, because once the actor is behind camera in live action, its all on them. Because of the nature of the situation, i think its too hard to make decisions on whether or not he should be going up for an award against other actors at this point. Then again with all that said, and i doubt you have read this far, I think he still needs to be recognized somehow. Its tricky. Then again, if you really dig deep into film awards the whole concept is a bit flawed so it doesn't matter that much. I think it would be great that he be recognized, but does an award justify it? Maybe. If he does get nominated though, - which if he does its stupid that it wont be lead - I will chear him on to win the award. Its just more complicated than people seem to perceive it.

Completely agree with Cobbster, YEAH I SAID IT. Kristian made a point of "well part 2 ended good" Yeah thats true and all but its THE WAY part 3 ended. Andy went to college, the toys went from sadly losing the owner that they did anything for... to the cycle being complete...finding a new owner with Andy waving goodbye. There is no want after that. Unless they make another 3 movies I don't want another 1 movie.... but at the same time what ending would be as satisfactory of concluding one of the greatest trilogies ever. Its the same thing as if they made a movie that took place after LOTR Return of the King." Frodo returns! "

Great show. I just wanted to point out that I seriously disagree with Jon Schnepp about Andy Serkis not deserving a nominated for Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. Andy Serkis acted his ass off as Cesar, and yes he has dots on his face so they could CGI his face to make it look like he's an ape but it's his facial expressions and his movements, and I think he should absolutely get nominated for Best Supporting Actor [which is category fraud but whatever] as motion capture deserves more respect. Opinions are opinions but that is one I strongly disagree with, as Andy Serkis gave one of best performances this year and he should be acknowledged.

yet another awesome episode, just wanted to mention that time travel movies should be in separate category, because asking what's the favorite sci-fi movie not including time travel element would provide better list than if time travel element is included(as soon as one time travel movie is mentioned it easily brings up ton of other time travel movies); granted, making time travel as a sub genre would require separating post apocalyptic, apocalyptic, science in space, science on Earth, robots, aliens, hopeful/hopeless ending/message and I think my comment is too long now :)

It would be nice to have more of the other Schmoes hosts as guests on the main show more often. At least one person every week even, if possible. jigyoda You must be trolling. "Dark City" [7.8 on imdb, Worldwide gross: $27,200,316 ] A man struggles with memories of his past, including a wife he cannot remember, in a nightmarish world with no sun and run by beings with telekinetic powers who seek the souls of humans. "The Matrix" [8.7 on imdb, Worldwide gross: $463,517,383] A computer hacker learns from mysterious rebels about the true nature of his reality and his role in the war against its controllers. EVEN IF some elements of the story are slightly similar you cannot disregard the overall impact "The Matrix" had on its genre. No movie is 100% original.

Serkis is so much more important to the Oscars than alot of ppl realize. Serkis (and team) brought the needed critical mass to bare. The big wigs at the Oscars realize that times are changing and have given Serkis a nod. The nomination is the Oscars acknowledging that the current categories dont properly reflect the modern movie landscape. The nomination is a way for the categories to maintain their integrity, yet apease the masses with the promises of changes to come. I believe the masses should pressure the Oscars to create a proper and legitimatecategory so that the "whole team", in the yet to be named category, get proper recognition. Trying to get Serkis into the current categories wont solve the bigger issue. With that said, I believe Serkis winning the nomination would also force their hand. Good luck either way man. :)
