To back that up, the league has done a miserable job of marketing Jokic during his career. Now, part of that is Jokic's fault because he avoids the spotlight. But come on, you've got maybe the greatest 'underdog overcomes all odds and low expectations' stories in league history. And the league has done nothing with it. They should have made him the relatable superstar that models for average people than their hopes can be achieved. I think Jokic actually would have responded well to that kind of approach and embraced it.

Generally that's true, but to be fair today on NBA Today the discussion was much more along the lines of 'this MVP race is going to go back and forth all year' Nobody in the media really wants the MVP race to be a foregone conclusion the way it looked earlier in the year, so a lot of the SGA hype is to keep fans interested and debating about the MVP.
@McWhatevs9 күн бұрын
This is going to sound like a stupid question coming from a guy who watches (some) YT basketball content, but what's the story behind this? Is it because he's white, not American, is humble?
@shorewall9 күн бұрын
@@McWhatevs All of that. Each one. SGA is humble too, he is foreign-ish, but he is black. Embiid is up his own ass, which the media loves, and black, but he is foreign. Giannis is foreign, humble, and black. Luka is foreign, white, and cocky. Ideally they want someone who is American, black, and cocky, which we saw when they wanted to push ANT before he was ready. I also think they want to move it around. They gave Charles Barkley and Karl Malone the MVP from MJ fatigue, and that is considering that MJ retired for two years as well. The writers just don't want to keep giving it to one player. But MJ was the best player in the 90s, no matter who won MVP, and Joker is the best player of the 2020s, no matter who wins the MVP. They only diminish the value of the MVP by giving it to the wrong person.

The amount of threes attempted even when in transition was boring and looked lazy, the basket paint? was free! the NBA had the perfect storyline, a no. 41 draft pick who nobody really paid much attention to - who went to become 3 times MVP and 1 time NBA champion so far, putting up stats which are ridiculous even in today's inflated stats era and who truly elevates his teammates. unfortunately, he's had mediocre support from his management to build a good team around him, and he seems not to appreciate the spotlight a lot... and he's european so he doesn't fit the media narratives - though zero disrespect towards shai, he's been a monster.

Jokic's conventional and advanced numbers overall are flat out better than SGA's. His impact as measured by plus minus and on off measurements are clearly superior--in fact it's not really that close. So if you go by facts Jokic should be the clear MVP leader. He's not only a better player than SGA but more valuable also. Not taking away from SGA's season. He's playing great and OKC is killing it, but Jokic is having maybe the greatest offensive season in league history. SGA is helped by the narrative of the new guy on an up and coming team, and also by voter fatigue. But those factors shouldn't outweigh the facts.

If the nuggets somehow get a good player for the 4 or 5 before the deadline, they definitely are contenders for another ring in my opinion.
@skap_attack10 күн бұрын
They realistically need some perimeter defender who can shoot threes in a near 40% clip. If they can find that in one person, they can be a viable threat--AS LONG as Jamal Murray sticks to the diet and doesn't get hurt.

He is so clearly the MVP and whoever says it’s close does not watch Nikola Jokic play. The media went into a frenzy when SGA dropped 54, when Jokic put up 56 earlier this season, it was just “Jokic doing Jokic things” - they will say the same for this historical game too. It’s pathetic. If you were to show Jokics season stats this year, compared to every other legends best season in a blind draft, Jokic would be taken number 1 every single time. NBA media and bias is a joke.

Newest analyst narrative: Is Jokic doing this out of necessity, because his team really needs it? Lol they'll just come up with any bs.

Shai is amazing. I honestly think he is. But yeah, Jokic right now is a couple leagues ahead everybody else. Not even remotely close. I already thought Jokic is the best player in the world before, but I did think there was still at least some possibility of talk with guys like Luka or Giannis (not naming SGA because this was before this season)... right now, I feel like Jokic is running completely alone. Giannis, Shai and Luka (although injured this season) are amazing talents, superstars and players that should be at the very top of the game... but Jokic right now is making us redefine what "top of the game" is. Outstanding Joker, what can I say.

Normally, I wouldn’t say this because historically, statements like these often predicate future disaster but I have to say it at this point: Jokic is officially writing the first chapter of his GOAT claim. He’s playing like a Bird-Magic hybrid while in a Shaq-like body and it doesn’t look like he’s even halfway into his prime yet. Please, basketball gods, let him realize his full potential in the NBA so we can actually add some substance to the GOAT debate.
@JJFX-8 күн бұрын
He's easily edging in on the greatest center of all time. In order to truly take aim at the greatest player this team needs to fill their championship trophy cabinet. That's a tall order for the cards he has been dealt, especially considering the league clearly doesn't want that to happen. That said, it's certainly possible and if he pulls it off with this roster it would be very hard to argue with.
