Vtubers are certainly a niche, but some are also quite popular. During her subathon last year Ironmouse had, for about a week, the most subsrciptions on Twitch and still holds the #4 spot for the highest amount of subscriptions at one time.

Also worth noting that the top 100 most superchatted streamers on youtube has been at least 50% vtubers (mostly hololive and nijisanji) for years now. Then again, the highest youtube *subscriber count* among vtubers (held by Gawr Gura) is only around 4.3 million, which is only 3 times Skall's sub count. Definitely niche, but a remarkably succesful niche.

@Telleva Assuming your not making a joke I can tell you that this is just something people say to throw dirt at vtubers (people tend to do this to anything that gets popular). Many vtubers have been proven to be real women either by them doing face reveals or, sadly, being doxxed or in some other way. Examples are Kson, Veibae, Lumi, Calliope Mori, Kiara and Wolfychu. Others have been confirmed to be legit women by KZbinrs who knows them irl. We can also expect that most vtubers that work for actual agencies are women as otherwise the agencies could risk getting into trouble legally.

PewDiePie made a vtuber model for himself and once watched Gawr Gura and JackSepticEye is apparently pretty familiar with Ironmouse. And Vtubers are massive in Japan, especially Hololive. @Telleva I don't see why not knowning everything is an issue. Most actually act mostly like themselves. Their behaviour feels natural and some have even adressed this question and said there's a balance between the character is built around their actual personality. Or, at most, in the case of agencied they are selected because their personality matches the character. This makes sennse considering that playing a character several hours a day for years would be exhausting. Also it'd be hard to make it convincing without good acting classes. This way the talents me tal health is taken into consideration and they can actually form more of a relationship with their audiance. We see evidence of this because some of these individuals have their own channels seperate from the vtuber one and their behaviour isn't much different on it. Calli and Kson are examples of this and there's no difference between their vtuber personality and their normal self

Skall, your comment about the "sword community" made me realize something. I've been subbed to you since near your beginning. I'm certainly not a part of the community that you mentioned, and I want to make sure that you realize that you don't just tailor to that particular community. (I remember the period of time when you were still trying to figure out the YT algorithm, and how to gain and keep subscribers). I personally know extremely little about weaponized martial arts. I don't practice it, nor do I know much about actual techniques beyond common sense. I don't really like firearms (not in a politically dramatic way, necessarily... just don't have much interest in them, and do have SOME opinions regarding safety. Otherwise, "you do you," but safely and not hurting the innocent). And admittedly, despite my time being subscribed, I don't watch ALL your videos... not because of anything negative, except that I don't understand a lot of the martial arts aspects of them. (Videos like "sword techniques" only get about 50% virwership from me, since I don't really understand some of it). What you do that does appeal to me, and makes you appeal to more people than just the "sword community" is this: You give a ton of history and historical proof of things. This appeals to my interest in history and ancient handheld wesponry (brought on by playing video games in my present and youth). I like your analyses of weapons and explaining their use, design, (un)/practicality, etc. Especially the odd and unusual ones. You give a mini history lesson mixed with a review and engineering take on it all. I also love your reality checks of fantasy weapons. It breaks the fun of whatever the weapons come from, but it's fun to see how they'd hold up in reality, if you ignore magic, etc. ... and your mildly sarcastic humor is nice too. :) So, I hope I'm not the only subscriber who's not really in with sword martial arts, but is much more of a history lover and "cool, sharp blades go swoosh" person. EDIT: I'm also waaaay more into the VTuber rabbit hole than anything. Lol I was happy to have seen Ironmouse watch your video. She's very sweet and fun, and sometimes does those types of "watch alongs" of KZbin videos, where she doesn't really say much about them negatively/positively (ie, no political or personal opinionization), and just has fun browsing the internet. For this who aren't familiar with her, she has a rare genetic disorder that severely compromises her immune system. She's pretty much been forced to surround herself with the internet, KZbin, anime, etc. She became a VTuber with some of her online friends, as a way to escape her room and interact with people outside her confined space, and has become one, if not the most, loved, kindest, positive, and inspirational VTubers to ever exist. She's not exactly PG, but despite explicit language and innuendo, she's a very positive and nice person who only wants to befriend people.

This legitimately made my day. I've been a fan of Skall for many years now, and 2020 is when I learned about Vtubers & met Ironmouse thanks to "Noble" on the "Lost Pause" KZbin channel. I never expected this crossover & I loved it! Whether history, fantasy, sci fi, tabletop roleplaying, anime/manga, weeb, gaming, book, movie, shows, music, cars, (even sports fans obsessing over players & teams), etc, We are ALL Nerds about certain hobbies and interest, especially our favorites. And you know what? That is ok! Like what you like and let others do the same. Thank you Skall for not being an elitist, gatekeeper, close minded bully & the like, who sadly are all too common online. Variety and creativity is fun. Keeps things fresh and interesting! It is actually very liberating to see open mindedness among communities online. Your respect and fairness is why you are still one of my all time favorite KZbinrs out there.

I think you're mixing up words a bit, AI stands for Artificial Intelligence, VTuber, means Virtual KZbinr pretty much, but it's basically like having a custom filter that is face tracked, so it's a person.
